Time of Her Life
Prologue: Legacy Upon Everyone in Baltimore
Alex’s POV
The skies are a dark pewter grey color, clouds darker than dust and the rain pouring down all upon the people that are on the tombstone clad graveyard.
People sit on the uncomfortable grey plastic chairs, girls in black skirts with green knee high socks and hot pink shirts, the favorite colors of the girl being buried six feet under the ground and the men in tuxedos with the same color scheme.
Two of my buddies and my husband carry the coffin towards the hole in the ground, all each holding one of the sticks to layer it down it carefully, body not planning to be ruined or harmed as it’s in a safe place, or at least a safer place where accidents won’t happen.
Before she’s buried in the ground I walk from where I stand on the podium and touch her burial bed one more time before I say goodbye.
“You made a legacy upon everyone in Baltimore. Goodbye darling, we’ll cross paths again one day, don’t know where we’re heading but I’ll find you one day.” I whisper, one single tear crossing from my left eye and down to the already wet ground.
Everyone stands up as the coffin goes down into the wet and worm filled soil, tears from all the girls that knew her and the mayor’s wife, Courtney Delarose. The boys hold the girls as the tip of the coffin just below seeing sight.
Never have I ever seen that many people all cry at once.
She’s covered in the dirt and that's the last time anyone will ever see her again.
She saved somebody and risked her life for a cause she believed in.
She ran to save that boy.
The boy in green long sleeve shirt who stands right beside me and his eyes bawling out in tears.
Because he was just about ready to jump off the cobblestone bridge in the pouring rain when we were passing by him on that stormy day.
She unbuckled herself from the passenger seat of her bright yellow Volkswagen Beetle that I wouldn’t let her drive since the weather was so bad.
I saw her unlock the door and throw herself out of the car.
“Wait! Don’t jump!.” She cried as she ran to the boy.
“Why shouldn’t I?” He yelled back at her as I slowed the car down.
“You have so much to live for!.” I heard her say as the tears wash down her face with the rain.
“Tell that to someone who actually cares.” He was just about to take the leap off the bridge until I saw her jump in front of him, causing him to fall back on the bridge.
But then I saw her fall.
Fall.
Fall.
Fall.
Fall all the way down and into the brackish water below us.
Her head hit a sharp rock.
From what was once blue.
Turned to crimson.
And then she was gone.
Away from all she knew.
But it was for a cause she believed in.
Gaskarth Pride.
So when the dirt goes over the coffin, we all start to bawl more and that's when I walk up to the podium that rests beside my baby girl.
“She was more than a name or a face in the crowd. She was somebody that everyone wished they could be because she touched our hearts in a good way. I don’t think anyone could forget her. We’ve all been impacted by her in some sort of way. She was amazing, and she was hope for all of us. She was Naomi. Naomi Gaskarth, my seventeen year old daughter.”I say, and then we all bow our heads in silence.
Rest in peace.
Naomi Christine Gaskarth.
Notes
Hey guys! This is one of the many new projects that I'll be working on, this is just one of the many I have installed.
Check out The Last Night if you haven't already.
This will hopefully be updated once a week or so, I don't have a set in stone plan for it but you can give me ideas on what Naomi could've done to help people and make an impact.
Comment and tell me what you think!
Till darkness completes us,
Sarah's Butterflies
