Oh Calamity!

The next few weeks went by, Alex took the password off my computer first then gave me my phone back, but I didn’t use it much anymore. We got back into a routine, they picked me up and took me to recording, I did my homework and played guitar with them a lot, and Jack and I talked a lot more. Soon they were finished recording and I was back to playing with Jack in the house talking. Then I received my report card, I froze looking at it, I had to get it signed and it was all Cs one B and one D I was going to get killed, when I got in I went straight to my room, Alex checked in on me, I lied saying I had a lot of work and didn’t want to be distracted, after an hour Jack came up
“Hey”
“Hey I’m busy” I said drawing
“You are drawing that’s fun not work” he said walking over and kneeling down next to my desk, I didn’t look at him and kept drawing
“what’s up?” he smiled, I shook my head and kept working, he pulled my chair back and stood in front of me making me look at him
“Jack I’m busy!” I said annoyed, he didn’t move he just raised an eyebrow
“you are not working you are hiding, I can tell now you going to tell me or should I go get Alex?” he asked, he couldn’t do that then Alex would know I was going to hide it and I would be in so much more trouble, I shook my head looking down, I sighed and grabbed my bag handing him my report card, looking ashamed.
“What’s wrong with this?” he asked
“My mum wouldn’t have been happy if I handed her this” I said knowing someone would say it
“He will be expecting A’s, I couldn’t get my grades up in time” I said worried
“ash he will be expecting worse because of what happened, you are being too hard on yourself, he said he wasn’t going to get mad for what already happened, stop being silly and go give him it so you can calm down” Jack said gently, when I didn’t move he pulled me up and pushed me towards the door, I laughed and walked on my own.
“Hey you done?” Alex asked, I nodded
“What’s up?” he asked I sighed, and handed the report card without saying anything, he looked confused and read it, then signed it
“There you go” he smiled, I still didn’t look at him
“What’s up?”
“It’s bad” I said quietly
“You got 1 d, the rest are fine, and you even got a b! It’s better than we ever got” he smiled, jack laughed nodding in agreement,
“I never get D’s, or C’s”
“Ash its fine, you struggled you recovered, you’re fine, calm down” I didn’t answer, he sighed “ash there is nothing to worry about”
“But they are bad grades” I complained
“ash you struggled, you would have done better if you hadn’t stopped working, but you are back on track so its fine, did you speak to your teachers?” he asked knowing I would have, I shrugged my shoulders, he smiled “so yes what did they say?” he asked I didn’t answer “ash?” he smiled
“Fine I probably would have gotten at least B’s”
“What about the D?” he asked
“He wanted to give me an F for not handing in so much on time, so he marked me down, he’s apparently allowed to do that”
“What would you have gotten?”
“He wouldn’t say” I huffed
“What were your normal grades?”
“A or B before but I was getting Cs and one or 2 D’s after, I was working hard but he kept giving me worse marks” I sighed
“Ash everyone gets a teacher like that, calm down and stop worrying!” Alex said hugging me, we talked a little more until Jack asked me to play guitar, I looked to Alex since he was talking the most
“Go on” he smiled, I followed him up and we played Jack taught me more songs, until we were both just messing with the guitars rather than playing,
“So you’re still not happy”
“No, I should have gotten my grades back up”
“You are working at that grade so that’s all that matters, stop being so hard on yourself”
“I’m not”
“Ash you always are, so calm down and stop it” he laughed
“Fine” I said feeling better. Eventually we went back down to talk to Alex,
“Ash I need to tell you something”
“What?” I asked nervous
“Erm, I have a date tomorrow night” he said embarrassed, he was looking down and shuffling I realised how obvious I must be,
“Ok” I said unsure why he made a big deal about it
“It doesn’t bother you?”
“No why would it?” I laughed
“Told you” Jack smirked
“Jacks going to look after you too”
“I don’t need a babysitter”
“Ashleigh, stop it yes you do” Alex said seriously, I sighed
“Fine”
“I would be here anyway” Jack laughed
The next day Alex was getting ready while I watched TV until jack came home,
“Is Alex nearly ready?” he asked
“I don’t know”
“I will go see” he said running up the stairs
“Jack man” Alex shouted laughing, he ran down the stairs
“I thought he would be ready”
“Is he not?”
“No his hair isn’t even done, he probably hasn’t picked out an outfit yet” I rolled my eyes, then heard the hair dryer,
“You knew he wouldn’t be didn’t you?” I asked laughing
“I guessed but it makes him hurry up” he grinned,
“Leave him alone he’s nervous”
“Aww being the protective niece are we?”
“Makes a change to the over protective uncle” I mumbled, he heard and laughed,
“Maybe, but I wouldn’t say he was over protective” he said making me blush I didn’t think he would hear “yes I heard” he said smirking
“You aren’t as quiet and sneaky as you think” he laughed “I however am, so beware”
“Oh shut up” the hair drier was off, I knew he would be straightening his hair now,
“You feel weird about being here without Alex?” he asked, I shrugged my shoulders,
“So yes, just let me know I will try to help ok?” I nodded, I knew it would be when I was trying to get to sleep it would be the worst so I nodded knowing he wouldn’t be there,
“Even in the night” he said seriously,
“Fine, I will be ok” I lied
“I will be keeping an eye on you, just let me know ok” he smiled I nodded knowing nothing else would shut him up. Soon Alex came down so he shut up
“You’re wearing that?” I asked worried, he was in his oldest jeans and a stained old t shirt,
“No I need a top ironed” Alex said getting the iron out,
“Good” I laughed,
“Thanks for the vote of confidence” he laughed “so are you going to be ok tonight”
“Yes!” I said sick of being asked
“Whoa? Calm down is there any need? Wait Jack has been asking you hasn’t he?” Alex said looking worried
“Everything is going to be fine, stop worrying, he just over thinks”
“Jack?” Alex asked, I could see Jack thinking about lying to make him go but he wouldn’t lie about me
“She will be fine, if she does have any problems I will be here, I will keep an eye on her and look after her you have nothing to worry about” Jack said honestly,
“I will be fine ok, go on your date, stop worrying and have fun!” I said honestly
“Fine but call me if you need me”
“I won’t”
“But”
“Alex no, I have Jack if I need anything, he will annoy me into telling him if I need anyone better than anyone else” Jack looked happy but Alex looked like he was still debating
“Alex go upstairs and go get changed!” I said pointing up stairs making him laugh, he sighed and walked up,
“You sure you’re going to be ok?”
“Yes for god sake!” I said, he walked into his room, I went back down and jack was setting up the Xbox and DVDs for tonight,
“Do you have any DVD’s you want to watch for our film night?”
“Oh I will go grab some” I said happy
“No twilight rubbish!”
“Shut up” I shouted as I came out of my room Alex came out
“Much better” I laughed
“Thank you” he smiled, his hair looked good, and he was wearing a tight black t shirt and his grey skinny jeans, we walked down, he put his converse on
“Ok don’t be too cheeky to Jack, call me if you need me and have fun” Alex said hugging me
“You have fun too, good luck” I smiled and kissed his cheek,
“Jack keep an eye on her” Alex laughed
