With You Around

Thirty-Five

Alex and I finally arrived at his parents’ house after spending an hour walking to their place several blocks away from his house. I was too exhausted to keep walking, so halfway there, Alex had me jump on his back and he carried me the rest of the way.
“Bonnie,” Alex called for my attention.
“Yes Alex,” I asked in a flirtatious tone.
“Do you want me to your parents,” he asked.
“Honestly not really. To tell you the truth, my parents refused to talk me ever since I was diagnosed with my anxiety. They thought I was crazy and stopped paying any attention to me. Only my brothers cared about me. They always made sure they could get me to my doctor for my medications and that I was doing well in school; they were my only family. But when I decided to major in music business management, Travis, Dustin, and Bryan were disappointed that I wanted to get into the music industry. So over the years, we all drifted apart and they started their careers and families. Bryan actually gave me shit last Christmas over still being unmarried and childless. I was offended by him and I refused to talk to him after that,” I was trying not to cry over the lack of compassion in my family.
“Well your brothers were dicks. I want to meet them and rub it in their faces that you have the most amazing boyfriend that will help you through everything and get you a place in the music industry. I love you very much, Bonnie. I can’t let you go and I hope I never plan to either,” Alex stopped walking and set me down on the sidewalk and pulled a ring box out of his jacket, “I got you this. It’s a promise ring. It’s my vow to be at your side even if I’m not in the same state or country. I love you very much, and I can’t say it enough.”
“Alex, it’s beautiful,” I gushed over the silver ring with two hearts, one turquoise and the other was a ruby. It was absolutely gorgeous and I was in awe as Alex slid it onto my right ring finger.
“I’m glad you like it. Now get back on so I can get you to my parents’ for dinner,” we smiled together as I hopped onto his back, wrapping my short legs around his waist and my arms around his shoulders.

I finally got myself and Bonnie, along with Baz and Peyton, to my parents’ house in record time, even with my pit stop to give Bonnie her promise ring. I got it for her while she was out with Nyssa after her last attack. Since then, we’ve had a couple scares. Even when we were in the hotel in New York and we tried to have sex again, Bonnie nearly had an attack. So instead of sleeping with our backs to each other frustrated at each other since the mood was killed by her fears, I held her tightly to me, letting her know every second that I loved her and I wasn’t going to leave her.
Taking her to meet my parents was another key factor in telling her that I actually think she might just be the one for me. It’s just too early for us to get engaged, but I’m always thinking about it and how I want to do it. I know I want it to happen in Florida on the that same street corner I nearly knocked her to the ground.
“Alright so you know, my parents have very thick accents. I will translate the slang they use as best as I can and clarify what they’re talking about since you aren’t British like us,” I kissed her cheek as I rang the doorbell to my parents’ house.
“Alexander, what a lovely surprise,” my mom greeted us as she opened the door and welcomed us inside.
“Alex, my boy, it’s good to see you. Who’s this lovely young lady you have with you,” my dad greeted us.
“Mum, Dad, this is my girlfriend Bonnie,” I introduced Bonnie and she smiled warmly to my parents.
“Alex, she looks almost too young to even know some of the things you do,” my mom commented on Bonnie’s young appearance due to her very short height compared to me.
“She’s going to be 25 in July, Mum. She’s just looks younger due to her height,” I saw Bonnie was hanging her head, trying to hide her blushing cheeks. My mom is so embarrassing sometimes I swear.
“She’s absolutely lovely. How did he convince you to be his girl, I’m sure you know that he doesn’t over much in the intimacy department,” my dad loved to tease me sometimes in front of my girlfriends. I noticed Bonnie didn’t quite get my dad’s humor and had grabbed onto my hand tightly, which meant she was trying not to have an anxiety attack.
“She and I have a lot in common. I met her in Florida during my tour. I had bumped into her and we eventually started talking about little things and we bonded instantly. Plus I help her with her anxiety,” I told him.
“He’s right on that. He’s been helping me a lot,” Bonnie added in sheepishly.
“Well, my son is very lucky to have you, dear. I hope he’s been making you happy as I can tell you make him happy,” my mom stepped into the conversation to stand up for Bonnie and help her feel more welcomed.
“He always has a way of making me smile,” Bonnie replied to my mom.

Alex and I ate dinner with his parents and we chatted about my life in Florida. Alex made sure to avoid bringing up my family issues or any of my attacks. Once we had finished, Alex’s dad drove us back to Alex’s house to drop off his dogs. Luckily when we got back, Lisa was gone and we slipped the dogs into the house. Then his dad dropped us off at the bus just as Jack and Nyssa got back to the bus themselves from their busy day. I was really tired from constantly fighting to hold onto my sanity and holding off my attack that nearly happened at Alex’s parents’ house.
“Bonnie, are you alright,” Nyssa asked when she saw how I was leaning on Alex to even attempt to walk.
“I’m just really tired. We had a busy day today,” I told her. That’s when she and Jack noticed my new ring.
“Bonnie, your ring is beautiful,” Nyssa gushed.
“Do you know what it is Nyssa,” Jack asked, she shook her head, “Alex gave Bonnie a promise ring. It’s a way to show that you promise to faithful and to always be at that person’s side, even if you are miles apart.”
“It’s so romantic,” Nyssa gushed.
“Well I try,” Alex replied. We both blushed a little.
“Let’s get on the bus,” I yawned, “I’m about to fall asleep standing up here.”
