A Love Like War

"Having fun?" I asked Alex.
"I'm murdering bitches, what do you think?" He asked back, unfazed, not bothering to look at me.
"Taylor will be home in a little while. Wanna help me make her some dinner? She'd love it if we actually cooked for her," I smiled.
"Absolutely," Alex replied, instantly dropping the controller and shutting off the power. "What's on the menu? Us, I hope."
I frowned, "You sure are into Taylor, aren't you?"
"I'm just messing around, boo," he teased, giving me a light peck on the lips. "So what're we making our lady?"
"Teryaki Steak with grilled pineapple."
"Yum, sides?"
"Mexican corn, scalloped cheesy potatoes and green beans with bacon."
"Holy fuck, babe. My mouth is watering. Stop talking. Let's cook. Wait, dessert?"
"Hmm," I lifted a hand to my chin. "You know, I hadn't even thought of dessert. You wanna handle that?"
Alex's eyes lit up, "Hell yeah!"
"Then let's get to it."
By midnight or a little after, the meal was completely done when Taylor walked through the door.
"Mmm, do I smell chocolate chip cookies?"
Alex glowed at the sound of her approval.
"Mmm, and Teryaki, what have you two been doing?" Taylor walked in and pulled her jacket off, "You guys learned to cook. Oh my god. I think I'm gonna faint," She joked.
"Haha, very funny," I laughed. "Alex and I made your favorite, with all your favorites."
"I see that," She smiled, "Oh this was so sweet of you two," she sat down at the table and cut right into her steak. "Mmmmm, Medium rare?"
"Just the way you like it, doll. Happy Anniversary, baby," I leaned over and planted a kiss on her beautiful porcelain face.
"Holy crap, I'd gotten so flustered at work, I'd almost forgotten. Goddamn Stry--, I mean, Happy Anniversary boobear."
"Stryder?" I demanded. "What the fuck was Stryder doing there, Taylor? Cowboys don't get tattoos."
"He wanted a pin-up Mage back piece and he specifically asked for it to be done by my hand," she explained.
"Of course he did, that fucking prick."
"Who's Stryder?" Alex asked nonchalantly, piling grilled pinapples on top of his fork.
"He's nobody," Taylor waved him off.
"He's Taylor's ex. And he never leaves her alone. Every time we have a slight break in our relationship, he comes after her, hoping she's gonna give him some. But my Taylor's a good girl. Loyal as fuck, right, Tay?"
Taylor shifted in her seat. "Right. A-Absolutely, babe," she stammered.
"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah," she replied, "I just really hate him."I haven't been an attentive boyfriend. I'd lost my touch and usually something like this would never phase me, but it was Taylor and she was my special girl.
"Please, babygirl. We need to talk."
Taylor's eyes went into panic mode, "What's wrong? Did I do something wrong?"
"No, baby, no," I calmed her, pulling her into the bedroom. "We'll talk in a minute. I've got a couple things for you." I walked to my closet and took down two boxes. Taylor sat slightly confused on the bed. "I know you're not one for regular jewelry, so I got you something more your taste."
Taylor opened the first box, a gold plated bud leaf belly ring. "Can I put it on now?!" She asked in a joyus tone.
"Of course my love," I replied.
She smiled warmly at me before lifting her shirt to reveal her belly.
"Lift the cushion," I said.
She lifted it to find a QP of the greenest chronic I could find. She gasped, "You're incredible, babe," she said, opening the bag to smell it. I didn't smoke, and she didn't to make me happy. But It was time to make her happy. I'm happy enough.
"I also got you these," I said, holding out the other box, whilst she changed out her rings. "I know you've been wanting them for awhile now."
Taylor opened the box and her jaw almost hit the floor, "Genuine Diamond Ben Wa Balls?!"

"But, how did you...? How could you afford these, Jack?" Taylor asked in disbelief.

"But why'd you choose these?" She asked confused.

She tried taking off her shirt, but I grabbed her hands, "No," I shook my head. "Let me."
Taylor nodded and I pulled off her shirt, revealing her gray and blue laced bra, my favorite one, I mused. I leaned down again and kissed her as I unclasped it from behind.

I sighed, regretting my decision to wait to tell her, "I didn't know I was getting ready to go. Yesterday, or the day before rather, when I 'went' to Blizzard. I went to the Marine offices, instead."
"What about Diablo III?"
"I just bought a copy. It had already come out."
"Oh.." She looked down.
"Alex doesn't know yet, I'm telling him tomorrow. I leave the day after. I'm gonna miss you both so much."
Taylor shook her head back from tears.
"Taylor... baby.."
"Goodnight, Jack," she said slamming the door behind her.
