Hanna

I wake up to a blinding light. My eyes open slowly I stay blind for a moment as my eyes adjust to the room around me. I lay in a hospital bed. I look around to see Matt and Alex outside the door having an argument with someone out of my view. I can’t see who.
“Hey sleepy head.” I hear a voice next to me,
“Hey Jack.” I turn my head and smile at him weakly “What happened?” I look at him confused.
“You gave the show of a lifetime, got off stage, fainted and then vomited. A lot.” Jack laughs “You’re fine though. You just had some sort of anxiety thing, Doc just said you need to chill out for a night.” He reaches out and takes my hand trying to comfort me. “You really freaked us all out. We finished our set and came over here as quickly as possible.” He looks down then glances over at Alex and Matt. His forehead is all crunched up and wrinkly.
“Jack… What’s wrong? Where are Rian and Zack?” I frown at him trying to read his expression.
“Rian and Zack are walking down to get food. You hungry? I can ask them to grab you a burger.” He hesitantly faces me again.
“That’d be nice, but that doesn’t answer my question.” I sigh. Jack ignores me and looks down at his phone typing something in. Probably texting Rian or Zack. Hopefully he is, I am hungry…
I look over at Matt and Alex when Alex looks over at me, he looks sad, upset. Something is going on. He mouths something to me but I can’t decipher what he’s trying to say. I shrug at him, it looks like he groans and rolls his eyes, it’s hard to tell. I watch him carefully for what seems like forever when they walk into the room.
“What’s going on?” I say immediately pausing a little surprised at how demanding I sound. Alex takes a seat next to Jack and puts his face in his hands. Matt stays standing by the door.
“We sent Ian here with you. He didn’t know the full extent of our situation and the nurse. Well she called your mother.” Matt speaks but his face remains expressionless. Dead, almost like he just walked out of a torture chamber. My heart feels like it stops. Maybe I should be hooked up to a heart monitor.
“What is she doing?” I look down at my lap then close my eyes. I already know the answer.
“She’s coming to get you. And because you’re underage we can’t take you out of here without parental permission. Hanna we need to contact your dad.” Matt walks over and leans on my bed. “Do you know where her is? His phone number? Anything?” I swallow hard and look up at Matt.
“Don’t think about it. It’s not worth your time.” I keep my eyes tightly closed.
“Hanna. That’s the only way you are getting out of here with us. I can’t let you go back to that hell hole.” Matt touches my cheek, trying to get me to look at him. I keep my eyes closed.
“Its no use.” I swallow hard.
“I need you to tell me what you fucking know.” Matt snaps at me. His voice carries. Alex and Jack look up at him surprised. I try to keep my expression blank.
“Last time I checked he was six feet underground.” I open my eyes to look at Matt for a short second, Rian and Zack walk into the room with McDonalds bags.
“I heard sleeping beauty was hungry.” Zack smiles at me kindly, oblivious to what I just said.
“Thanks.” I smile at him as Rian and Zack pass out the food in silence.
“We need a game plan you guys.” Jack is the first one to talk. I look over at him and shake my head.
“For what? My mother is going to get here and then she’ll take me. Otherwise you’d be kidnapping me.” I shrug “I’m going back home. No matter how much I hate the idea of it.” I realize I’m mostly just trying to come to terms with it myself on my impending re-imprisonment.
“We could give her Hanna’s paycheck.” Alex nods.
“What if she pulls up the school issue…” Zack frowns
“We can do her homework now.” Matt shrugs. I look around at the five of them completely disbelieving what is happening.
“Shut up. You aren’t going to waste your time on me again. If I’m with you I’ll just stir up drama and cost you money. Just let my mom take me and get it over with.” All five of them look at me. Matt stands up and walks to the door, I faintly hear him talk to a nurse.
“Excuse me miss. Hanna said she can’t sleep could you please give her a sedative?” Matt keeps his voice calm and pleasant. Rian stands behind him and nods in agreement. The nurse walks in and injects something into my IV I shake my head at her.
“If you fucking dare…” I try to threaten her but I start to doze off a second after she gives me the sedative.
