Forever and Always. (CONTEST ENTRY)

One Shot Forever and Always.

Alex ran around the kitchen, cleaning up, and making final touches on the dinner he was cooking for Jack. He would be home quite soon, and everything had to be perfect for the lanky boy. Expecially for their 4th year anniversary, which just happened to be today. Sebastian, Alex’s and Jack’s dog, jumped up on him eagerly, wanting attention. “ Oh my god, Sebastian, I can’t handle you right now. Go play with your toy or something.” Alex turned back around stirring what was in the pot. The dog whimpered, and rolled around near Alex’s legs. “Sabby! Stop!” Alex started getting annoyed; Sebastian never acted like this! Finally Alex gave in and started petting his head, but that’s not what he wanted. The dog jumped up again, squealing, grunting and making any noise he could. Honestly, it scared Alex a little to see him like this. “Sabby are you sick?” Alex said softly, trying to calm the dog down. Of course his attempt didn’t work, and he just went about jumping around. ‘Such an odd thing...’ Alex thought to himself, but went on with cooking the dinner.

After an hour of cooking, the table had been set, and ready for the boys to eat. But there was a problem; Jack wasn’t home from work yet. Alex groaned at the bad timing. He’d have to heat it up when Jack got home. But he sat at the table, waiting for another hour, before finally getting up and dragging himself to the living room. ‘Why would he be so late?’ Alex thought. Did he mention overtime today? Certainly not. He said he’d be home by Seven. He took a glance at the clock, the big numbers ‘8:30‘ Shining in his face. By now, Alex thought something was wrong, or his job is holding him until nine. Alex had been thinking so hard, he almost didn’t hear the phone ring. Maybe it was Jack. Alex ran to the phone, picking it up.

“Hello?” Alex bit his lip waiting for a reply. “Is this Alex Gaskarth?” “Yes sir, it is. Who is this?” The boys tone was filled with confusion. “This is the local hospital, your fiance Jack has been in an accident. Sir, It’s not so good, and I advise you to come down quickly.” His ears rung from the new information sinking in. “I-is he going to die?” Alex’s eyes filled to the brim with tears as the man on the phone just sighed, telling him to get there quickly. Alex hung up the phone, and grabbed his coat and keys. The cold air seemed to smack him across the face when he burst through his door. “He will be fine, He will be fine...” He muttered the words a thousand times before reaching the giant hospital. Alex kept thinking about how bland it was, and if Jack died here, It wouldn’t be right because it’s not exciting enough. The walls were a creamy ivory color, that made anyone look bland if they were to stand against them. The floor was tiled like an emerald and white checker board, giving the place a dull but elegant look. Certainly not the place Jack Barakat would die.

Alex was getting more worried with each step he took down the hallways to the ICU. He knew he should calm down for Jack’s sake, but the second he stepped in the room to see the battered boy, Alex let body racking sobs rip through the sound barrier of the room. He did not look good at all. “Al-Alex...” The lanky boy on the bed called out to him. Alex quickly grabbed the boys hand, and kissed it a few times, sobbing loudly. “Alex. Calm down sweetie.” Jack whispered softly. “It’s going to be okay. When I get out of this, me and are going to have the best wedding ever. Everyone will be there. We will adopt a kid or two, raise them to love music as much as we do. Alex, me and you will beat the world, okay? Calm down baby.” Jack kissed his head softly. “J-jack, how am I supposed to believe that? Look at you! You’re in the ICU, you don’t even look like you right now because of how bad you’re scratched up! Jacky, I’m scared!”
Jack sighed, looking at Alex lovingly. “Alexander William Gaskarth...” The words brought the memory of late December back to Alex, making him crack a sad smile. The day they got engaged.

“Jack, You’re so ...cute.” Alex laughed, watching his jump for joy at the movie, Home Alone. “Oh hush, it’s my favorite movie!” Suddenly the clock struck 12, and Jack ran across the room to get a box. Alex, looking confused, and sat still, waiting for Jack to explain. “Alex! Come here!” Alex got up, following the lanky boy’s voice; He led him to the back porch, where Jack stood outside, smiling like an idiot. “Alex, come here,” He whispered, and Alex stepped onto the porch, looking at Jack. Jack looked perfect. The cold made his cheeks and the tip of his nose red, making him look so cute. The snow, falling on his dark hair, gave Jack the appearance of an angel. But the final touch was, the porch light shone in just the right way to make his face illuminated. 'What an Angel...’ He thought to himself, marveling at his beauty.“Alexander William Gaskarth.;You know how you’re the women in this relationship?” Jack smiled wider, making Alex laugh. “Yes, I am.” He bit his lip, looking Alex in the eyes. “Alex, Will you marry me, and let me change your last name to Barakat..?” Alex couldn’t believe his ears. Everything felt as if it was in slow motion. Before Jack could do anything, Alex leaped on the boy, squealing tons of “Yes”’s, and “Oh my god!”’s. “Jack you make me the happiest person on the planet!!!” Jack smiled, kissing the boy softly. “Merry Christmas Alex...”

