The Good Life

Nursey

Three Months Later

September

*Alex*

Jack and I were walking into Babies R Us to buy a bedroom set he saw online and liked for the baby. Jack wanted us to start shopping in August, but I was getting my classroom and lesson plans ready for my new students. We still have all of September, October and part of November to finish getting her room ready and to choose a name. Jack still likes the name Ariel, but I’m so sure we can pick something better.

“Hi! May I help you?” One of the workers asked us as we stepped through the sliding doors.

“Yes! We’re looking for a bedroom set I saw online. It’s like a dark wood color and it comes with a crib, a dresser and a changing table.” Jack told the lady.

“I can certainly help you find those items, just follow me this way!” She smiled and we trailed behind her to the nursery section. We walked to the middle of the aisle and saw the exact one Jack saw online. “I’ll get someone to help you two load the items into your car.” She said and walked away.

“Are you sure this is the one you want?” I asked Jack. I didn’t want him to change his mind and make us look for one all over again.

“Yes it’s perfect!” He exclaimed. “I want to get a rocking chair too.” He said and I looked down at the huge boxes.

“I’m going to have to call Oli and ask him to bring his truck.”

***

Thank god Oli had a Ford F150 because this stuff wouldn’t have fit into my small Honda, we really didn’t think things through.

“You better be glad I didn’t have to work today.” Oli joked.

“Oh whatever! You don’t ever have to work on weekends.” I told him. I knew we could call him since it was Saturday.

“Thank you so much, Oli!” Jack said.

“Oh anything for my uh…nameless niece.” Oli laughed.

“Hopefully she’ll have a name that we can agree on next month.” Jack glared at me.

“Don’t look at me like that! All the names you’ve said so far we don’t agree on.” I told him.

“You don’t have any names that you do like?” he asked. I had to tell him I’ll tell him later because two workers walked out of the door with pallets with our items on them. We brought the whole bedroom set Jack liked, a rocking chair, a memory foam mattress despite my protest (I don’t think a baby needs a memory foam mattress but for some reason Jack does), a pink bedroom set which came with her blanket, pillows, a mobile and curtains. We also picked out decorations and paint for her room because I told Jack I’d rather get all of the shopping done today. The bill was around $800 which Jack paid for with the swipe of his credit card. He insisted that he pay for it since he feels like he ‘forced me’ to adopt with him.

Once Oli’s truck was loaded with all the larger items and mine were loaded with the smaller ones we headed back to Jack and I’s place. I moved back in with him sometime in July.

“I’m going to call Rian so he can help us unload this shit.” I said and Jack glared at me, he wanted me to get into the habit of not cussing so much. “…I mean stuff.” I called Rian and he assured me he would be here to help in fifteen minutes. We took the smaller items inside while we waited for him to get here.

Rian pulled into the drive way twenty minutes later and Cass was with him.

“Why did you have to bring her?” I laughed and Cassadee fake laughed.

“I’m here to help set up my GODCHILD’S room.” She taunted and I sighed.

Rian, Oli, Jack and I got all the furniture upstairs in the baby’s room within fifteen minutes. We decided to put the furniture together and set up the room. Jack and Cass went to Home Depot to get paint brushes and things to paint the room. Cassadee is surprisingly a really good painter so of course the room looked beautiful after she finished with it. We couldn’t touch the walls so we left all the furniture in the middle of the room when finished putting it all together. Putting the furniture together took the longest amount of time because Rian, Oli, and I thought we could do it without looking at the instructions, we were very wrong.

We finished around seven pm which isn’t that bad considering we started around noon. We started around the same time, but the paint took four hours to dry and we took five hours putting the bedroom set together. Her room looked perfect I actually can’t wait until we show it to her, of course she won’t understand what’s going on. I’m still afraid of doing something wrong while raising her, but I’m not going to stress too much about it. I can’t wait until I can actually hold my daughter and feel her tiny heartbeat!

“Cassadee, you are so perfect! I’ll never understand how you did this.” Jack told Cass as we did the final touches.

“She’s good with her hands.” Rian smirked obviously knowing what he was saying.

“Shut up!” Cass hit him in the stomach. “And thank you, Jack. I used to paint a lot in high school, but I stopped.” She said.

“What about us? We did a great job putting the furniture together didn’t we?” I asked Jack.

“Yeah you guys did well considering Cassadee and I had to yell at you guys to use the instructions.” He chuckled.

“I want to paint her name next to her crib so as soon as you guys get that figured out tell me.” Cass said.

“You should name her Olivia.” Oli said and I rolled my eyes at him.

