The Promise

One

Jack's p.o.v.

I pretend to sleep as I hear a girly giggle beside me, knowing exactly who it was. After a while of silence, I quickly shoot my eyes open and grab the little body standing beside my bed with a devilish smile.

"Gotcha." I laughed as I made her swoop in the air like a plane. She giggled and screamed in excitement.

Her name is Lily, and she has been like my little sister as soon as I moved into this care home.

We've known each other for five years, and we were barely apart.

If you're wondering why I'm still at Hollywood care home, that's because I'm now working here.

When I first moved in here, I was depressed. I'm still depressed now, but when I feel down, I pay extra visits to see eight-year-old Lily as her smile brightened my world.

She was shy at first, the twirling hair and mumbles showed it all, but she soon grew attached to me.

She was the reason I was here... I wanted to help her get a new family.

I stopped flying her in the air and she sat on my chest, poking my cheeks with her sweet, beautiful smile.

I never understood why her parents just gave her up; she was a wonderful child.

"Jacky, can we go out today to the, to the field?" The brunette asked with innocence in her voice. I tucked her hair behind her ear and she giggled as my fingers brushed her cheek.

"You'll have to go ask Cass."

As soon as those words left my mouth, she jumped off me, gasping as she ran towards the door.

"Cassy!" She shouted, her high pitched voice bouncing off the walls. I groaned as my ears felt like they were getting pierced right through from her shout.

"Hey, no shouting, Lil'." I told her off gently, getting up from her bed and walking over to her. She grabbed a hold of my sleeve and pulled me out the room. I chuckled at her impatience and eagerness.

The little eight-year-old had quite the energy and was a little too hyper sometimes, but that was part of her personality that I came to love. Even when it was late at night, you'd find her jumping up and down on the bed, (that's why her room is placed at the end of the first storey corridor), and drawing on scrap paper and newspaper. She was quite a funny child, too, pulling funny faces and making jokes out of reindeers - even though they were her favourite animal.

Sometimes she had a low moment too, where she'll ask why everyone including herself doesn't have a mum or a dad. It pained me to see her upset and crying, as she was like my little sister. I'd just tell her that one day she'll have a mummy and daddy like I now have.

Even thoughts of my dad come back to me when I'm alone, and that's when I find myself visiting Lily. When it was late at night and my thoughts got the better of me, I'd have no other way but to try and keep myself away from things that'll hurt me; sometimes it worked.

The first time I relapsed was the second day of arriving at this place. I just couldn't bare being away from the who I loved.

Alex still hasn't left my mind, and I doubt he ever will. He's everything to me, even though he kinda placed me in here in the first place, breaking the promise. I'm still obviously outraged by the fact he let me go so simply, but now that I look back on it, it all made sense.

I was beginning to get all unhappy again and me and Alex would have constant fights. Even the day we decided to get ourselves together and try to pull an end to it, we would throw in a few horrible remarks.

I'm just glad it's all in the past now, but one thing I'll never forget was the promise that he had made.

"Cass." Lily knocked on the door to the office where the long-haired women's office was. We walked in when we heard her shout to come in and Lily was already shooting to her lap.

"Ugh, you're growing so fast each day," Cass pinched Lily's little nose softly, making her and myself chuckle. "What can I do for you, cheeky monkey?" Cass attacked her sides, making her let out tiny gasps and giggles. I watched in amusement.

Cass finally stopped tickling the young girl as she took a breath in, smiling at her.

"Can me and Jacky go out, please? Pretty please?" She said in her best innocence, eyelids fluttering and eyes wide. Cass attacked her with tickles again, making Lily squeal in shock.

"Of course, go get ready." She said, and Lily got down from her lap and running up to me.

"Go get your shoes, yeah?" I told her, and she nodded, running past me and down the corridor. I smiled, turning back to Cass. I walled in the room, closing the door behind me.

"So, have you found a family for her yet?" I asked, hope filling my gut.

I really wanted Lily to have a good family that'll take her out all the time when she needed it.

That's the thing she loves most: going outside. She's an adventurous kid, so being outside let's her use that trait.

"No, not yet. Don't worry, we'll get her one." Cass gave me a reassuring smile, before turning back to her computer. My belly sank at the thought of no one calling in for her yet, but I knew I had to keep positive.

Lily came flying back into the room, her tiny pink dolly shoes on her feet.

"Ready to go?" I raised am eyebrow, and she nodded eagerly at me, nearly jumping on the spot.

I said goodbye to Cass quickly, knowing Lily would be mad if I didn't hurry up.

Walking out the big front doors, I gently held onto Lily's hand. I knew Cass would sign me and Lily out for two hours, so I didn't bother filling in the sheet. We walked outside, and Lily instantly lead the way.

Notes

YES! HELLO AGAIN.

So I wrote this a little earlier then I wanted to and that's because I'm starting a new school tomorrow. I may be stressed free when I get home from school, I might not. So, depending on that, I'll see if I can write the next chapter the same day.

So yes, this is the sequel to "I'll Keep A Secret If You Keep Me Guessing". I sort of changed the cover for that, but eh

But it's nice to start this sequel, but I apologise for it being short and maybe a bit shitty (I was -am- tired). But I didn't want to keep you waiting, so here you go.

I sort of have a plot for this story...sort of

It«s based a little of "The Promise" by Framing Hanley. :)

Bye! I hope you enjoyed.
