Don't Be Afraid

Jack let out a sigh and shoved the mask back on his head. He wasn't too happy that he was put on pig duty tonight, but the mask did fit his face pretty well and he was tall enough to scare most of the giddy girls who thought they were badass just for going into the house. Was Saw really that scary of a movie that it still sent chills down someone's spine?

Apparently, or Jack couldn't be adjusting the mask on his face.

When he heard the sound of footsteps drawing near, he knew it was time to put his game face on and get ready to make some hearts race. He, along with the two other people in this particular room, took their place in the shadows and waited for the new group to enter.
It had become routine for Jack now. Sure, he often changed rooms while at work, but it was all the same. But.. He couldn't complain too much. He got a kick out of watching girls scream and run away from him. Even the guys got freaked out sometimes, and if nothing more, he knows he's made some guys night because his girl is clinging to him like he's so brave.

Shaking the thought so he wouldn't laugh, Jack tightened his grip on the fake knife in his hand. At least it looked pretty real, but it was so small and weightless that he sometimes forgot he even had the prop. Leave it to Jack to find a way to get distracted doing such a simple job.

Finally, about ten people stepped into the room. The strobe lights started going off and the floors began to creak. Jack bit his lip to prevent laughter as the group smooshed closer together. He remained silent as his co-workers came out of the shadows and jumped out at people. Needless to say, those kids were running out of the room faster than Jack could blink, but now it was his turn. The girls in front of him shouldn't be too hard to scare. There were only about three of them, two of which were laughing and moving forward, though the last was lingering behind with fear in her eyes. He rose an eyebrow as his smirk grew.

Two seconds later, Jack jumped out with the knife above his head and made the last girl scream to the top of her lungs. He circled her a few times, watching as he side her face in her hands and let out a few more muffled screams. God, his job never gets old. It took a while for the girl to realize she was still in the room, alone with the 'monsters.' She sucked in a sharp breath and started running towards the door, pushing past his co-workers on her way out.

Now, typically, Jack liked to stick to his room. He didn't have to, as his job was to scare people, but mostly people would scream and shrug it off when the moment passed. This girl, however, she was different. Jack knew he could get a kick out of stalking her. He stayed silent as he followed her, going unnoticed, watching her carefully through the holes in his mask.

She managed to make it through the zombie hallway, though she did scream a lot, and catch up with her friends. He stayed behind a corner, knowing perfectly well no one could see him, and watched as the group started down the tight hallway. This was the one place Jack didn't like. The walls just kept getting smaller and smaller, and if you took a wrong turn, someone was there to greet you and give you a heart attack.

The girl stayed back.

Her friends were at the enterance of the hallway, telling her to come along, but she confessed that she was too scared to. Oh, this was too easy. After what appeared to be a short argument, the other two girls left their friend alone. Admittedly, Jack thought that was shitty, but at least it meant more fun for him.

Jack raised the knife above his head, once more, and took off toward the girl. It took her a moment to notice him, but once she did, she let out a blood-curling screaming. Her hands flew out and she started swinging her arms to keep him away.

"Why the fuck are you following me, dude?! I'm scared enough, back the fuck off!"

Still managing to keep himself from laughing, he circled her once more and lowered himself to her height. Her breath hitched in her throat, just by the sound of him breathing so close to her. Jack was having a blast, watching her panic, but he knew that he'd taken it too far when she took off through the hallway. Apparently he was ten times more scary than whatever was waiting for her in there. He let out a soft sigh and realized he needed to go after the girl. It really wasn't safe for her travel without her group, seeing as there were too many dead end and absolutely no light.

Jack pulled out his phone and used it to guide his way. He checked every dead end and explained to his co-workers what he was doing when they attempted to jump out at him. However, the girl was nowhere to be seen. But that didn't mean she wasn't to be heard.

When a scream echoed through the room, he knew it was her. Moving as quickly through the ever-shrinking walls, Jack finally found her curled up against a wall, just a few feet from the exit, with her head in her hands. Just from looking at her, he could tell she wasn't getting enough air and even noticed some tears on her face. Now he just felt guilty. Growling at himself, Jack shoved his phone back in his pocket and tugged off his mask. Someone needed to get this chick out of here.

