Heaven Can Wait

Caitlyn’s Perspective

It was a Friday night and my best friend Angela was over my house. We were laying on the floor, staring up at the giant flat screen in my room, which was playing All Time Low’s Straight to DVD.

“I JUST WANNA FUCK THIS BURRITO!” we yelled in unison as Jack did.

I took a bite out of my pizza.

“Wouldn’t it be amazing to hang out with them?” I asked.

“You mean impossible?” Angela quipped.

“Come on, Angie. All it takes is meeting them, and then boom, they fall in love with you!” I explained.

“You’re crazy.” She laughed.

“No, I just like to dream big!”

“Same thing.” She giggled and hit me with one of my pillows.

--

The next morning, I skipped out to the mailbox, arm in arm with Angela, hoping that today would be the day that our Warped Tour tickets came in the mail.

“Yes!” I cried when I saw the envelope.

I tucked it under my arm and we skipped back into the house. When we were back in my room, I tore open the envelope.

“June sixteenth, Utah State Fairpark,” I read aloud as Angela grinned at me.

--

It was June fifteenth, the day before our Warped, also the last day of sophomore year. Since finals were finished, we were just hanging out and playing UNO. I groaned and threw my cards on the floor.

“I’m out,” I said to no one in particular, and handed my cards to my friend Josh.

“You bitch, I was so close to getting UNO!” He yelled.

“Oh well, not my problem,” I said, taking Angie’s hand as we walked around the halls of the school.

“Ugh, only one more day in this dump,” I said.

“And then two more years,” she added.

“Maybe for you!” I laughed.

“You’re not seriously dropping out, are you?” She asked.

“Well, I’m sixteen, and my parents don’t care.”“You’re insane!”

“Come on, Angie. Haven’t you always dreamed of seeing the world?” I asked.

“Well yeah, but I always figured that the world would still be there when I finished school.”

“Angie, you gotta dream big!”

“Well, what did you have in mind?” She asked.

“We should follow All Time Low on Warped this summer!” I suggested.

“Come on, Cait, that’s crazy. It’d be so expensive, plus wouldn’t our parents miss us?” She asked skeptically.

“Who cares about parents when you can go on the adventure of a lifetime!”

“The ticket prices though. And gas. And food.”

“Ugh, don’t you remember? I got like a thousand bucks for my sweet sixteen!”

“Do you really think your parents would like it if you spent the money on following a band on tour around the country?” She asked.

“Ugh, you worry too much. Let’s just do it!”

She sighed.

“You’re right.”

“Of course I am!” I smirked.
