Don't Forget Me

A Familiar Face

With my errands complete, I drove over to Jack's house to pick up some guitar strings and chill for a bit. Jack is a pretty cool dude, him and I met almost two years at one of Laney's first gigs. He and his girlfriend became really good friends with Laney and I and we started hanging out ever since.

I knocked on their door and his girlfriend Rebecca answered the door.
"Alex! What's up?" Rebecca smiled and we both hugged one another.
"Hey, Rebecca! Just coming over to chill and get some guitar strings from Jack. Where is he?"
"He's just went next door for something, he'll be back any moment!"
Sure enough, a moment later, Jack walks through the door, happy and giddy as usual.
"Hey dude! How goes it?" Jack gives me a hug and Rebecca comes in with some food for us.
"Nothing much, just stopping by to chill and to get those strings!"
"Oh yeah! Lemme grab them!" Jack walks to the other room as Rebecca sits down on the adjacent couch and offers me some chips and Pepsi.
"So Alex, how've you been?" Rebecca asked as she opens a can of Pepsi.
I went for some chips and a Pepsi. "Um...I've been hanging in there. You know...still trying to find Delaney."
"Yeah, that's gotta be tough on you right now, it's been five months if I'm not mistaken?"
"Yup," I said as I take a sip of my drink. "I hope to find her soon...after all, we're still technically engaged so the wedding will go on if she's found."
"Well, I believe that she'll be found soon enough. You guys were so excited for that wedding and you deserve it."
"Thanks, Becca," I said and smiled. Jack walks back in with the strings and sits right beside me.
"Here you are, bro! I hope these will last you!"
"Yeah me, too! Those ones I first had didn't even last me two weeks!"

I sat with them for a while and just talked and actually got a good laugh or two out of my system, something I couldn't do for the last five months.
It was now 9:15 and getting kind of late. I decided to head home and that I told Jack and Rebecca that we'll get together again with Zack, myself, and them. I get into my car, I got that vibe again as usual, and waited until it passed.

I was about a mile away from Jack's now and I was passing through another neighborhood. It was a nice neighborhood, street lamps lined the sidewalks, stores with their lights shining through the window, it was a decent neighborhood. I stopped at a red light and I see a girl walking in the distance. I didn't pay too much attention and just disregarded her at first. Something then told me to look again and I did. She had brown hair, just like Delaney. It was wavy and beautiful, again, just like Delaney's hair. She was wearing shorts, a tank top, and flip flops. I got a closer look as she walked towards the intersection. I noticed a tattoo wrapped around the bottom part of her leg. I thought back to when Delaney got a tattoo as well. She always wanted one and I took her to get it done. I held her hand the either time as she cried from the pain.
Delaney also has the same tattoo as this girl and has similar hair as well.
I sat there and then my eyes widen and my jaw dropped
But...it can't be.
It is?
She crosses the street but I saw the light turn green as she's in the middle of crossing and I don't know why but my foot acted before my brain and I proceeded to go before she finished crossing.
"DELANEY!" I shouted out the window. She looked up and screamed and I then realized what I was doing and I screamed as well.
I slammed on the brakes and the screech of the tires deafened our screams.
