Photographs and Gasoline - One-Shot

Photographs and Gasoline :)

Tonight, it was dark. Darker than any other cold, December night. The world around him felt silent, calm. Just waiting for the pin to drop. The moon and the stars hidden behind a sheen of cloud, afraid of what was going to happen next.
He sat in the middle of an abandoned train track, the area cleared. He sat on a log, the tree long fallen. It was silent, empty, nothing but the swaying of the trees to fill his ears.
The railroad tracks, long gone, a train hadnt graced this area in well over 25 years. The tracks themselves, worn with 25 years of rain, sleet, snow, and wind. Cracked, and dirty. Just like himself.
There he sat, digging under his fingernails. His hair, spiked, coated in hairspray. It was a dark brown. A heavy black coat, the collar of his red, plaid shirt peaking through the coat. His jeans, tight, black, hugging every curve of his body. His vans were dirty, black. His eyes, dark. He was hiding secrets, plans, revenge. The circles under his eyes, pure proof of all the sleepless nights that had consumed him.
His sleep deprivation and the ache of his heart was enough to make anyone crazy, mind long gone. And that's exactly the state that this man was in.
His lips were chapped, his teeth tearing at the dead skin.
He heard footsteps, he stood up quickly, his tooth tearing off the piece of skin off his lips that he'd been chewing on.
Jack rounded the corner, crouching to get under some brush to allow himself entrance into the clearing.
He thought Jack looked perfect, much better than he usually did. His hair, streaked blonde, was in a fo-hawk. His teeth, gleaming white. He had shaved recently, unlike the man studying him. Jack wore a grey 'Jagk' teeshirt and some purple skinny jeans, some Nike hightops to tie it together.
He thought Jack looked absolutely stunning, and if he hadnt fucked up their relationship, he would have still been sleeping with Jack.
'Alex,' Jack whispered, 'Alex, why did you call?'
'I wanted to get you here,' Alex said casually, shrugging his shoulder in Jacks direction, but he couldn't look him in the eyes. Not really, he didn't wanna see the pain he'd caused Jack, and he didn't want Jack to see the pain he was in.
Jack made the first move, crossing the small clearing within a matter of seconds, closing the gap between their faces.
His lips were cold as ice against Alex's. Alex pressed harder, reaching back and taking a hand full of Jacks dark locks, pulling hard.
He slipped his tongue between Jacks lips, running his tongue along the roof of Jacks mouth.
He groaned softly, almost inaudible, into Alex's mouth. He placed his lanky body onto his lap, grinding down. Alex could feel Jacks erection pressing into him.
His hands went to his button, sloppily trying to undo them.
Alex stopped him, pulling his hand away.
Jack almost whimpered. Almost.
'No use taking off your clothes,' Alex whispered, even though there was no one around to hear, much less see.
'But, Alex,' Jack was still trying to catch his breath, 'baby, it's hurting.'
Alex drew his hand back, slapping Jack across the face with as much force as he could muster.
Jack wasnt going to call him baby, that's what she used to call him.
Jack looked at Alex, scared and confused.
Alex actually laughed, a cruel, harsh laugh.
It was almost disgusting, such a demeaning, putrid sound coming out in Alex's beautiful, comforting voice.
It was horrifying that a sound such as that one could fall from such beautifully formed, parted lips.
'We won't be going there tonight,' Alex said, the words coming out as a low growl.
'Alex,' Jack whispered.
'You were kind enough to say hello, I figured I could atleast say good- by the way, I was thinking about telling you, that I was in love with her.'
Jacks eyes widened. He knew what Alex was doing. He knew why Alex looked so completely and utterly defeated.
Jacks head got light, and he fell back into that night.
****
Caydynce Rosa Lee
She was so beautiful.
Jack couldn't keep his eyes off of her, no matter if he was gay or not.
Caydynce wasn't someone you wanted to be involved with, she was trouble.
But she was also someone you couldn't keep your eyes off of. Not even because you wanted to be with her, just because of the sheer beauty she held in her tiny 5 foot 3, 105 pound self.
Her soft, pink hair fell in curls a little past her shoulders. She had 'Just breathe, and let the rest come easy,' tattooed along her collar bone, her septum pierced, a small metal hoop peaking from her small delicate nose.
Tonight, she wore a halter top that read 'Live On Stage,' with some dark wash jeans. She wore pink checkered slip on Vans. Her tongue ring was pink and black, swirled. She wore a very light pink beanie. Even her phone case was black, but with pink kiss marks on it. As soon as she saw Jacks car, she grabbed her pink Jansport backpack, throwing it over her shoulder and sprinting towards Jacks car. Jack noticed the delicate white flower tucked behind her ear.
Alex was with the tiny, trouble-making female.
That's why Alex is so goddamn crazy, Jack thought to himself.
She made every boyfriend she had crazy.
Jack loved this girl, she was his best friend.
Other than Alex, that is.
She knew that Jack loved Alex, but she herself loved him.
She had offered to give up Alex, so long as her and Jack would remain friends.
Jack turned down this girls offer, pleading her to stay with Alex.
