Taking Chances

Why Meddle?

Jason POV

There was an unofficial band meeting for everybody but Alex and Nelly because this involved them. “They are so cute together! We should get them together.” Martin said to everybody but was mainly talking to me, because if anybody had the chance to convince Nelly to reveal her true feeling for Alex to anyone it would be me. Nelly and I had been best friends since third grade when she shared her lunch with me when I accidently forgot mines at home. We did everything together and were joined at the hip, which we still are. We even got matching tattoos as our best friend thing; like how people had bracelets or necklaces we had tattoos.

Our tattoos were of 9 and 3/4 and a music note side by side, since we both liked Harry Potter and music. Her tattoo was on her right forearm while mine’s was on my shoulder blade. We wanted to keep guessing what it was if they happened to see the ink, but we never let anybody including the press know exactly what it was.

Back to the meeting, everybody nodded in agreement. “How am I supposed to do that? I say we let fate run its course.” I told everybody frowning slightly.

“Yeah, their well on their way. They’ve been out on a “date” the other day except neither wanted to admit it.” Jack said, air quoting ‘date’.

“I agree because if we meddle then they’ll be mad at us.” Astro said he’s been quiet the whole half hour we were discussing the two. It’s nice to hear the opinion of him, every once and a while.

“But what if they don’t get together?” Rian asked, trying to cover all angles.

“Then we meddle.” Zack said finding a middle ground to all of this.

We all nodded, “Agreed!” We said before we all left to do our own thing and to keep an eye out on Alex and Nelly, to check progress.

Astro POV

I didn’t understand why they don’t let nature run its course and decide whether Nelly and Alex were meant to be. I mean it took its course with Angela and me and look where that ended up. She’s dead, and I’m blaming myself for it, because the truth was it is my fault. If I wouldn’t have started the stupid argument, she would still be here and I would still have a fiancée.

I went to wake Nelly up when I said Alex exiting his room. “Alex!” I yelled to catch his attention. He looked surprised and confused as to who call him. He wouldn’t know it was my voice, still he rarely hears it.

“Hey dude.” He said walking back to me.

“Hey, we need to talk.” I told him, before grabbing his arm and pulling him back to his room.

“What’s up?” Alex asked me confused. I put on my intimidating face, that I used on all of Nelly’s ex’s. He backed away a little, which meant I had it on. “Did I do something wrong?” He asked his voice going lower.

I shook my head, “Nah, but if you hurt Nelly, so much as make her cry or storm over to any of her band’s house then you’ll have to answer to me. I don’t want her to be sad or for you and her to end up like my fiancée and I. Don’t make the same mistake I did.” I told Alex before walking past him to open the door so I could leave.

“Dude, Astro. I’m not going to hurt her purposely and if I do, all of you have the right to be the living shit out of me.” Alex told me a seriously look on his face.

I nodded, “We’re going to hold you to that.” I told him before leaving and going to Nelly’s room. “Nelly time to get up.” I told her, shaking her shoulder and pulling the blanket off of her. That made her get up and I laughed.

“What the hell, Astro?!” Nelly yelled at me, before getting up and going to the bathroom. I followed her and found her brushing her teeth, so I leaned against the doorway and watched her. “What?” Nelly asked with the toothbrush still in her mouth and looking at me frowning.

I shook my head, “Nothing, just thinking.” I told her.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Nelly asked as she rinsed her mouth out.

“Do you like Gaskarth?” I asked her, not bothering to beat around the bush.

She stood up straight and ducked her head down, but not before I caught the hint of a blush spread across her cheeks. “What!”

“Do. You. Like. Alex. Gaskarth?” I asked her pronouncing every word as a sentence.

She nodded, “Yeah, but he doesn’t like me.”

I scoffed; the boy was in love with her already. “Don’t be so sure of yourself.” I told her before leaving her alone to her thoughts. I joined the rest of the guys in the Halo competition that was going on, with Alex as the winner.
