It's Such A Shame That We Play Strangers

Alex’s P.O.V

The past week, we have all been rehearsing. I have written out the lyrics to a couple of songs, I have written chords. I have been working a lot with Zack and Rian, helping them out with how things should go. Jack, he just shows up for rehearsal and then leaves.

We are meant to be dating, but I don’t feel it anymore. We are so different now. I think that my accident, changed me a lot and that’s why I don’t feel it anymore. I am going to have to talk to Jack about this.

Rian walked into the room, pulling me out of my thoughts. I smiled as he walked over to the drums, taking a seat behind them. He looked over to me and nodded his before tapping at his drums quietly.

‘Rian…’ I said, he looked up to me and smiled.

‘What’s up buddy?’ He asked.

‘Well, I was just wondering, what I should do.’ I replied.

‘About?’ He questioned, placing his sticks on his drums.

‘Well, I have been thinking about Jack and I a lot lately. I just don’t think we should be dating. You know, it doesn’t even seem like that we are.’ I answered.

‘Well, do what feels right Alex. Just make sure you do it nicely. You know how jack can get.’ Rian said before we were interrupted by Jack and Zack walking into the room.

‘So, anyway. What song shall we play?’ I questioned. They all went with ‘Missing You’ so we did.

After the session was over, I asked to talk to Jack alone. Well, I wanted to talk, he really just shrugged his shoulders and walked out, meaning he was going to the room. So I followed him. Once we both reached the room, jack entered and I followed.

‘Jack, we need to talk.’ I said as I shut the door behind me.

‘Yeah. Alex we do.’ Jack said sitting down on his bed. I walked over and took a seat on his desk chair.

‘Well, here is the thing Jack….’ I started to say.

‘Alex, I think we should break up.’ Jack said first. ‘We just see to have drifted since saying I love you. I mean, I really did think that I was in love with you, but who am I kidding, I wasn’t. I’m sorry that I made you think that. I’m not ready for a relationship. I want to concentrate on school, graduate and get an amazing job. I also don’t want to do this band thing anymore.’ Jack said, looking to me.

‘Jack…’ I said, unsure of what to say. He left me speechless.

‘I don’t want to move rooms and if you think it’s going to be awkward, you could just move rooms. Not the first time I’ve been on my own.’ Jack said.

‘What sparked this?’ I asked, now not sure that I wanted it anymore.

‘Well, we’ve been so distance, you are so concentrated on this stupid band thing. I didn’t even want to do it. But I did it for you, because I thought I loved you, but I don’t so there is no point in me bing in the band, no point me being your roommate and no point being your boyfriend. Forget about you moving rooms, I’m going to.’ Jack said before standing up off his bed. I looked to him as he walked to the door, opened it and left without looking back to me.

As I continued to stare at the door, my eyes became watery, vision becoming blurry, I began to feel like this was the worst decision I had ever thought of. Let’s face it, Jack was a big part of my life and I was in his. I mean he made me feel more like a person, he let me be me for most of it. Some people aren’t meant to be together and that’s just how I think Jack and I have turned out.

I want him to realise that maybe things didn’t work out, but I don’t want this thing to end. I still want to be his friend, if he’ll let me.

Jack’s P.O.V

Once I walked out the room, I headed for the office, to arrange the room change. I wanted a new room, and possibly another roommate who I can be friends with. I think Rian and Zack will still be friends with Alex and not me.

Before I walked into the office, I bumped into Zack, who smiled to me and asked how I was doing.

‘Uh, you know, I just broke up with Alex, like I was talking to you about. And yeah, so now to make things a little less awkward, I’m going to change rooms.’ I said as he walked into the office too.

‘Well, why don’t you come into my room? I have a spare bed, as you know. You can just move into mine. I mean as long its okay with the office.’ He said looking to the counter.

‘Hey. I was just wondering if I could change rooms.’ I asked the lady behind the desk.

‘Uh, what’s the reason as to why you want to?’ She asked.

‘My roommate is bullying me and I feel unsafe.’ I lied. I saw Zack look to me in shock.

‘Okay, what is your name, the name of your roommate and the number you are in.’ She questioned.

‘My name is Jack Barakat, my roommate’s name is Alex Gaskarth. We were in room 182.’ I answered.

‘Well, there is a free bed in room 456 that we could put you in?’ She said, looking up at me.
‘Uh. I was wondering if I could share with this guy. He has a spare bed.’ I said, pointing to Zack.

‘What room are you in?’ She questioned.

‘Room 273.’ Zack said.

‘Well, yes. Done. There you are. You are free to move into room 273 Mr Barakat.’ The lady said. I smiled to her as I thanked her. I walked back out the office behind Zack.

‘Alright Jack. Let’s go get your stuff.’ Zack said as he pulled me by my arm.

We weaved through the crowd in the halls until we reached room 182. I can’t say my room and it’d be wrong of me to say our room. I walked in, looking and seeing Alex lying on his bed, with his back facing Zack and I.

We continued to pack most of my things. I grabbed all the necessary things before going looking into the room once more. Things had changed like, there once was no one. There once was Tyler and I. Now there was Alex and I but now it’ll just be Alex. It’s time for a change.