She was the only thing that made him happy, even though she made him equally as crazy.
But tonight, Alex didnt know that Jack was taking Caydynce to a party.
A party that Alex had already said no to.
She hopped in the car, and they took off towards Alex's ex-girlfriends house party.
While they were there, they drank. A lot.
They were doing Jell-O shots, body shots, they constantly had a beer in their hands.
When Caydynce got really drunk, she pulled Jack off to the side, in the backyard, away from the bumping music and the massive amounts of sweaty bodies, stuck together, dancing in the living room.
'Jacky,' she slurred, 'I have something I wanna tell you.'
Jack pushed a curl, in a not so graceful motion, out of her face.
'Cay, you can tell me anything,' He gave her a drunken smile.
'Im pregnant,' she mumbled.
He dropped his beer, the bottle shattering around them.
'Caydynce Rosa, what the fuck do you mean you're pregnant?'
At first, she looked ashamed, but then, she got angry.
'Jack! Alex put his dick inside of me, and finished! What do you mean what do I mean?' She tried to say without her drunken slur, but she failed miserably.
'Youre drunk! And pregnant! We're leaving now! Get in the goddamn car.'
Jack tried to order her, but sounding too conflicted to be forceful.
She hung her head, and reluctantly made her way to the car.
She thought Jack was mad at her for having Alex's baby because he loved Alex. But really, he was mad because she was putting Alex's baby in danger.
Jack grabbed the remainders of their stuff and made his way to the car.
He got in, silently.
He pulled up to a gas station,
'Drive to Alex's, wait for me to get there,' Jack ordered, a little bit more clear minded.
'What are you going to do?' Caydynce asked, reluctantly.
'Im taking a walk, I need a plan for how we're going to tell Alex this whole thing,'
She nodded slightly and got out of the car.
He didn't say anything, he didn't even look back at her.
He heard her start the car and pull away, getting in the left hand lane to turn.
The light was red.
He didn't know she was going to run it, he regretted the second he let her get into that drivers seat.
But that didn't take it back.
And it didn't stop the semi from rolling the small car under all 16 of it's wheels.
It didn't stop the squeel of the metal all the way down the road. It didn't stop the sounds of glass breaking.
It didn't stop the ringing in Jacks ears.
It didn't stop another, too perfect, too young life being snatched up from this world.
It didn't stop Alex's fetus' heart from stopping right at the second of it's mom being compacted by 10 tons of steel.
'NO!' Jack screamed, dropping to his knees.
'CAYDYNCE!' He hopelessly screamed into the night, everyone stopping to stare.
He shakingly pulled out his phone.
He pressed the numbers he so desperately just wanted to never exist.
'9-1-1, what's your emergency?'
The operator said, in a too bright manner, into the receiver.
'Theres been a fatal accident on Sunset and Tropicana, please hurry.'
'Okay, sir. They're on thei-'
Jack hung up the phone, dialing another phone number. He hoped to god this one didn't answer.
'Jack, it's 3 in the morning. What's wrong?'
Alex answered, his voice laced in sleep.
'Alex, it's over.'

They were in the hospital before Jack could process what was happening.
Alex had Jacks hand, held tight.
In any other circumstance, Jack would be beaming.
The doctor took slow steps toward us. Alex had began to shake and sweat. I grasped harder.
'Mr. Gaskarth?'
'Yes!' Alex popped up, hope in his eyes.
The doctor shook his head, and Jacks heart dropped.
Alex's knees began to visually shake, the doctor dropped his head, mumbled and apology, and walked away.
He held Alex, and that was the first night they slept together.
******
Alex looked at Jack, when Jack started to blink off the memory.
'Im still in love with her.' He choked out, breathlessly.
'She was pregnant, Jack! Pregnant! And you brought her to a fucking party, got her drunk? Are you stupid?'
He turned around, red in the face. He wound his fist back, punching the tree next to him as hard as he could. He turned back around to face Jack, smiling a dirty smile. He fingered at a spider web.
'Thats exactly what I've done. I've spun a web, Jack. A perfect web. Look at it, Jacky. The web I wove. It's so intricate, so delicate in design. I didn't miss a beat. And you were trapped, trapped right into my perfect web. And now, now you're my pray,' he spat at Jack, so harsh. So raw. So emotionless.
Jacks heart suck, and his feet were rooted to the spot he hasn't gotten up from when Alex had slapped him.
Just then, Alex left his spot at the web, running over to Jack, sitting on top of him.
Alex pulled something out of his pocket, sticking it far down Jacks throat, gagging him. Alex then shut his mouth and ran his hand down Jacks throat, causing him to swallow what he'd just shoved in his mouth.
Jack didn't know what to do, he loved Alex so much. And he had just given Jack something that could potentially kill him.
'But, A-Alex, I love you. You were mine, we were so happy.' Jack said, a lump in his throat forming.
He smiled a hideously toxic smile.
'Wait, wait, wait,' Alex said, punctuation every word with a soft stomp on the floor, circling Jacks unmoving body, 'let me set this record straight, Jack.'
