A Place to call home

Jack’s POV
I Woke up with a strong ache in my back, ribs and chest, my head was also pounding. Last night I had received the worst beating yet, and my ‘father’ just left me on the floor to bleed. Such fun. I Got up, wincing in the process, and peeled my shirt off. I Walked over to the mirror and examined my torso. Covered in black and blue bruises, and a big gash up my side.. Probably from where he threw me into the glass table..

I Sighed and walked to the bathroom and turned the shower on before stripping down and climbing in, washing off all the dry blood.
I Got out and wrapped some bandage around my side, to stop the blood seeping through my shirt, which was green day. I Also had some black jeans on. By this point, my ribs were screaming at me to stop moving but I didn’t, even though I’m pretty sure a few were cracked. At least.
When I arrived at school, I walked straight past all of my friends, who were waiting outside like normal, and into the school building. I Was going to apologise to Alex. I Quickly spotted him by his locker and I hesitantly walked over to him. “Hey…” I Said softly, my voice cracking in the middle. He winced at the sound of my voice and began to walk away. I Grabbed his wrist softly, and I winced at the sudden movement. He looked at me with confusion and concern in his eyes. “Are you alright?” He asked timidly. I Nodded but winced at the movement. He looked as though he was examining me. “Are.. are those bruises?” He spoke softly. “No, I don’t know what your-“ “Are those bruises?” He cut me off. “Uh..” I Tried to think of an excuse but nothing came to mind, so I did the only thing I knew how to do, I ran. I Ran into the bathroom, leaving him standing there, shocked. I Broke into sobs and slid down the wall, knowing a person I had only known for a day or so now knows my darkest secret. And honestly, that terrified me..
I Stayed in the bathroom for another hour or so, and then exited and went to my next period. Music. Luckily I had no classes with Alex today.
On the way home, I had my earphones in, and was bobbing my head in time to the song that was playing, when I heard “JACK!” I froze on the spot.
