A Little Therapy

Long Live the Reckless and the Brave.

“So…these dates, do they have to be with different people?” Again with the long thin stick placed precariously between nimble fingers that often met guitar strings, it was a common trait as either boys were never seen without one or the other. Slow clouds of toxic air swirling towards the sky in hope to meet the stars one day, traipsing from the parting of his soft and chapped lips.

“No, they can be with the same person, I guess,” The shrug of shoulders and scratching hands attempting to hold the cancer stick. The only way they ever shared was between the two of them, no one else. “It’s just sexless dates,”

“Damn man, this is gonna be painful for both of us,” he groaned. Pure agony was displayed on his face for the sealed fate and pain he had yet to feel. In his head he wondered how on Earth Kellin Quinn, the sluttiest boy he knew, would manage to live his life without sex, and then he also remembered that masturbation wasn’t banned.

“I’ll manage,” The charcoal headed boy chuckled, passing his own cigarette pass his pastel pale lips and leaning against the truck hood. “How will we know the other hasn’t cheated though?” He muttered finally. “I didn’t think this through,” Alex looked up through his bangs and let out a strangled laugh, eyes closing as his head tilted back against the door frame.

“Please, the moment we bang anyone, everyone knows,” Sometimes it was beautiful to look on a teenager’s life as poetic or beautiful, when they were nothing but vulgar; yet Alex still watched the swirls of toxins float higher into the sky until they could dance no more. In his head he thought he wished to be the cigarette smoke, only to remember he couldn’t get any more toxic.

“So after Levi got booted, we have a new kid, so whattaya say? We gonna give him a proper Nirvana Springs welcome?” The ends fell to the floor, still glowing and gasping and fighting for air, but they burnt out…like everything else here. The caramel coloured teen flicked his hair out of his soft orbs and gave a crude smile that didn’t match the warmth of his eyes.

“I thought you said no sex,” the two burst into laughter as the truck doors slammed shut and they made their way into school, thick leather boots clanging against the floor and chains on denim rattling like the bones of a ghast. There was a definite silence when they passed, a look of shared awe and surprise, sometimes even terror, it was an unwritten rule that the silent legacy these two boys carried would constantly remain unquestioned. Not even the boys themselves knew of how much they were revered as troublemakers, filling out the dares that no one else could.

Alex was mostly the quiet one, the brains that sketched everything out from top to bottom without even needing to consult help. He was the mole underground, trapped in the need to escape the shitty town of Maryland. Instead of broadcasting his name to the entirety of school (specifically teachers) he gave that too the boy who already had his future sorted as the frontman of a band and son of a wealthy family.

Kellin was unique in his own way, pulling off a gothic hipster look with beanies and converse and leather and chains. With eyes that danced with a form of playful malice and fierce mischief, he stood proudly and pulled every trick he could find. Taking all of Alex’s ingenious and shoving them in to the world without hesitation. Whilst the hallways cleared for them, whispers arose like flames licking the inside of a petrol tank, louder and higher, faster and faster, their names inter-weaved with gossip sentences. “Kellin Quinn,” and “Alex Gaskarth,”
Enter the new boy, cheeks stained red from the awkward walking that led to him falling into people he’d never met. Today his name was being spoken over and over again. “Jack…something right?” He looked up to find an awkward boy with little hair and wide eyes staring at him. “I’m Rian, I'm your mentor,” The boy with mussed ebony hair took a step back too asses the newcomer, as if afraid he might explode before timidly shaking the hand offered.

“Hi,” His voice, scratchy and out of practice, whispered against the wind in a way that caused the messy haired lad too strain his ears. He scratched his head and flushed the colour of bloody sunset. “I-I’m lost,” He finally muttered, admitting in solid defeat that he had been wandering the empty halls since half seven that morning, leaving Rian to giggle at his misfortune. For a second, Jack was confused and embarrassed, before realising that his mentor wasn't laughing at him.

“Come on, I get lost all the time, I’m the worst possible candidate for this, but I’ll help you find the main office,” The russet eyed boy smiled gratefully, wanting to ask how he found him, but in fear of more stuttered embarrassment, he kept silent and walked beside the boy talking animatedly beside him. Suddenly, all went quiet, forcing the new boy too look up and stare into the eyes of two boys walking passed. All eyes were on the two, every chocolate caramel or cerulean orbs were trained on them, pupils dilated and breath shortened, before they continued down the hall and all returned to normal.

“That’s Jack and Kellin, they’re the ones too look to if a fire starts, they cause most of the havoc, I mean I doubt even they understand why so many people like them, I certainly don’t, Kellin’s a jackass and all Alex ever does is smoke and shout,” But he never got a reply, never expected one either as the new boy and the old student traipsed into the office too pick up the time table.

“He’s cute,”

“No sex remember?”

Kellin groaned and leaned back in his chair, the strands of charcoal falling back as his chin tilted up, forcing the light to glimmer off of his sharp jawline. “Why did I ever even make this bet?” He sighed suddenly itching for smoke in his mouth and pressure on his skin; in fact even the mere thought of the long year ahead made him want to take everything back. But he was Kellin Quinn, he never went back on a dare, especially his own.

“Because you’re an asshole and I’m stuck in it with you, but I’m getting the first date out of him, I bet you,” His taller counterpart grinned, flipping out his phone too scroll through his Facebook. “That’s for sure; you don’t deal well with straight guys,”

Kellin groaned, he never questioned how Alex found it so easy to tell which guy was gay and which was straight, but he was usually right, so now he had to aim for some desperate whore who was all too eager to throw himself at him whilst he had to resist her. How about no. “You know what, I sense a challenge, and a challenge it shall be,”

So the school year starts with a hot guy and two of the school’s biggest crones attempting to seduce him…without seducing him. Welcome to Nirvana Springs.
