The Promise

Alex's p.o.v.

"Jack?" I mumbled after noticing Jack was silent. There was no reply, and I sighed.

"Jack." I said a little louder, slowly pulling him off me. When his face was in view, he opened his eyes, and they were pink from crying. Wait, did he fall asleep on me? He rubbed his eyes and yawned, confirming that yes, he had fell asleep on me.

That's so...

cute.

"Alex! There you are! I was getting worried." Both mine and Jack's head whipped over to where Katy was walking up to us. I slowly let go of Jack, moving my arms back to my side. She came up to me and kissed me, taking me by surprise.

"Tell me where you are next time," She groaned, and looked over to Jack, then back to me. "Have you two sorted what ever was happening out?" She questioned, her head diving from me to Jack. I looked at Jack, seeing anger and...jealousy in them. Oh no, Jack, please don't get jealous.

"Y-Yeah. Well, I think..." I trailed off to no where.

"Well good. Cass wants to see us for the adoption papers." She said, her voice not really enthusiastic. Did she even want a child with me, because it didn't seem like it to me.

"Um, well, I think we should wait a week, you know, before we sign anything." I mumbled at the end, playing with the end of my shirt. Katy looked at me funny, before shrugging.

"Whatever you want, babe."

And I don't know why, but when she called me that, and for the time ever, it was awkward. For me, anyway. I think it's because Jack is standing there, giving both me and Katy little glares and I just knew he was jealous. I knew it hurt him, as well. Seeing someone you love loving someone else is hard.

"Y-Yeah. Well, shouldn't we be saying goodbye?" I asked awkwardly, brushing down the wrinkled corner of my shirt. Katy nodded and me and Jack followed her. I took little glances at Jack.

He looks really different now. His hair is brown and shorter, styled to perfection. He has a short stubble, too, which suited his face perfectly. Honestly, he looked hotter.

We got back into the building and the reception opened the doors for us to go in. Jack led us down to Cass's office where we walked in and said our goodbyes.

The hardest part of this is saying goodbye to Jack.

The last thing I ever said to him before we forgot each other for five years was goodbye. Ever since then, I've hated the word.

"Hey, um, Jack? Do you maybe want my number so we can, um, catch up again?" I was scared that I was gonna say something wrong. I've fucked up so much in the past, I don't want to repeat that now. I want a nice and easy friendship with Jack; one with no problems or hassles.

"Sure." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone; an IPhone 5.

I did the same, pulling out the latest phone out my jean pocket.

We swapped numbers quickly.

"Um, I guess I'll see you next week?"

He hummed, nodding.

"Alright, so, seeya soon, I guess." I don't know why I was being this nervous around him. Maybe because I knew any wrong word could trigger him.

"Yeah. Seeya soon." He smiled at me, making me melt. Even his smile got cuter. I guess it's because you can see his whole bottom face now, whereas before it was covered by his weird, yet great, "emo" hair.

"Come on, then. Bye, Jack!" Katy pulled on my arm and pulled me away from Jack, waving at him with her spare hand.

He gave a fake smile, mumbling a "bye" to her. I rolled my eyes and waved at him before we walked out the building.

Well, wasn't today just fucking fun?

"So, who is Jack?"

Me and Katy are sat on the sofa, her leaning on my shoulder and cuddled up to me while The Big Bang Theory was playing on our flatscreen TV.

"An old friend of mine." I replied, trying to keep away the guilt. He was so much more than that to me.

"Oh, right. Did you guys fall out, then?" She asked cautiously, looking up at me. I sighed.

"Yeah. I really fucked up a long time ago. Hey, let's not tall about that now, we're over it now." I made am excuse not to tell her the full truth. I know I shouldn't be lying to my fiancee, but she didn't know I was gay and dating Jack all those years ago.

"Oh, right. Anyway, I need to go to work, hon. I'll be home when you wake up, okay?"

This was the thing with Katy. She worked extremely late and for long hours. The thing that gets me suspicious, is that she's "working" an extra hour. I think she thinks I don't know that, but I do, and it's making me paranoid.

I do trust her, but it's just...

Don't most cliché relationships and movies end up with the partner sleeping and seeing someone behind their back?

But I don't think Katy would go that low.

We have sex quite a lot, so I don't think the reason she is/might be sleeping with someone else is because she doesn't get enough sex. Maybe I'm just boring? Maybe I need to spice things up a bit in our sex life?

But Katy might not be cheating and is working later to earn more money?

Still, we need to spice things up.

"Okay." I smiled at her and she got off me to get changed for work. I sighed, turning my head towards to TV and tried to forget about it because it's making me twice as paranoid.

Instead, my mind went straight to Jack.
