If You Go Down, I Go Down With You.

Alex ran as fast as his chucks would carry him. Her window was in his sight, now if only he could make it over the damn fence without waking up the dog that slept soundly in her backyard. Slowly and carefully, his fingers linked with the chain. Occasionally, the metal would would make a tapping noise, but the dog never budged. He wouldn't be busted tonight. Smirking to himself, Alex darted for her window. It was already open, her pale purple curtains were saying in the breeze, and the light hum of her radio was dancing around his ears. He lifted his feet off the ground and literally through himself through the open space. The girl made a loud gasping noise, which was followed by laughter as he picked himself up off the ground. It was her fault he was in such a rush, afterall. She'd been teasing him for the last twenty minutes on the phone, leaving his teeange mind to wonder about what she was wearing, or her lack of clothing.

When he balanced himself out, he took a good look at the giggling girl in front of him. Her long, dark hair was curled - A wig that perfectly matched that of her old hair - and it fell loosely against her breasts. She was wearing a short night gown that completely showed off every curve she'd been blessed with, from her almost C-Cup to her beautiful bubble butt. Though her skin was pale and she was sickly thin, Alex found her to be the most beautiful girl on the face of the planet. He walked over to her, without saying a word, and crashed his lips down on hers. Sparks flew instantly, the young girl using her little big of strength to knock him over in the bed. Alex knew she didn't have much energy, so he rolled her over and took on the leading role. She was silently gasping under him, as his lips went from her own to her neck, leaving a trial down to her left breast, where he kissed tenderly with a few nibbles here and there. His hands trailed her sides, rubbing her inner thighs, inching closer and closer to the one spot she really wanted him to reach. In a matter of seconds, their clothes were shed and they left the cruel world around them, escaping into extacy and romance.

And you said it would be funny to keep me hanging in suspense, then I'd run over to your house and I'd scale the chain link fence that borders your backyard and then I'd climb through your window; and I'd whisper that I love you as you fall out of your clothes.

Isabella Barakat was out of breath and exhausted, but in the most peaceful way she'd felt in months. Alex helped the thin girl pick out another outfit to sleep in. Fuzzy pants and an over-sized tee-shirt. She smiled as he helped her weak body get into the clothes. He'd been so kind to her since he found out she was ridden with cancer. Unlike the other people in her life, he didn't see her any differently. He wasn't afraid that she'd be here one minute and gone the next, though he was mindful of her condition. His lover for never started to fade, and words couldn't describe how thankful she was for that. He was the only person left in the world that still made her feel youthful, young.. Healthy. If it weren't for him, she probably would have died already, but he was her strength.

Lately, however, Bella found herself feeling worse than she had only days ago. She knew it, and Alex knew just from looking at her, that she'd be called into the arms of death sooner than she'd hoped for. It made the fifteen-year-old literally sick to her stomach to think that her life could be snatched away at any given moment, but she also found comfort in the thought that she would no longer have to suffer. The thing that bothered her most about her cancer was knowing that she wouldn't be able to stay behind and comfort the broken hearts around her when the time came for her to go. Her soul would be released into the world, and where it would go, she didn't know.

Pushing the thought from her mind, Isabella found herself growing more weak and tired. She laid down in her bed and motioned for Alex to join her, which he did. He wrapped his strong arms around her tiny frame and pulled her body close to his. Something was different about Alex tonight. Perhaps, seeing her naked body made him more aware of her serious her condition was, but there was a looming sadness in the room. Bella tried to ignore it, wanting any moment she had with Alex to be a good one, because it might just be the last.

"I'm really glad you decided to come home," Alex nuzzled his head into her neck. "I know it would have been eaiser on you to stay at the hospital, but I'm too selfish to deny that I love these moments alone with you."

"The only thing I miss about that place is the medication, for the nights when it gets real bad," Bella admitted, linking her fingers with his own. "But there was no way I could have stayed in the place. I would have missed everyone too much. Especially you. They never would have allowed you to stay with me and I couldn't imagine trying to fall asleep without seeing your face before I close my eyes."

"You really are something special, Belle," Alex grinned, leaning up to gently kiss her cheek. "I know I tell you this all the time, but I really love you. Without you, I don't think I'd have a purpose in this life."

"Oh, hush, Alex," Bella laughed the best she could. Her lungs were feeling awfully heavy tonight. "You have plenty of purpose without me now, and you'll have even more when I'm gone. You're gonna be famous one day. You're gonna save lives with your words. You're gonna make the world a better place with your voice. It has been an honor to be the leading lady in your life. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that I, Isabella, get to die as the girlfriend of you, Alexander Gaskarth. Now please stop talking like I make the world go 'round, because honestly, it's you that keeps me standing firm. When I pass on, you're gonna be wonderful without me."

"I wouldn't go that far," Alex frowned, not wanting to hear about how he'd have to live on without her. "You're the girl of my dreams, Izzy. I absolutely adore you."

"I adore you, too," Bella smiled, humored that he was the only one who called her 'Izzy.' He really did make her feel better about her situation, but she noticed that as she smiled, pain coursed through her body. It was a feeling she'd never felt before, something she didn't understand, but she didn't want to worry Alex. Instead, she held her breath until the feeling passed, only now she couldn't get her breathing to even out. "I love you, Alex."

