Anything But Ordinary

"Jack!" I yelled with tears streaming down my face as I entered the house I lived in with my brother.

"Jack!" I yelled again as I slammed the door behind me. I wrapped my arms around myself and I walked into the living room to see he had company over. He stood up fast and approached me, wrapping his arms around me and escorting me away from his company.

"What happened?" Jack asked me quietly as he rubbed my back gently.

"It hurts," I said as tears fell fast and thick.

"What? What hurts? Tell me," he urged, looking scared for me. I lifted up my shirt so he could see the forming bruise on my belly. He took in a sharp breath and lowered my shirt.

"Who did it? Was it Stephen?" Jack asked. I nodded and shut my eyes tightly as I took a deep breath. Who was Stephen? My now ex boyfriend.

"I don't know if he meant it, Jack! It just happened!" I shrieked loudly.

"I told you he was no good! What happened?" Jack asked.

"He got mad because I said no to his proposal," I said, opening my eyes to look up into Jack's eyes.

"He proposed? And he got mad when you said no, so he hurt you? What an ass!" Jack practically yelled. I removed myself from his grip, and I walked over to the couch, and I sat down, looking over at Jack's guest. The pain was starting to ease a little bit, but the bruise would definitely be painful until it goes away. I wiped my tears away.

"Hi... I'm Alex.. Jack's band mate... I presume you're his sister?" Alex asked. I nodded.

"Yeah.. I'm Claire. It's nice to meet you.. sorry for the scene. I just..." I trailed off. Alex nodded. I knew I wouldn't remember his name, unless I met him like four more times.

"Can we talk tomorrow Lex? I need to take care of her," Jack said. I watched him leave, and Jack turned to me.

"Lex?" I asked with a forced smile. Jack shrugged.

"His nickname... now come. I want to make sure you're not bleeding internally," Jack said.

One hospital trip later, and I got the clear that I was fine. I was laying in bed, watching a movie when Jack entered my room with a bowl of soup.

"You okay?" He asked softly. I smiled and paused the movie. I sat up, and I winced a little, and I smiled at my brother.

"I'm okay. Glad I said no and ended the relationship... if I'm honest, it was a shitty relationship," I said. Jack nodded and thrust the bowl of soup forward carefully.

"I made some lentil soup... wasn't sure if you wanted any, so I brought you some anyway," he said. I took it gratefully, and he handed me a spoon.

"So, who's 'Lex'?" I asked Jack after eating a spoonful of the hot soup.

"Alex.. you met him earlier. He's in my band?" Jack asked me.

"Well you should know if he's in your band or not, Jack-O," I said I let the soup cool off. Jack just looked at me hopelessly until I laughed.

"I'm just kidding. Why haven't I met your band yet anyway? You've been together for years," I said. Jack shrugged.

"Do you want to? We're having a party for a friend next week, and I could get you a spot on the guest list," Jack suggested.

"There's a guest list!? Who is this guy? How fuckin' famous are you?" I asked. Jack chuckled.

"Pretty famous. So, do want in?" He asked.

"Is he hot?" I asked. Jack looked at me with his eyebrows raised.

"Yeah I want in!" I said, and he nodded and pulled his phone out of his pocket as he left my room. I then returned to my soup and my movie.

Let's see how well the party goes.
