Thirty-Four

I woke up the next morning with the sunlight filtering through my curtains. This time though, I woke up laying somewhat on top of my fiancé. To think, almost two months ago I was waking up to go to the concert I had been dreaming of since December. Now I’m back in Orlando, my old home, with the man that changed my entire life.
“Morning,” Alex greeted me as he sat up, making me sit up.
“Morning,” I replied. Before I could kiss him, I felt the urge to vomit and ran for the bathroom. I got down on my knees in front of the toilet as my stomach emptied again. I had hoped I was getting over this entire morning sickness thing, but I jinxed myself.
“Easy does it,” Alex cooed as he rubbed my back.
“I swear my mom is a saint if she could withstand all of this,” I whined as I spat more of my stomach acid out of my mouth.
“It’ll pass eventually. You’ll see,” Alex said as he helped me stand so I could brush my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth.
“I hope so,” I sighed once I finished rinsing out my toothpaste.
“So what do you want to do today,” Alex asked as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders.
“Pack up what’s left here of my things and get it shipped out to Baltimore. I think I’ll take you out for a walk out at Downtown Disney by the waterfront. I’m not too into the idea of doing a lot here. Maybe take you to dinner,” I told him.
“That’s fine by me,” Alex agreed.
Alex and I were waiting now to board our flight to Michigan. Jack and Nyssa had left early from the apartment to go see Nyssa’s family today so we didn’t get to see them before we’d leave. I was kind of nervous about seeing my brothers. I was now not only pregnant like I had planned on telling them, but now I’m engaged as well to my hero. I could not be more thrilled.
“Everything’s going to be fine, Bonnie,” Alex told me.
“If one of my brothers threatens to beat the shit out of you for knocking me up, I’m killing them,” I told him.
“I can fight my own battles, babe,” Alex chuckled lightly at my promise.
“Still, I think Travis will disapprove of you. He’s the most uptight of my brothers,” I told him.
“I can handle it. Once he has a beer or two with me, he’ll be like puty,” Alex boasted.
“Doubtful,” I rolled my eyes and smiled.

Once Bonnie and I got to board the plane, I made sure she was comfortable. I noticed that Bonnie was a little nervous about flying again. This time though, we were in first class and together so I can keep her relaxed.
During the flight, Bonnie fell asleep since her crazy mood swings were draining her energy. She held onto my hand and her head was against my shoulder. I rested my head on hers, smiling content that my fiancée was sound asleep while we were up in the air.
“Girlfriend,” an older man asked me, noticing how Bonnie was leaning on me.
“Fiancée,” I corrected him.
“When did you pop that big question,” he asked politely.
“Yesterday, we’re going to tell her family about all of our news,” I told him.
“There’s more,” he asked curiously.
“We’re expecting our first baby,” I told him.
“Well congrats. I remember when my wife and I were like you and your lovely lady. Once you start chasing a little tyke around, you’ll miss the little things you got to do when you were young,” he commented.
“I know that everything will change for us. But I’m ready for it,” I told him.
“I can tell. The gleam in your eye is like what I’ve seen in myself before when I’ve thought about my wife,” he told me, “You two act like soul mates, with the way she clings to you and can sleep so soundly.”
“She and I have been through a lot,” I told him.
“Oh, how so? I’m not trying to pry but I’m intrigued,” he asked.
“She and I have anxiety and we’ve had attacks in front of each other. But we’ve help bring each other out and I stopped her from having an attack. Since then, we’ve been able to maintain a sense of normalcy since,” I told him.
“Well she is very lucky to have you. I think you’re lucky too, to have found a girl that can be so strong when she has issues herself,” he replied.
“Thank you,” I smiled kindly to him, flattered by what he said about me and Bonnie.

“I’m starving,” I complained as we got our luggage before heading out to pick up our rental car to drive out to my parents’ house in New Baltimore where we were going to stay for the couple of nights we’d be here to share the great news that has stacked up since Chicago.
“I’m surprised you aren’t tired or nervous,” Alex smirked.
“Well, I’m more hungry than either of those,” I told him.
“Alright, come on let’s get going. I don’t want to be out when it gets really dark since I have no idea on where I’m going up here,” Alex said as he led me out to where we were picking up the car.
“That’s why I’m here, Lex. I’m the one that grew up here and since we are going to visit my family and all,” I replied with a smirk.
“So that’s why I keep you around? Good to know,” Alex joked. I punched him in the arm.
Once we hit the road I had the easy job of navigating him along the expressways. I watched town after town pass us. Before long the sides of the express opened into more open spaces and woodsy as we got further out of the cities. I was pretty excited to be home again. I hadn’t been in New Baltimore since Christmas and I actually missed it. Especially the snow. But since I was going to be living in Baltimore with Alex, I’d get to enjoy the snow again, not that I really loved it before. I just missed the idea of watching it fall gently.
“You know, even though I have bitter memories of life up here, I have lots of good ones here I miss when I’m down in Florida,” I told him as I watched the trees fly past us.
“Such as,” Alex asked, wanting to know more.
“Four wheeling in my parents’ backyard was fun. Watching the snow fall from my bedroom window was another great memory I had. I miss swimming in fresh water and the idea of riding out on my dad’s sailboat out on the lake each summer for a nice day trip to enjoy the weather and the nice water,” I told him.
“Maybe I can hook us up with a rental boat while we’re in Baltimore. I know the ocean isn’t like the lakes here, but we can make memories of our own too on the water. Plus we can have loads of fun in the snow in Baltimore too,” he replied.
“I know. I’m excited to have those moments and make memories like what I have here with you and our little munchkin,” I told him as I rubbed my still flat tummy.
I seriously can’t wait to be a mom. I can’t even wait to be Alex’s wife either to be honest. I’ve never been this happy in my life and I hope my family will be happy for me. I can’t imagine raising my baby with it only being me and Alex with support from Jack, Nyssa, Alex’s parents, and the rest of the All Time Low family.