Alex finally came back to earth after Jack called his name a few times. Jack gave Alex a small smile, kissing his nose. “Alex. I love you. Nurse!” The nurse walked over, tears running down her small face. They have created such a scene infront of everyone. “Y-yes Mr. Barakat?” Jack smiled, winking at Alex. “Go and see if anyone will let us borrow their wedding bands, and if you can find a preacher, that would be nice to. Me and Alex will get married right here and now.” Alex looked down at the silver engagement ring Jack had gotten him, and blushed a soft red. “J-Jack.” He looked up at the beaten boy. “Yes Lexy?” Alex bit down on his lip, holding back tears. “I love you so much.” Jack smiled. “I love you to.” Finally the nurse came in with two rings, and a man in a suit behind her.

The preacher quickly went through some readings, and we said our vows. Alex and Jack kissed each other, making them partners for life. “Alex,” Jack smiled sadly. “always remember, I love you. Even if I’m here, or not. I’ll always love you.” The nurses, the preacher all stuck around with a glass of juice, laughing, trying to lighten up things. Honestly it was what the boys needed. Happiness in the sad moment taking place. Alex smiled back, kissing Jack again. “I love you to. Always remember that.” The lanky boy laughed weakly. “Wouldn’t forget it in a million years.” The boys smiled at each other. Jack slightly frowned, and kissed Alex again. “Jack, what’s wrong?” “I love you.” Jack screamed out in pain, before his eyes closed, and he flat lined.

The doctors ran in, while the nurses forcefully pushed Alex out of the room. “JACK!” Alex screamed, feeling his heart brake in his chest. No, he felt his heart being murdered in his chest. He couldn’t believe it. The love of his life would be gone, and there was no way to get him back. No matter what those doctors did. Jack was gone. Alex sobbed loudly, pulling at his hair, frustrated. “WHY ME!? WHAT HAVE I EVER DONE!!!?” He screamed. He broke down, falling to his knees next to the room door. He started to hear electricity charging, and a man saying: “Clear!” Followed by a shock. Quickly, he blocked it out, crying louder than ever. ‘Jack Bassam Barakat, I love you so much!’ Alex thought to himself. He felt every bone in his body just give up, every muscle ache. His brain couldn’t say anything but Jack’s name. Alex looked at the ring on his finger, sobbing even louder, if possible. “GOD DAMMIT!” He kicked the wall, curling up into a fetal position.

Alex barley noticed the doctor coming out of the room. “Alex. I’m so sorry...” The doctor sounded like he was crying. He lost it right there. All his sanity. The older boy got up and ran to his car. The footsteps sounded heavy, and thick in Alex’s ears. The chatting of the faimly’s was white noise. People say he lost his mind, running that fast in a hospital. The boy didn’t know what to do anymore, and before he could think about it, he was heading towards his car.
The very second he reached the door, he started digging in the shoe box for the thing he needed. A hand held gun. He had it to protect him and Jack if he needed to. Funny how he’s using it now to ruin himself. Alex brought the gun to his head. Every memory of the two boys flooded his head, the time they met in high school, the sleep overs, the moments they played pranks on teachers, and years later, when Alex came out of the closet to Jack; saying he loved him. The older boy couldn’t take it anymore, and he slowly put pressure on the trigger.‘BAM!’ He fell to the ground, heavy as lead. Alex was dead on impact, for the bullet showed the boy no mercy at all.

The parking lot filled with panicky women and children, as a man called 911, slapping Alex’s face. “C’mon boy, stay with me!” Alex’s heart stopped beating, his organs slowly began shutting down, and his spirit was lifted to Jack’s. They both sat in a single low laying cloud, watching the commotion. “You should have stayed you know.” Jack muttered. “No way. Not without you.” The two boys laughed and jumped down to the scene. “What do you think happens next?” Alex asked. The lanky boy shrugged, looking at him. “I guess we make a new start and stay together forever and always.” The oldest nodded, staring at his body. “I don’t regret it.” Alex replied, smiling happily. “I’m with you now, and that’s all that matters.” Jack rolled his eyes, kissing him. “C’mon lets go. This is getting depressing.” The boys jumped back into the low laying cloud, staring at the now darkened sky.

~~~~~
January 24th, the day Alex and Jack made a story of themselves. Their anniversary of getting together, and their anniversary of leaving this world together. The boy’s story lived in the hospital for years, touching everyones heart with their determination to be together. 7 years later, a nurse published a novel based on the story. She named the story ‘Forever And Always.’ The book became very popular around the world. But, what everyone wasn't aware of, was that the story still lived on, even after their own deaths. The boys made it to the middle. Where they can stay together Forever and Always. ~~
I swear dogs have like physic powers... before my uncle died a few years back, his dog went absolutley nuts, jumping and barking everywhere. It was really wierd.
It's pretty tragic how the dog knew before Alex did.
