No Faith in Brooklyn

Rhiannon’s Perspective

Besides Zack glaring at me, it was nice hanging out with the guys. It was almost as if no time had passed, but now I didn’t have to pretend to be someone I wasn’t.

At about 11:30, we were all sitting around, talking and laughing, when Alex turned to me abruptly.

“Shit, it’s late. I better get you home.”

I nodded and stood up. I took Alex’s hands, pulling him to his feet.

I hugged everyone goodbye, except for Zack, promising that we’d make plans again, and we headed out, noticing that the air was swirling with snow.

“Shit, it looks like a blizzard’s coming,” Alex commented.

“Are you gonna be okay to drive in this?”

“Of course. I’ll be fine.”

We reached my apartment and he walked me up and left. Five minutes later, my phone rang, the caller ID reading ‘Alex.’

“Miss me already?” I asked when I answered the phone.

Alex laughed bitterly.

“You’re a riot. It’s blizzarding out.”

“I think we established that a few minutes ago.” I snickered.

“...and I was wondering if I could crash at your apartment. I’m exhausted and I don’t know if I can make it home in this shit.”

I paused. Alex had only been back in my life for a couple days, and I was already inviting him into my apartment. But I couldn’t let him drive home if he didn’t feel safe. I knew if I let him drive home in spite of the storm, I’d regret it and spend the rest of the night worrying until I heard that he was home safe and sound.

“Rhiannon?”

“Yeah, I’m still here. Come on up,”

“Great! Thank you so much!” I could hear the relief in his voice.

“No problem. I’ll see you in a few minutes,” I told him and ended the call.

About a minute later, Alex knocked on my door.

“Thanks so much for letting me stay.” He grinned.

“Well, what else was I supposed to do? I couldn’t let you freeze to death out there!” I giggled, taking his coat to put away.

“True.”

“Make yourself at home. Would you like some hot chocolate?”

His brown eyes lit up like a child’s.

“I’ll take that as a yes!” I laughed

I made us both hot chocolate and we settled on the couch to watch a movie because we were bored. I let Alex pick the movie and he chose The Ring, even though he knew I hated horror movies.

In the middle of a scary part, the power went out. I whimpered and I heard Alex chuckle.

“Relax, Rhiannon. It’s just from the storm.” He chuckled.

“How do you know? It could be Samara fucking with us!”

Alex didn’t reply, but I could tell that he was rolling his eyes at me.

“I’m gonna go find some candles,” he told me.

“No, don’t leave me!” I squealed.

He sighed.

“Alright, I’ll stay here.”

He tugged the big blanket from off of the back of the sofa and draped it over us and we sat in silence for a while.

“I’m tired,” Alex whined.

“Well then lie down!” I laughed.

In response, he stretched out on the couch, forcing me to curl up on the end of it around his long, lean legs.

“This is uncomfortable,” I commented.

“C’mere then.”

He grabbed me around the middle and pulled me down so that I was laying on top of him and his arms were around me. I nuzzled my head into his chest.

“Better?” He whispered, his breath moving locks of my hair.

“Mhm.” I was enjoying his warmth, and he smelled like cinnamon and Axe.

“Truth or dare?” I asked.

“Truth.”
“Are you honestly over what I did to you?”

He exhaled. It was so quiet that I became sure that he wouldn’t respond.

“Yes and no. I’m not angry anymore, and I’ve dated other girls since you. But I’m still hurt. I loved you. At least I thought I did.” He paused again and inhaled deeply. “Truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“When did you fall for me?”

“I guess it was at some point after you saved me from that douche bag at your party. Truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“When did you get over me?”

“I haven’t actually,” Alex answered honestly. “Truth or dare?”

“Dare.”

“I dare you to kiss me,” he whispered. I almost didn’t hear him, but it was impossible not to, considering I was on top of him.

I examined his expression, and even in the dark, I could see his deep chestnut eyes boring into my hazel ones, waiting.

I cupped his stubbled cheek in my hand and leaned down, our noses brushing. I hesitated as Alex’s lips parted slightly, his breath washing over my face. I finally closed the distance between us, my lips finally meeting his.

He was slow at first, almost timid. But as our lips molded together, he began to realize that I wasn’t going to break away from him, and kissed me with more intensity. More fervor. More desire.

He traced his tongue over my bottom lip and my lips parted, granting him entry. His tongue traced mine as his long, calloused fingers raked through my hair. His hands lowered to grip my waist and I spread my legs to straddle him.

He pulled the blanket over us as our clothes came off.
