My Only One (Jalex)

I Never Want To Let You Go

Alex's POV:

I had nothing else to do for the rest of the day. To say I was relieved about the income would be an understatement. I knew something was wrong when Vic called me that early in the morning. I'm glad I didn't freak out too. I'm glad that it's all over now, and I'm glad that Jack and I are finally out of the danger.

Today's events had taught me not to become complacent about things. I thought that Jack and I would be fine and no one would even suspect a thing, it had been that way for just over 6 months so why should it change any time soon? That's what I thought anyway but it turned out to be wrong. This was a close call and it could've landed both Jack and I in a lot of trouble. It just made me value Jack even more than I did. I had to prove how much he means to me.

I text Jack, letting him know that I've popped out at lunch time to run some errands. He knew he'd have to stay with Vic for the rest of the day so it wasn't like he was expecting me anyway. I ran through the drizzle that had started to fall and jumped into my car, driving towards the mall. Once I'd arrived and parked, I quickly made my way towards the jewellery store. I was faced with loads of silver and gold sparkly things that didn't really interest me.
"Excuse me, but can I help you, Sir?"
I spun around to see a middle aged man dressed in a smart suit, his grey hair balding slightly.
"Yeah, actually. Do you happen to have promise rings for men?"
"Of course, right this way."
The man led me to a less sparkly section. Many different bands of different colours, shapes and designs were all laid out on several trays. They all looked nice but none really stood out.
"Can I ask what the person you're buying for likes?"
"He's a lot like me in the way that he's into heavier music so the more delicate ones he wouldn't really like. He wears a lot of black so I'm guessing a darker coloured one would suit him best. He's not into diamonds really, although he does have one in his ear so I guess one won't hurt."
"I think I've got just the one. Hang on, let me go and get it from out of the store. It only came in yesterday."
"Okay, thank you."

From across the shop, I could hear a happy couple, obviously choosing their wedding rings together. The woman had just let out a squeal. She was admiring a ring on her fingers, he eyes wide and her face holding nothing but happiness. It made me wonder if that would be Jack and I one day, choosing our rings together, drawing the attention of the entire shop whilst we were at it. I wanted to marry Jack at some point in the future, not right now, but definitely in the future. I just had this feeling that he was the one for me. He made me the happiest I'd ever been and I was truly thankful for that.
"Sir? If you'd like to follow me, I can show you the ring."
"Oh, yeah, okay."
I followed the man over to a glass counter, him being behind it, obviously. He placed a mat on top of the glass and placed a small grey box on top of it. He opened it and pulled out the most perfect ring for Jack ever. It was a matt grey band with two black bands on either side. There was no stones on it, no fancy detailing or patterns. It was just plain yet it was so...Jack. It suited him down to a tee and I was sure that it was the one for him.
"That's amazing."
"It is. It's pretty plain too, which not many people like, but from what you said, it would suit him perfectly."
"It really will, it's so awesome. I'll take it."
"That's great. It's a little pricey, I'm afraid."
"That's okay, he's worth it."
"He's very lucky. That'll be $399.99"
I handed over my card and entered the necessary details whilst the man wrapped the ring up in grey tissue paper and put it in a bag.
"There you go, Sir. Have a lovely day."
"Thanks, you too."
I looked at my watch and saw that I had fifteen minutes left before I had to leave to get back to the school in time for last lesson to start. I called in at the florists in the mall on the way back to my car and bought a single red rose. I'd already started to mentally plan out this evening.

-

The end of the school day had rolled around and my plan was starting to get into action. I text Vic and asked him to print of the invitation I'd made for Jack and for him to give it to him.

Jack,
Don't come to my office after school because I won't be there.
Come home in the car you came in this morning but DON'T come in till 5pm, Vic has offered to let you stay with him at school for a little while longer so you're not wandering around but it's up to you.

I want to treat you to a nice dinner and a little celebration to celebrate the past events, both shitty and good.
See you around 5pm, Jay.

I love you,
Alex xoxo

I rushed out of the school as soon as 3pm rolled around and drove home. I called in at the food store on the way home to buy the ingredients that I needed to make pizza. I'd already printed off a recipe off the internet so it should all go to plan. I'm not the greatest cook but I do know how to follow instructions so surely that'll help, right? I hope so. I arrived at home within half an hour and set straight to work, apparently the dough has to prove or something? I don't even know what that means. I set to work on the pizza dough, kneading it for what seemed like hours. By the time the topping was on the pizza and it was in the oven, I only had half an hour to get everything else ready.

