The Promise

Jack's p.o.v.

Me and Alex walked around the park for a little bit, and it was pretty empty. It was probably because the sky didn't look like it was in a good mood today, as it looked quite gloomy.

Alex insisted that we sat on the swings, making me roll my eyes at his cuteness. No, Jack. Just friends.

We sat in silence, both of us swaying a little on the swings. Alex was looking down at the ground while I was staring in front of us at the scenery. The park was peaceful, and it looked beautiful. The grass was the most greenish grass I have ever seen, and the trees had pretty flowers and leaves growing out of them with a range of colours.

"So, how did you meet Katy?" I asked out of the blue, turning to him and giving him the best fake smile I could ever give as he looked up. He seemed confused at first, but then his facial features turned softer.

"I actually met her through a mutual, and I guess we clicked." He smiled, although it seemed off. I knew something was up, and I didn't think twice about asking him what was wrong.

"You seem down, are you okay?" I asked, looking at the slightly hunched over figure beside me.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He smiled at me, and I saw right through it. I decided not to press it any further, though, as I didn't want this friendship to be short-lived.

"Alright, but if you need to talk about anything, I'm right here, okay?" I assured him. Of course I was going to be here for him, no matter what he did in the past. The past has been put aside.

"Yeah, thanks." This time he gave me a real smile that was contagious as my own lips twitched into a smile. Just as I was about to get lost in his eyes, I felt something wet hit my cheek, then my other cheek and then my forehead. I was confused at first, until it started randomly pouring it down with heavy rain. Alex squealed, while I laughed.

We both got up, running over to the little babies' shelter they had. The grass was getting wet, so I tried to be careful and not fall on my ass.

We crawled under the little shelter, leaning against the wall, out of breath from running. I was still laughing, and Alex broke into a fit of giggles that made me laugh harder. We laughed hysterically about nothing and I was glad the park was empty.

When we finally came down from our laughing spasm, we stared at each other and straight away I got lost in his eyes, but this time there was nothing to disturb me.

They were as beautiful as ever, but a lot easier to fall into. I felt myself leaning in but I immediately forced myself back.

No. No, no, no, you're just friends! Act like friends! You can't fall for him again!

With that, I sighed, pulling my phone out my pocket to check the time. 2:29 PM.

"I wonder when the rain will pass." I mumbled, stuffing my phone back into my pocket. I turned to Alex, seeing him with his legs up to his chest with his arms on his knees, chin resting on his arms. He looked away from the rain to face me.

"I don't know, soon, maybe." He rambled, hugging himself tighter. He shivered a bit and I remembered he had a thin shirt on. I bet he's freezing! Being the gentleman I was, I took my warm jacket off and passed it to Alex. He looked at it confusedly, and shook his head.

"I'm fine, than-"

"Alex, you're freezing. Take it." I ordered, giving him a stern look. He sighed in defeat and took the jacket out of my hand and put it on. It was only a little bit too big for him.

"Thank you." He grinned at me, hugging my jacket around him more.

"Anytime."

~~~
The rain finally stopped half an hour later while me and Alex were chatting on about nothing.
"Do you work?" I asked, seemingly interested. Actually, I was interested, for no reason, though. I guess I wanted to know what Alex was doing now.
"I don't, Katy does, though. I don't want a job, and I'm definitely not growing up."
"That's pretty great. The only reason I have a job is so I can help Lily get a family. I've not grown up, though." Although people liked to see me as an adult, I'm not much different to how I was as a teenager. Just because I turned a certain number that confirmed I'm now a adult, doesn't mean I have to necessary act upon that. I'm happy being an immature bastard. I'm happy being me.
"Lily is cute and amazing, don't get me wrong, but why Lily?" He asked curiously, biting down on his bottom lip.
"Because when I moved into care, she was like a little sister to me. She made me happy and laugh, gave me a bit of company when I was feeling like shit. She was only three. I feel like I owe her." I smiled, thinking of the good memories. Like when I woke up to paint all over my face and I would be mad for a split second before I would laugh because I knew who did it.
"Aw, that's really sweet of you." He said, but he sounded guilty. There wasn't no reason to be, though. It was my dad's fault.
"Yeah...Hey, it has stopped raining now, I better get going." I honestly had nothing to do, so I don't know why I was announcing that our hang out was over. I guess I didn't want to hold Alex up.
"Oh, yeah, right. I'll see you again, though, right?" He questioned, pulling my Jacket off and handing it back to me.
"Of course, whenever I don't have work. I have nothing to do, anyway." I shrugged, grinning at him. He smiled back and nodded. I insisted that I'd walk Alex to his car.
"Thank you, by the way, for giving me another chance." Alex said as we got to his car. I shrugged.
"It wasn't your fault what happened, it was my dad's. Sure, I was pissed, but I think I'm over it now." I explained. Really, it was my dad's fault.
"I don't know...but hey, at least you're giving me a chance. I'm not going to fuck up this time." He smiled, then unlocked his car. He turned around to face me, then bought me into a tight hug. I wrapped my arms around him, loving the way he created so much warmth.
He pulled away not too long later, and looked at me with his gorgeous eyes.
"I'll see you again."
"Yeah, definitely." I agreed. He gave me one last smile before he got into his car, waving goodbye as he reversed out the parking space. I waved back, and when he was gone, I felt happy. Really happy.
