Confessions of a Teenage Fangirl

Prologue: It's Kind of a Life or Death Situation...

I knew this moment would come eventually. I knew that my peers and I would experience torture. We’d have to endure endless hours of pain and suffering. Some of us wouldn’t even make it to the end. We were about to put our lives on the line for every high school senior’s worst nightmare: the dreaded Senior Project!

I know that you think that I’m over-exaggerating this topic. Hell, the words “drama queen” probably popped into your head at some point, and you’re right. I am sort of a drama queen, but only because I’ve spent my spare time watching cliché high school movies and they ended up giving me unrealistic expectations for high school. Like, for example, I’d have two best friends who would love me unconditionally and would back me up in all situations; or maybe that I’d be an “ugly duckling” in my freshman year, but I’d become one of the prettiest girls in my class during senior year; or maybe, just maybe, I’d have some completely epic moments throughout these last four years that I’d probably be telling my grandchildren about one day.

But, no, none of that happened. First off, my best friend, Jen, graduated three years ago, so that only left me with my other best friend, Luke, to fend for ourselves from sophomore year and up.

Jen’s always been close by, though. She recently landed a job as a bartender at one of the most popular bars in our area. In all honesty, though, I think that she only got the job because my older brother, Cam, is the hiring manager, and he’s been in love with Jen since they were in high school, but I digress.

Secondly, I might have been an “ugly duckling” in freshman year, but in no way did I ever secure a spot as one of the prettiest girls in the senior class, which means that you can file me, Audra Banning, under the title of “kind of cute”. You know what that is, right? It’s like the same way you’d describe your little sister. Lovable, but not dateable.
On the plus side, I might just hold the record for “girl who’s never kissed a boy, been on a date, or had a boyfriend”. Lucky, lucky me.

As for those “epic moments” I just told you about? Well, I think that you can guess that, up until this point, the last four years have been pretty boring for me. I pretty much just stayed home and studied and watched endless marathons of Supernatural with Luke.
Anyways, the Senior Project is a huge deal. It’s worth over forty percent of our final grade, so if you fail, say goodbye to your prom ticket and any other senior activities we’ll have over the next couple of months, and say hello to “credit recovery” classes held before and after school just so you can “fix” your GPA just so you can graduate.

“But, Audra, what do you have to do for your Senior Project?” you might ask. Good question!

It’s a project where your English teacher assigns a topic that is supposed to “inspire” you to make something creative. This can include, but is not limited to: poetry, a collection of short stories, interpretive dances, songs, home movies, etc. Anything goes as long as you follow the rules, which are pretty simple: 1. You must have an original idea. 2. You must have a creative vision. 3. Your project should relate to the topic assigned by your teacher. 4. No matter what day you are presenting your project to the class, you must turn in you project on the assigned due date or you will not receive any credit.

The topic my English teacher, Mr. Hart, had assigned the class was “The Magic of One Night”. Even though this topic sounds rather cliché and inappropriate at the same time, Mr. Hart said that the reason why he and the other English teachers had chosen this topic was because each of us would be experiencing a number of magical nights for the next few months, such as prom night and the night of graduation. I know, it disgusts me too, but I think that Mr. Hart was on to something when he assigned this topic.

I did happen to have a rather eventful night a little while ago, and I can’t decide if it was the best or worst night of my life.

All I know is that it all started with this stupid project…and it ended with a band known as All Time Low.

Notes

So this is just a teaser chapter. I might or might not write more depending on how this goes. It will get better though!

And if you haven't already, go ahead and checkout my other story, "Creating a Life of Trends and Make Believe". I'll be updating that one as soon as well!

I love feedback, so feel free to comment!
