Welcome To My Life

Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught

During our ride into town I learned it was only Zack who had already been drinking. Rian thankfully hadn’t as he still had to drive. At least one of Jack's friends was slightly responsible.

“Why do you drink alone though, what’s the fun of that?” I asked Zack.
Him and Rian were in the front seats while Alex, Jack, Jenna and I were piled up on the backseat.
Zack shrugged. “I just f-felt like it” he slurred.
“And now you’re just gonna drink coke all night or do we have to carry you home by the end of the night?” I asked

“He’ll be drinking coke all night as we can’t buy alcohol” Jack said wryly.
“Seriously?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
“Uh yeah, this is America, and last I checked so was Illinois. We’re not allowed to drink under 21 here, remember?” Jack replied irritated.
“No shit smartass. Don’t you have fake IDs?” I asked them.

All of them, except for Rian who was watching the road, looked at me.
“You? A fake ID?” Jack asked surprised. “Didn’t see that coming.”
“You’re such pussies” I said, shaking my head. “All of my friends back home have them.”
“I didn’t know you had friends” Jack smirked, causing Alex to punch his arm.

“Don’t be a jerk” Alex sneered.
“Look at you, defending your girl” Jack continued.
“Shut up” Alex and I both groaned.
“This is gonna be a fun night” Jenna said sarcastically.

By then, Rian drove onto a parking lot and parked in a spot. We all got out.
“Fresh air!” Jenna exclaimed after she got out.
“Sure beats Jack’s smelly feet” I agreed, making a face.
“And you're telling me not to be a jerk” Jack whined to Alex, who ignored him.

“So, where are we going?” I asked them, after we all got out and Rian locked the car.
An evil grin appeared on Jack’s face. “How about some karaoke?”
“I can’t sing” I muttered, thinking he was kidding.
“I know” Jack replied. “Look at it as in initiation into our group of friends.”

“What makes you think I want to be part of your group?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Jenna is” Jack replied.
I gave Jenna a quizzical look.
“I was young and naïve” she answered my look.

“Just because Jenna is part of your group doesn’t mean I want to be. It’s not like she hangs out with you anymore” I told Jack.
“Do it for Alex!” Jack tried.
I gave him a nasty look. “If you use Alex one more time to make me do something I swear to God I’ll….”
“Yes, that’s enough, we’re here to have fun” Alex interrupted me.
“Are the two of them always bickering like that?” Rian asked Jenna, who nodded.

“Well, karaoke it is” Jack decided. “Let’s go.”
Before I could protest, Jack started leading us to some bar.
“As long as you don’t expect me to listen to crappy singers sing pop music all night” I groaned.
“Don’t worry, we have this alternative karaoke bar” Alex said, appearing next to me.
“Oh” I replied, not knowing what else to say.

Ugh, why did I agree to this? It would be so awkward having Alex around. I already didn’t know what to say to him and Jack being there would only make things worst. After walking in silence for a while, Jack entered a bar on our right side, where some Green Day song was playing. Two men who seemed pretty shitfaced were up on stage singing it. Needless to say, it didn’t sound very good. Then again, who am I to judge? In a few minutes I might be up there breaking the windows with my singing.

We sat down at a table by the window, not too close to the stage so that we could talk and actually hear each other.
“Why did I let them talk me into this?” I asked Jenna who was sitting next to me.
“Why did you talk me into this?” she asked in reply.
“Good point” I admitted.

The Green Day song finally ended, which meant the guys stopped singing.
“Now it’s your turn!” Jack exclaimed.
“Hell no, I’m not nearly drunk enough for that. I’m gonna get some beer. What do you want?”
“Beer, obviously” Jack said excitedly.
“I’ll have a coke” Rian said. “And we probably shouldn’t give Zack any more alcohol either.”
“I can h-handle it!” Zack slurred, but Rian shook his head.
“I’d rather have a coke as well” Jenna said.

“I’ll help you with the drinks” Alex offered.
“I think I can handle it” I groaned.
“Yeah, can you carry 6 full glasses?” Alex asked wryly.
I sighed. “Probably not” I admitted.

Alex and I both got up and headed for the bar.
“I’m sorry about that” I said, just loud enough for him to hear it.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop apologizing?” Alex winked.
“I’ll stop apologizing when I stop giving myself reasons to” I replied. “Jack is just driving me crazy about… well, you.”
“I noticed” he replied.
“It’s nothing personal” I shrugged.
Alex nodded. “I know.”

“You wait here or we might not get the beers” I told Alex and he did so.
I walked up to the bar, ordered the drinks and showed my fake ID. The bartender hardly bothered to check my age - thanks to my makeup probably - and made me the drinks. I paid and took three of the drinks and handed them over to Alex who was waiting a few feet from the bar. I returned to get the last three glasses and we headed back to the table.

“I’m still surprised you have a fake ID” Alex said.
“Why’s that?” I asked him, raising my eyebrows.
“You look like… More of a good girl, I guess?” he shrugged.

“Well Alex, you know what they say. Good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught” I winked.
“And by ‘they’ you mean 5 Seconds Of Summer?” Alex said laughing.
“Maybe” I smirked.
“So you consider yourself a bad girl then?” Alex asked.
“I don’t like to put myself in a box” I winked.