“No thank you, Oli” Jack laughed.

“Do you two have any names you like so far?” Cass asked.

“Jack likes the name Ariel.” I stated.

“I feel like she’s going to have to dye her hair red with that name.” Oli said and Rian agreed.

“No she will not!” Cassadee objected. “I like that name, but I feel like there’s something better for her.”

“I feel the same way.” I said.

“I just want her name to be perfect.” Jack sighed.

“We still have time to pick a name.” I told him.

“I want her to have a name by October!” He whined.

“Okay she’ll have a name by then.” I said to make him happy.

“When are you guys going to have a baby shower?” Cassadee asked.

“I wasn’t really planning on us having one.” Jack said.

“Of course you are and I’m going to plan it!” Cass cheered. “Rian and Oli you’re helping.” She demanded.

“I’ll bring the drinks so we can hammered!” Oli yelled out.

“It’s a baby shower not a bachelor party, Oli.” Cassadee exaggerated.

“It’s a baby shower for guys, so there should at least be beer there.” Rian said.

“Fine.”

“And Vodka.” Oli whispered, but Cass still heard him.

“No hard alcohol, but we can play games and shower you guys in gifts.” She turned towards Jack and me.

“That sounds like lots of fun!” Jack smiled.

“I’ll plan it for three weeks from now. Is that okay?” she asked.

“Yeah that’s fine with me.” I said and Jack agreed.

“Yay we can get registries for you and go to Party City for decorations and…” Cassadee kept going obviously too excited for the baby shower.

***

“Okay mom. I love you too.” Jack said to his mother and hung up. He called her after everyone left to tell her about the baby shower. “My mom said she’s sure she can take off of work and come to the baby shower!” Jack grinned. “Now our parents can meet each other.” As soon as those words left his mouth I froze, not because I didn’t want our parents to meet but because I haven’t told my dad about any of this yet. “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you excited?” Jack asked me.

“Um promise you won’t get angry.” I started off with and he stared at me slightly nodding in agreement. “Ok well I haven’t exactly told my dad that I’m having a baby with you let alone told him that we’re dating again.” I mumbled the last part when I saw his eyes narrow.

“WHAT THE HELL, ALEX!!!” he shouted at me.

“You promised you wouldn’t get angry.” I reminded him and he rolled his eyes.

“That was before I knew you were keeping this a secret from your dad.” He said.

“I’m not keeping it a secret I just try to avoid him as much as possible.” I said.

“Why?”

“Because I’m still pissed he went behind my back and got married to Dr. Fey.” Back in July when I moved in with Jack I went to visit my dad to tell him about Jack and I getting back together and adopting , but he said he had some ‘good news’ to tell me first. It turns out the news was that he and Dr. Fey went to a courthouse and eloped. I was so angry I got up and left without saying a word to him. He tried to talk to me at work a few times, but I would barely talk to him so he stopped. I want my dad to be happy, he can date whoever he wants but marrying another women is out of line. He and my mom have been divorced for years now but knowing he’s trying to replace her with Dr. Fey angers me for some reason.

“Alex you can’t stay angry at him forever. He’s a grown up, he can do whatever he wants.” Jack said.

“He can do whatever he wants, I’m just not happy with what he’s done.” I said back stubbornly.

“I want my daughter to know her Grandma and her Grandpa so tomorrow you’re going to call your dad and tell him you’re sorry for the way you acted that day.” Jack demanded.

“And if I don’t.” I challenged.

“Then no sex for three months.” He threatened. Since we got back together, Jack has given me a blow job or we had sex almost every night because he’s been so grateful that I decided to go through this with him and that was his way of showing his appreciation. So I was not willing to give that up for anything. Plus I guess I kind of maybe really missed talking to my dad so this was the push I needed to make things right.

“Okay okay I’ll call him tomorrow.” I surrendered.

“Great! Now take off your pants.”

Notes

Sorry I keep jumping around in the story, but it would have been boring if I kept going day by day. I started school on Monday, but I still have time to write so I'll still update once a week! Also in the previous chapters when I said they watch a movie in the media room I meant it's like a room in the house that's set up like a mini movie theater. I didn't know what a media room was when I first heard the term so just in case someone else didn't know. And I'm so embarrassed to say this, but I did not know Oli from Bring me the Horizon was British. I don't hear the accent when he sings lol I watched an interview of him and heard the accent but i thought he was just doing it to be funny and I was like of he does a great British accent, but he didn't stop so I realized it was real. Long story short I'm an idiot. So just imagine he's American in the story i guess. Lol Thank you for reading!!
