Just a Daydream Away

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. Alex was asleep, cuddled into me like he had been since we got home from school. He looked so peaceful and happy. I moved, trying not to wake him, but failed miserably. His eyes fluttered open, and he watched me get up, stretching out at the same time. God, he was amazing.

"My mom's calling me, I'll be back in a minute" I walked out the room as he hummed a response and answered the phone.


My mom was just worried about where I was, seen as it was 11pm on a school night, and I forgot to tell her that I was heading to Alex's for tea. I told her that I would be home as soon as I could, it was only a 15 minute walk from Alex's house to mine.

I walked back into the giant living room to see the handsome boy sitting on the sofa, still looking extremely tired. I don't want to leave him on his own, I feel like I have to protect him and keep him safe, for some strange reason.

"Alex, I have to go now, my mom wants me home, we spent most of the time sleeping you know? You never got to teach me the song.." I pulled my best sad face to be overly dramatic.

"Don't leave, please? You can stay over. I have spare clothes that will fit you, and I could still teach you the chords before we go to bed?"

I tried to to hide my smile as I went to call my mom again. I didn't want to leave her on her own, but it would only be one night, she would probably be going to bed soon anyway. I dialled her number and waited for a response.

"Jack? What is it?" Joyce asked down the phone. She seemed worried.

"Hey mom, um, is it okay if I stay at Alex's tonight? We still have loads of homework to do and we're helping each other." My mom always wanted me to do well at school, so if I told her a little lie about homework, then she was bound to say yes.

"Yeah, I suppose, is it alright with his parents?" Her voice was relaxed now, calm.

"Yup, totally." I lied again. A little white lie couldn't hurt, could it?

"Okay, but don't stay up too late! I love you"

"Love you too mom, bye." And with that, I hung up.



I borrowed some of Alex's pyjamas, the legs were a bit shorter than I would of hoped, but they smelled of him, and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We stayed up talking about things for ages; our likes, dislikes, birthdays, and stuff like that. Turns out Alex's birthday is in December, which is only a few months away. He was going to be 18, so I wanted to get him something special.

"Hey Jack, do you still want me to show you the chords you were stuck on?" Alex asked, as he pulled his polished acoustic guitar out of its case.

"Yes please, if you don't mind." I've wanted to learn this song for a while now, I just couldn't get my fingers lined up properly on the notes, and the fact that Alex was going to be close to me made me even more excited to learn it. He placed the guitar onto my lap and stood behind me. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck and it sent shivers tingling up and down my spine.


Soon enough, I could play the whole song through. I played it through non-stop, with Alex smiling at me the whole way through.

"Jack, you did it! Well done!" Alex said, he looked so proud of himself for teaching someone. And then he ran up to me and hugged me. I felt overwhelmed with feelings, that moment was perfect.

"Right, play it again." The older boy requested. I started playing the song again, my fingers reaching each note perfectly. Alex started nodding his head and swaying to the intro, and then, he started to sing.

The most beautiful, angelic voice filled the room. We sounded amazing together, and it felt special. I struggled to keep my mind on the notes I need to play, Alex's voice sounded so perfect I just wanted to sit there and watch the way his lips moved around the words and the way he closed his eyes whilst trying to hit the higher notes. Eventually, I finished playing and put the guitar down on the bed.

"Wow, Lex, that was perfect." I said quietly, still shocked by how good we both sounded together.

"Lex?" Alex asked me, a playful look on his face.

"Oh, yeah, sorry, I, um, didn't mean to say that." Why did I call him that, I was so stupid.

The caramel-haired boy then stood up. "No, it's okay. I like it, actually." He started to walk closer to me, until our bodies were almost touching.

"Can I try something?" He asked cautiously. Hell, I would've agreed to anything he said at that moment, he looked so gosh darn attractive.

He slowly started to reach his head up towards my face, staring into my eyes. I felt myself leaning in towards him, too. Then our lips joined together, and I swear I felt sparks. I kissed back, and reached my left hand to cup his face, whilst my right hand wrapped around his waist. He lifted his arms and wrapped them both around my neck, and time stood still, the way it did before when I first saw him. The kiss was innocent, no tongues involved, it felt pure, and sweet.

We both pulled away at the same time and smiled at each other, I looked into his eyes, I felt like I could get lost in them forever.

"Thank you for letting me try that." Alex whispered.

"My pleasure." I whispered back.

And then we crawled into his kingsize bed, and snuggled until we fell asleep together again.
