Therapy

Forty Three

The next morning, Paige woke up next to Zack and reaching over, she gave him a gentle kiss on his temple. She smiled as she carefully slipped out of bed, making sure not to wake him up. In just a loose-fitting vest and short pyjama shorts, she tip-toed over to the dressing table in their bedroom and picked up her handbag. With the handbag under her control and clutched tight to her chest, she scurried out of the room like a thief in the night and headed for the bathroom across the corridor.

She entered the bathroom and locked the door, seeming to be the story of her life. Locking every door she came across, locking everyone out. She didn't want it to be that way, but for just a little while longer, it had to be. Paige opened her bag and walked towards the counter, placing it down quietly and rummaging through it. There she found it.

The unpacked box from yesterday.

She prised open the cardboard box and pulled out the information leaflet, re-reading the information that she had already read a million times before. But she needed to make sure, right?

She pulled out one of the packets from the box and walked over to the toilet, and quietly ripping open the packaging, sat down.

Placing the pregnancy test down on the counter once again, a sense of deja-vu came to Paige and a wave of sickness washed over her. She made a dash for the toilet and vomited, luckily she hadn't eaten yet. Or it would have been an extra unpleasant experience. Paige flushed the toilet and put the lid down, sitting on it and wondering just how long it had been. She'd forgotten to bring her phone this time, and there wasn't a clock in the bathroom. Instead, she decided to sing a song inside her head. Considering the average length time of a song was three to four minutes.. that would be more than long enough.

Paige sat quietly, bobbing her head in time to the song she was secretly playing. But even that seemed to be going on forever and she felt like a little child waiting for Christmas Day. But soon enough, the song finished and she walked over to the counter, closing her eyes when she reached it.

She took in a deep breath and let it out, reaching out for the pregnancy test and holding it in her hand, twirling it round whilst hesitating to look.

After a few seconds of hesitation, she found the courage to turn it the right way round, gasping when she looked at the display.

Two.

Two lines.

Two red lines.

Two bright red lines.

Two bright red lines, staring her in the face, stating that she was pregnant. She tried to suppress the squeal but failed as she jumped around the bathroom in a fit of ecstasy. She reached for her bag, pulling out another pregnancy test, the remaining one from the previous packet. She looked at the two tests together, crying with happiness as they both showed off those two precious red lines.

Paige thought back to the other day. The day she took the first test. She thought of what time she had taken the test.

Late afternoon.

She thought of what she had eaten and had to drink that day.

She hadn't eaten a lot because she had been filling herself up on water.

Water. Diluting the urine sample that she'd given for the test, producing a single red line.

She thought back to the previous morning, when she had sneaked out of the bedroom and to the bathroom, taking the remaining pregnancy test with her, convinced it would be negative. The first urine sample of the day and the test had produced two lines, but she didn't know whether or not to believe it. So she convinced Bella to take her out and tricked her into thinking she just needed some things, "retail therapy" she had said.

And now, here she was, standing with a test in her hands, that screamed positive.

Paige put the tests back in her handbag and made her way back to the bedroom. Walking in, she saw that Zack was stirring so she quickly put her handbag back on the dressing table before he noticed, and walked over to him, sitting on top of his half naked body.

"Baby.." she whispered carefully.

Comments

I just read this story and its prequel and sincerely loved them both. You're an amazing writer, and these stories dealt with a lot of emotions, ranging from sad to loving and I just really enjoyed them both. You captured both of these themes really well. It took me a few chapters to get into the first story, but once I did, I was hooked and just kept reading until I finished this one. All within... two days I believe, I just couldn't stop reading it.
Even though it's been a few years since you've posted them, I just thought I would leave a comment and let you know I really enjoyed them. Great job with them. Just wanted to show people like me are still stumbling across them and enjoying them. <3
I'm bummed to see you haven't written anything else; if you ever choose to one day, let me know and I will for sure read what you have. You're a very talented writer and I would love to read more of your writing. No pressure though, lol.