And we'd lay there in the darkness like the dream of you I had, where we captured all the fireflies and knew what time we had could be counted on our fingertips, that almost made you cry. You let me hold you tightly as we said all our goodbyes and.. May I say I loved you more?

Those four words were all it took for Alex to notice that something was wrong. It was almot as if Isabella had choked on something, because her chest was tight and she was weezing pretty loudly. He sat up, but the young girl curled back up against him, holding her hand to her chest.

"Izzy, don't do this, not now." Alex began to panic. He tried to get up, to call for help, but Bella was clinging to his arm, her eyes begging him not to leave her alone. Tears welled in his eyes. She was too fucking young to die. "Keep breathing, Bella," Alex began to cry harder. "Keep breathing. Just keep breathing."

And she did, for as long as she could. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, until suddenly, it didn't anymore. She let out an easy breath, her eyes not showing a sign of struggle anymore, and a soft smile on her face. Alex thought for a moment she was going to be okay, that he could go get help now and someone could fix the problem, but Bella's eyes slowly began to shut. Her mouth hung open lightly, from her gasps for air, but she appeared to be in a peaceful sleep. Alex shook her, once, twice, three times, but she didn't reply. Crying so hard the bed was shaking now, Alex laid back down beside the girl and held her tightly in his arms. She was still warm, so warm, but her heart was no longer beating.

"Jack!" Alex screamed, hugging the dead girl in his arms. "Jack!"

He heard the entire familiy get up and come running, so with his moment alone with the girl, he mumbled into the crook of her neck.

"I love you, Isabella Grace Barakat. I'm never going to be the same with you. You were it for me."

And it must have been an hour that I clutched you in my arms. And I must have said the right things because you instantly felt warm. And you heard my heart stop beating and you wanted not to cry, as your sympathetic whispers, they told a tale of bad goodbyes.

The days turned into weeks, the weeks turned into months, and still Alexander William was not the same. He missed her, so much, that he truthfully felt he couldn't go on living. Even Jack, her own brother, had managed to cope with her death far better than Alex had. After about two months, Jack had been able to return to band practice, but that was around the time when Alex quit giving a shit entirely. It didn't matter to him anymore; nothing mattered to him anymore. Without Isabella there to give him strength and remind him that he was worth something, Alex felt his life meant absolutely nothing.

It was a late afternoon in the Fall. The mulitcolored leaves were falling from the trees. Alex weakly stared out at the scene, wishing that Izzy was there to make a pile and jump in them with him. She'd always been so full of life. Fuck, did he miss her.

The young boy paced his bedroom, staring down at a bottle of painkillers he'd stolen from Bella's bedroom the night they carried her body away. It was the wrong thing to do, and he knew that, he just couldn't think of a better way to cope with his new loss. Beside the bottle of pills was a bottle of whiskey, which he'd stolen from his dad's liquor cabinet. It would be quick and it would only burn for a moment, now if he could just find the courage to swollow the pills.

Bitterly, Alex unscrewed the lid and let the pills fall onto his desk. They were so tempting to him, almost like a child with candy, but something inside of his heart told him to look out the window one last time before he laid down to take the last nap he'd ever take. The leaves, which were still falling in the breeze, now appeared to be stacked up. Alex rubbed his eyes, knowing that it couldn't be true, but that's when he saw her. Bella Barakat was standing in his yard, waving to him, healthy and happy. Her body still had weight, her flesh was a honey-brown color, and her hair was pulled up in a messy bun. It was actually her hair. Alex smiled, tears forming in his eyes. She blew him a kiss and took off running into the pile. She disappeared below the mess and the leaves went flying into the air. Alex took a moment to wipe his eyes before glancing out the window again, but as the colored spots were falling to the ground, he realized the pile didn't really exist, and Izzy wasn't really there. Bawling like he'd never done before, Alex knocked the pills off of his dresse and into the trashcan. He carried his frail body to the bed and curled up into a ball, releasing all the anger and sadness he'd had built up since the night Izzy passed, realizing that ending his life wouldn't solve his problems. She was free now, and he had to let her go.

And you swore you saw me laughing and I swore I saw you smile, and this time we've spent together is meant to last us quite a while. As I take this piece of you with me, I'll carry to my grave knowing that for someone you're an angel sent to save.

Alex and his friends stepped back on to the tour bus, having just put on one of the best shows of their lives. Happy - They were finally happy. It'd been a long, hard road to get to where they are. A lot of loss and a lot of tears were shed, but at last, they were making a name for themselves. People knew who they were, and just like Izzy had told Alex a few years ago before she did, he did save lives with his words. Alex was proud of himself, proud of his friends, especially Jack.

"Drink up!" Jack shoved a beer into Alex's hands, holding out his own for a toast. "To the good life!"

Alex chuckled, cracking open his beer and clanking it against Jack's. He repeated the words: To the good life! before the chugged nearly the entire can.

"And here's to knowing that we made it out okay," Alex held up his own, a crooked grin on his lips. "We're finally going to be okay."

Let's drink to memories we shared. Down one to all the hopes and cares. Here's two for being unaware that you're gone, because before too long, you'll be a memory.
