Sometimes, The Sickness is The Cure

Monday Morning

Leaning now, into the breeze
Remembering Sunday, He falls to his knees...

Jack immediately stood up, one hand on his head and the other wiping the tears he'd been
shedding. This was definitely the worse hang over he'd ever experienced in his life. Considering the fact that he'd been intoxicated for over a week. The tears began to flow once more as his mind began to fill up of memories of that Sunday evening the previous week.

He'd been walking home from work, his car had broken down about a few days ago so he had no other way of transportation. Transit buses just weren't his thing, and just the thought of riding a taxi burned his pocket. Plus. it wasn't like his apartment was too far from his favorite music store, which happened to be his employer. During his walk, he casually turned his head to the other side of the street to catch a glimpse of the night life at Stella's Bookstore Café. He instantly regretted that decision. There she was. Sitting, giggling, taking a drink of what seemed to be her favorite iced coffee Jack used to buy her. She was clearly having a great time with people who were unfamiliar to Jack. Her medium, blonde hair was now long and brown, but her unforgettable smile was what made her recognizable to the dark haired man. Once he caught himself staring right at her, he began to walk once again. Then after walking just a few feet away from where he once stood, at gentle tap on his shoulder made him turn around to see her again.

Lisa, his former girlfriend. They'd been dating for at least two years when their relationship ended. She was pursuing an acting career and found herself moving to Manhattan to study. She thought that she and Jack wouldn't be able to date once she moved. She didn't want to carry the burden of loving someone whole lived all the way in Baltimore. She wanted Jack to move on, because she was moving on. She loved Jack, yes she loved him very much. But it would be unbearable to be so far away from him. She couldn't help but break it up.

Yet, Jack wasn't hurt by the fact that she was moving. No, Jack was hurt because she betrayed him. What happened to the We'll be together forever, right Jack? and the I'll never leave you no matter what. Those promises, those god dammed words were what hurt Jack the most. He was promised to be loved by the girl whom he loved. Forever if possible, no matter what the consequence. Yet, she couldn't. She couldn't love him forever if possible, no matter what the consequence. She left him, left him for her future. Without any hope, without any glimpse of sheer hope. Jack was devastated. He'd never felt so betrayed in his life. Did my fucking love even mean anything to her?

"Jack, it's been a while," She said with that unforgettable smile of her's.
"Yeah, it has." He replied, battling himself from just pulling her in for a kiss.
He still loved her.
"I've missed you," She whispered, caressing his cheek.
"Same," He said emotionless.
He walked away after that.

He still might love Lisa, but he'll never forget what she did to him. All the pain she caused him. The inner torment, the suicidal thoughts and the lack of love. He couldn't bare to see her again after that night. What the fuck is she doing in Baltimore again after five god dammed years? What happened to all her life goals? Did she achieve them? Was she coming back for me?

No.

She wasn't.

Because, he only saw her by sheer coincidence. If it hadn't been for his car breaking down he would've never seen her. If she was coming back for him, she would've been looking for him in desperation. Not hanging out with her friends at the fucking café that she and Jack would have
most of their dates at. Did those two years mean anything to her? Did I mean anything to her?

After walking away, he walked in the opposite direction. On his way to a local bar. A bar he'd frequent during his depressive mood, Drowning himself in alcohol seemed to always be the cure to his depression. He'd forget everything. Or at least not think about it. He'd probably even get laid if he was lucky. Of course after losing Lisa, Jack couldn't find himself being in another relationship. Not only did he fall in love with Lisa, but he was afraid. He was afraid of falling in love once again, then being betrayed. But, who isn't scared of falling in love? How was he any different? Fuck that, he didn't need love. All he needed was whiskey and his favorite album Enema Of The State by Blink-182.

He entered the pub, only to see some middle-aged men playing poker with two or three sluts wrapped around them like snakes. Slowly reaching for the money when no one was looking. He also saw some younger girls, dressed skimpy, waiting for a hot guy to come in by himself to get laid. Oh wait, that was Jack. But no, not tonight. He didn't feel like getting laid. He felt like drinking. That was it. After seeing Lisa, the last thing he needed was being touched by another girl. He sat on the bar stool, farthest to the right of the bar. The darkest side of the pub where he could tear up or maybe even cry in silence where no one could see him. After the bartender took his order he waited patiently. Still thinking about that god dammed Lisa. Her beautiful eyes and her breathless smile, her soft lips that he would never be able to taste again.

He began to feel his eyes water until a light in the middle of the bar went on. Right next to Jack was a small stage. Just a small piece of the floor elevated a few inches from the rest to be exact. It was the first time he'd actually noticed the small stage. Just after the bartender served him his first round of shots, a man, looking about Jack's age walked on the stage with an acoustic guitar in hand.

"Hi! I'm Alex, um, this is my first time so um, be nice to me."

Who the fuck is this?

The guy named Alex hummed something and plucked a string or two before he began to pick the first notes to a song that was unfamiliar. It sounded pleasant. After Jack took his first shot the man began to sing.

Lipstick has a way of leaving more than just a mark on my sheets,
Coloring my senses
cherry red; at least for this week...
Kisses under starry night skies,
talked about in song,
We play along,
so bitter sweet by our design.
I'm sick and tired of writing songs about you,
This is it, this is the end...

Jack took a second shot as he began to really pay attention to the lyrics of this boy's song. It sounded pretty original. Definitely something Jack had never heard before. The man's voice wasn't too bad either. He had a sweet singing voice, that appealed to Jack. Something Jack would love to play guitar right next to. Of course, Jack hadn't touched a guitar in such a long time. The last time he did was when he was on a date with Lisa. He was playing her some songs, while they were having a picnic. His favorite sandwiches that only Lisa knew how to make, a fruit salad, and grape flavored Kool-Aid.

It was perfect.

But all of that was gone now. The only thing Jack had left was his guitar. He detested playing it after they'd broken up. She'd ruined it for him.

She gets what she wants
and she breaks what she gets.
Get out while you can
or she'll tear you to pieces.

She ruined Jack.

Are you having a good time, sweetheart?

I KNOW, I know The one dating Lisa is Alex. But Lisa just seemed to fit the description for the ex girlfriend I wanted Jack to have. It'd be easier to give you guys a visual of her. I love Lisa, she's so adorable,
Anyway, hope you guys like it~

Don't worry, sincerely I prefer read a good chapter after a while than a shitty one immediately (if that even makes sense, I'm sorry but I'm tired so my mind is pretty fucked up). And I hope the things you're going through will work out :)