"Oh God, not you again," the girl sobbed, moving away from him. "Are you some kind of sick freak? Why don't you leave me alone?"

"I'm not going to hurt you. Seriously, I work here, I can get you out so you don't have to go through the rest of the house."

"Just leave me alone, dude."

"Come on, let me help you."

Jack made the mistake of reaching out to grab her shoulder. It was apparent that she didn't like to be touched, because she turned around and smacked the piss out of him. A part of him wanted to say fuck it and leave her to fend for herself, but she had so much fear in her eyes.

"Ow," Jack murmurmed, using his free hand to rub his cheek. "Chill the fuck out."

"Leave me alone!"

"No, not until I can go back to work without thinking you've had a heart attack. Now, come on."

"Why would you want to help me?" She asked, desperately trying to yank her arm free from him. "Isn't it your job to scare me?"

"It is. But I've already done that."

Jack held back another laugh as he pulled the girl closer to his side. She stopped fighting him for the most part and let him guide her to an empty room. She could tell from the cool breeze around them that the door across the room would lead her to freedom.

"I wouldn't advise going out there right now," Jack offered a smile, letting the girl go. He tossed his mask on the table and let his fingers wrap around a small, white cup. "This is where we take breaks. Someone might come in but they're not going to try and scare you. But out there? Zombies, clowns and chainsaws are everywhere."

"So.. did you really come after me just to help me?"

"Well, yeah. I mean, I felt bad that I made you cry. The smack, however, was not cool."

"I'm sorry," she sighed, shaking her head as Jack offered her a cup of coffee. "I don't do scary well.. God, that's so embarrassing."

"Painful, maybe, but not embarrassing. I think it's pretty cool you were willing to come here knowing it'd scare the fuck out of you. Plus, most girls are annoying when they're scared.. But you're pretty cute."

"Cute?"

"More like adorable, I guess."

The girl buried her face in her hands and let out a small giggle. Jack couldn't help but smile as he took a sip from his coffee. He made a mental note to think her for being such a wuss later. Drinking coffee and being in a well lit room was a hell of a lot better than constantly roaming around under strobe lights.

"Thanks for getting me out of there. I'm Fran, by the way."

"I'm Jack and I swear I'm not as scary as I seem."

"Yeah, you know, you don't really fit the type to be working here."

"I'll take that as a compliment?" Jack chuckled, tossing his empty cup in the trash. "It's a pretty fun job, plus, being tall has its perks in a place like this."

"So.. How do I get out of here without pissing myself?"

"When your group gets out, the guys outside will scare them and then just chill out until the next group gets to the end. We'll be able to hear the chainsaws, when they stop, we'll be in the clear."

"We?"

"You don't seriously think I'm going to send you out there by yourself?"

"Don't you have to get back to work?"

Jack rose an eyebrow, considering his question. He probably should get back to scaring the shit out of people, but he'd have more fun if he didn't. Besides, they'd be fine without him. In order to answer her question, Jack simply shrugged and smiled.

It was at that moment that the chainsaws started up outside. Jack couldn't help but laugh as Fran's eyes grew wide and she cowered in fear. At least he can't say he didn't warn her.
"You're safe in here, don't worry. At the most, the guys will come in before we get to leave.

They're not scary when they're off the clock."

"If you don't mind, I'd like to avoid them at all costs."

"I understand that."

Fran nodded with a small smile on her lips. She definitely owed this guy. No one else would have been kind enough to find her and drag her out of house. Had it not been for him, she'd probably be having a panic attack while her friends poked fun of her for being so scared.

"So, Fran," Jack smiled, tugging off the cloak that covered his street clothes. It was surprisingly hot under that thing. "Could I take you out for a hot chocolate or something?"

"Like.. Now?"

"Yes, now. It is now my job to keep you safe. I cannot rest until I know you've had a fill of delicious tonight!"

Fran giggled, nodding her head slowly as Jack extended his arm to her. He was considerably less scary now. Her heart skipped a beat as she let her fingers wrap around his much larger hands, a blush coming to her cheeks as Jack pulled her towards the door. And just as he promised, no one was coming after her. She was safe.

"You're totally my new best friend," Jack hummed, giving her hand a small squeeze. "I will forever you keep you safe, my dear Fran."

"You mean it?"

"Swear it."
