It's Such A Shame That We Play Strangers

Chapter 1

'Goodbye Alexander, I'm sad to see you go.' My mother said to me. No emotion slipping through the tone of her voice. Her eyes though, showed such a strong emotion. Relief.

'Like fuck you are. I don't think I'll be home for Christmas, I'll see you when I see you.' I replied, picking up my suitcase and walking out the door, slamming it behind me. Off to the airport I go.

That was all I could think about while sitting in this smelly, yellow taxi. It is such a difference to the ones we've got back in England. They are nice and black. My mother thought it would be a great idea to send me to boarding school, in America! I don't know what she was thinking, she isn't the only one suffering with this.

The taxi came to a stop and I looked out the window to my right.

'Here you are kid. It's free of charge.' The taxi driver said, looking at me through the revision mirror. I nodded my head and exited the taxi, pulling my backpack with me. Closing the door, I walked to the trunk and opened it. Pulling my suitcase out, I placed it down next to me and slammed the trunk shut.

As I began to walk towards the big metal gates, I hear the taxi take off. As I looked back to it, I see that across from the school is a lovely lake, yet I get this feeling I will not be going over there any time soon. Not with these big, metal gates stopping me. It's a prison.

'Welcome to Florey College. An all-boys school. Wait, it's a all-boys school. Meaning no girls. God fucking dammit.' I read, then mumbled to myself. I continued to do so until I reached the front office. As I walked into the office I was greeted by a young lady.

'Hi sweetie, how can I help you?' She questioned as she looked over the counter.

'Uh, yeah hi. I am meant to be starting here today. My name is Alex, or it's probably under Alexander. Alexander Gaskarth.' I answered. I looked to her name tag and read the name, Josie.

'Oh yes, here e are. Here is your room number and key. You'll be sharing with one of our most excelling students. Jack Barakat. Your class schedule and everything else is in this booklet. If you can, could you please come back her in an hour so you can have a meeting with principal. Now, I'll just find you a student to help you.' Josie said, handing me everything and then looked out the window of the office.

'Mr Merrick, will you please show Mr Gaskarth to his room?' Josie asked, to a tall, muscly looking guy.

'Sure thing. What room?' He replied.

'Room... 182.' Josie answered, before smiling to me and disappearing behind the desk.

I walked out the office and meet the kid outside. We smiled to each other then he turned around and led the way.

'I'm Zack by the way.' Zack broke the awkward silence that was creeping up.

'Alex. Nice to meet you.' I replied, smiling.

We walked down the hallway again in silence, taking a right before entering a building through double wooden doors.

'So, room 182. You are sharing with Jack. He is very smart, has everything organised and doesn't talk to anyone. I think was because of what happened to Tyler, his last room mate. I don't know what happened as I only started at the start of the year but it was bad. He keeps to himself and doesn't talk to anyone. A mate of mine, Rian and I, we've tried to get him to sit with us and talk but he just ignores us.' Zack explains before we take a left.

'Well, he's going to hate me. I love to talk, and I hope he likes music cause, well, I am not going to sit in silence forever. I think I'd die.' I replied.

'You're not half bad Gaskarth. What have you got first?' Zack questioned. I fiddled with the book with one hand until I found the piece of paper I was looking for.

'Uhh... English..' I said, reading it over a second time. 'Yeah, English.' I confirmed nodding my head.

'With Mr Stark?' Zack questioned. I nodded my head as a reply.

'Well, I'll see you then. My first class also, same with Rian. I'll introduce you guys.' Zack said as we stopped.

'That'd be cool man.' I replied.

'Here we are. 182. Good luck.' Zack said before he began to walk off. I mumbled a thank you.

I grabbed out the key from my pocket and placed it in the lock. I turned the key then removed it. I placed it back into my pocket as I turned the handle. Opening the door, I opened the door to see one side of the room untouched and clean. The other side, was obviously occupied by some one but it looked untouched as it was clean. I sighed as I pulled my suitcase behind me, closing to the door with my foot.

'I guess Jack Barakat isn't in at the moment.' I said to myself as I dropped my suitcase next to my drawers before jumping onto the mattress of my now single bed.

'How am I meant to sleep on this?' I asked myself as I began to stare at the roof, of my room that I'll call home.
