No Faith in Brooklyn

At five o’clock on the dot, Alex buzzed my apartment, so I told him I’d meet him downstairs and took the elevator to the lobby.

When I got to him, his jaw dropped slightly.

“You look amazing,” he whispered.

“Thanks.” I offered him a small smile.

“Shall we?” He gestured to his familiar silver Audi.

I nodded and followed him. To my surprise, he went around to the passenger side and opened my door for me.

“Thanks.” I beamed and got in.

He shut the door and jogged around to the other side and hopped in, starting the ignition and cranking up the heat. He set the radio to a station playing Christmas music, despite the fact that it was January, but I didn’t mind.

I gazed out the window at the passing scenery, resting my elbow beneath the car window and bracing my face in my hand. And then it occurred to me.

“Where are we going?” I asked Alex, turning to face him.

“This diner way out of the way. They have good burgers. Is that okay?” He took his eyes off the road for a second to meet my gaze.

“Sure.”

“Great.” He grinned and focused on the road.

When we got there, the place was pretty empty.

“Table for two?” The hostess asked.

“Yup.” Alex nodded.

“Follow me.” She led us to a booth in the back. “Can I get you some drinks?”

“I’ll have a coffee,” I told her.

“I’ll have the same,” Alex added.

“Okay, the server will bring you those. Enjoy your evening.” The hostess went to take her place at the podium.

We sat in silence until the waitress brought us our coffee and took our orders.

“So what have you been up to?” Alex asked, resting his chin in his hands.

“Not much.”

“Come on, Rhiannon. We both came here tonight because we both wanted to start over.”

“Don’t you remember what I did to you?”

“I do, but I also remember how much I genuinely liked you, and I wanna see if those feelings are still there,” he explained.

“So I’m only a trip down memory lane for you?”

He shook his head.

“No, don’t be like that--”

“Like what? Realistic? Because in reality, we’re supposed to hate each other, so why are you trying to make me like you again?”

“I wasn’t--” He protested, but I put my hand up to stop him and got up from the table and began to walk away, but Alex got up quickly and ran in front of me. “Rhiannon, please, give us another chance,” he whispered, slipping a lock of hair behind my ear.

I huffed out my breath.

“Fine. But as friends.”

“Friends.”

Okay guys, I am so, so sorry that this is so late. I know said I'd finish over Christmas break, but I got writer's block, and second semester was so crazy and weird. But I've been home from college for the summer for a little over two months and I promised myself I'd finish this so I could get the complete chapters out to you guys. And I did finish! This story has 18 chapters in total and a fuckload of drama so fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!

How often I update will depend on the feedback I get. I want to update at least once a week, possibly more if I get a good response.