I ran upstairs to get changed and to rid my hair of any flour that may have made its way into my controlled mess of a hair style. I put on my best red button up and rolled the sleeves up. I restyled my hair so it looked as close to perfect as I could possibly get it. I could start to smell the pizza in the oven so I ran down stairs to save it before it was completely incinerated. I'd managed to save it just in time, the toppings just starting to crisp up. I turned the oven off and left it in there to keep it warm. There was only ten minutes before Jack was due to come home, leaving me just enough time to set the table. I draped a black table cloth over the table and placed two place mats facing each other. Grabbing two wine glasses and a bottle of my favourite wine, I finished the table off with the drink and the single rose on the mat where Jack would be sitting.

There was a subtle knock on the front door before I heard it open and close.
"Honey, I'm home!"
"Shut up, dingus! I'm in the kitchen."
The kitchen door swung open to reveal Jack in a slim fitting, white button up shirt teamed with his jeans and his vans.
"I thought I said not to wear anything fancy."
"Yeah, which is your talk for basically telling me to wear something fancy."
"You look hot, by the way."
"You're not too bad yourself, Mr Gaskarth."
"Don't call me that, I want to at least eat before I get a boner."
Jack chuckled, his beautiful laugh ringing through the kitchen. I led him to his seat, him sitting down and immediately inspecting the rose, turning it between his index finger and thumb. I retrieved the pizza from the oven and set it down in the middle of the table, the plates already being out. Taking my seat and pouring us each a glass of wine, even though Jack's under age and him drinking is illegal. Although, that being said, I don't think under age drinking would be the police's first concern regarding our relationship. We've already broken so many other laws, why not break one more? I raised my glass and held it up towards Jack, him doing the same to me. We clinked them together and took a sip, setting the glass back down and tucking into our pizza.
"Damn, Lex, where did you learn to cook like this?"
"Recipe from the internet...Is it okay?"
"It's amazing, Lex, honestly."
"Thank you, Jack. I love you."
"I love you too, Lex."
We fell into silence again as we ate the rest of our meals and drank the last of the wine.

"Thank you, Lex, that was lovely."
"It's okay. I've got something to say though."
Jack's eyes widened, his face suddenly draining of all colour.
"Look, this relationship, us, is beyond illegal and we both know that but I wouldn't have it any other way. You're perfect, Jay and I love you so much. You complete me and I've never been this happy before in my entire life. You've been with me through so much and you've stuck with me throughout it all and for that, I cannot thank you enough. I love you with my whole being and I want to prove that to you because I feel like I don't do it enough. So, when I'm being a shitty boyfriend, I want you to look down at this and remember what it symbolises and how much I really do love you."
I fished the ring, now out of the box due to it not fitting in my pocket discreetly, out of my pocket and held it out to Jack over the table.
"It's a promise ring, Jack. I promise that I'll always love you and be there for you when you need it. I promise to care for you and look out for you because that's the least that you deserve. But mainly, I promise to never ever hurt you and to never leave your side. I love you so much, Jay and I never want to let you go."
A single tear escaped from Jack's right eye and rolled down his cheek. I reached across the table and wiped it away with my thumb. Jack was smiling like an idiot and it was a beautiful sight. I slid it onto his finger, not letting go of his hand once it was on.
"I'm so lucky to have found you, Jay. I love you so fucking much."
"I'm glad that I found you, Lex. Without you, I'm nothing. I love you too, so much."
I leant in across the table, Jack doing the same, until our lips met. The kiss was slow and filled with love and passion. Jack was the first to pull away.
"As much as it would be romantic and shit to now go upstairs and have sex, I really don't think my ass could take much more so soon."
"I know, Jay. That's why I planned on movies in bed whilst we cuddled."
"You're the best, you know that?"
Jack hummed in response and went back to admiring his ring. It fit perfectly and it really did suit him. It look right on him and, more importantly, he looked right wearing it.

Jack had fallen asleep after the second Home Alone film, leaving me pinned down on the bed underneath him with the moved still playing. He insisted that we watched it and, as the night was mainly about him, I obliged. I do love Home Alone, don't get me wrong, but Jack's love for those films was just on another level. Sure, we all knew some lines from our favourite movies but it's very rare that we can quote the movies line for line all the way through. Jack could and although it was cute to see him so caught up in a film, the constant quoting of the movie was starting to get a little irritating but I didn't have it in me to stop him: he looked so cute and it's one of my favourite things to see someone's face light up when they're doing/watching/listening to something they love. I guess my face lit up when I speak of Jack, I hope it does because I really do love him and I'm positive that I want to make him mine one day.