Jack let a tear fall, sinking into the earth, that had become frozen, much like Jack.
'I was never yours in the first place.
I was Caydynce's, I was always hers. Her and my child had my heart. But guess who took them away from me? You did. It was all your fault. Even after I told both of you no, you still went. You got my girlfriend drunk. And then you had her run over by a fucking semi. I told you I would break your heart,' Alex smiled a sly smile at Jack, almost as if he didn't feel an sorrow about what he was doing to Jack and his heart.
Then Jack realized it, he couldn't move. Not because he was in shock of what Alex was doing and saying, he literally couldn't make his arms or legs move.
'Alex, Alex what happened? Why the fuc-'
He smiled, pulling a box from behind the log he sat on.
Alex pulled the lid off, exposing a hundred different pictures.
Jacks breath caught in his throat when Alex tipped the box over, spilling the hundreds of pictures they've taken together since their childhood.
Alex lifted on of Jacks hands, sliding a photo delicately inbetween his fingers.
'Look at it, Jack,' Alex whispered, putting it infront of his face.
It was a picture of him and Alex, during the summer, in their swim trunks infront of a pool.
Alex's long hair was pressed against his forehead, because it was wet.
Jack, still dry, was standing near Alex.
Alex had a huge grin on his face and his arm around Jack.
They genuinely looked so happy to be there.
It made Jacks heart start to crack.
'Take this photograph, Jack,' Alex said slowly, wrapping Jacks hand in duct tape.
Once he was done wrapping Jacks hand so the picture would stay in place, he started to pour gasoline over the picture, Jack, and Jacks
arm.
A tear managed to escape, considering it was extremely difficult for Jack to even move his eyes. He didn't think he possessed the ability to talk any longer.
'The old Alex is gone, Jacky. And he's not coming back. His heart is broken, his love for you is too strong for anyone to bare. That's why I killed him. I killed him so that I wouldn't feel all the conflicting feelings I had in my heart, and now, now I'm here. In Alex's place, call me Alexander. But it's not your fault, Jacky. You're not the one to blame for my sudden burst of realization, you're not!'
Jack thought Alex was crying at the end, maybe some part of Alex still loved him. But in that moment, Jack realized that Alex had totally lost his mind, he was steadily going insane. And Jack knew he was going to die.
'Jack..' Alex whispered, like he thought someone was listening. But no one was. And Jack wished there was.
'The chemistry, what happened between you and me, liars like us, it ignites,' his eyes got wide as he continuously flicked the lighter to life, a grin spread across his face, 'like gasoline Jack. These explosions, they're all around me, make them stop!'
Alex tugged at his hair, ripping it out, quaking.
Jack so desperately wanted to run up to Alex, and hug all the hurt and all the insanity from his frail body.
But Jack knew that wasn't how the night was going to end. He just wanted the old Alex back. The Alex Jack loved, oh so deeply.
'Why is this happening to me? Why are they so fucking loud?! Make them go away!!'
And with that he dropped to his knees, sobbing.
'I wanna go home,' Alex screamed, his body shaking,' I need to be home. But it's not home, Jack, it's not home without Caydynce! Not without her next to me. Take me home again.'
At his last sentence, his head tipped up toward the sky, his eyes closing, like he was at peace finally.
Then his gaze was back at Jack, his eyes swollen and bloodshot.
He walked toward Jack, anger evident in every step.
'Is this where you thought I'd be? How's this for your spotlight?
You told everyone I'm crazy. I'm not fucking crazy. I'm heart broken, get your shit straight, Jack.'
His head started to shake, in an effort to say no.
'Im not fucking crazy,' he whispered so low that Jacks ears strained to hear it.
At that, Alex turned, painfully slowly. He pulled Jacks arm up, lighting the picture that was taped to Jacks hand.
The fire spread quickly, engulfing Jacks arm. Alex leaned down, taking Jacks lips with his. He felt the stubble on his unkept face start to singe off.
He pulled away, seeing the pure agony in Jacks eyes.
He smiled at it.
He grabbed the gasoline, pouring it all over Jacks body, watching the fire feed off of it, and Jacks flesh.
He could have sworn he heard Jack say I'm sorry and I love you.
He just laughed again, picking up the guitar that he had his behind the log aswell, and started to sing.

'Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick,
Jack sent to hell, with a candle stick,
Oh, it will be,
Oh, it will be a hard time, in the old town tonight,
Oh, it will be,
Oh, it will be a hard time in the old town tonight,
Tonight,
Tonight,
Burn this city down,'
The song was slow, as he watched the body of his former lover burn.
His rough fingers picking gently at the strings.
If you had just walked in, it would seem like a beautiful moment.
But there was nothing beautiful About this.
Alex had just taken a life, a life that meant the world to him.
Alex threw all the rest of the pictures, along with his guitar, into the fire. He dumped all the rest of the gasoline over the fire.
'Im going home,' he whispered into the night.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, smiled, and leapt into the burning pile.
His screams echoed through the empty city.
In a sick way, his screams were like a lullaby, lulling him and Jack to sleep.
