The Good Life

My Valentine

*Alex*

“But flowers are so cliché.” I complained to Oli. I finally finished work for the day and I was looking for Valentine’s Day presents for Jack while Oli was looking for ones for Hannah. Valentine’s Day was tomorrow, and I decided to cook for Jack instead of making a reservation at a crowded restaurant. I at least wanted to buy Jack two gifts, and I couldn’t even think of one. It kind of sucked Valentine’s Day fell on a Wednesday this year because we had to go to work the next day, but there was nothing I could do about it.

“It’s a made up holiday anyways so why does it matter if what you buy is cliché or not. As long as you make other women…or men…jealous with what you brought your loved one, they won’t care what it is. Or at least that’s how it is with Hannah.” Oli said. He had a point, besides I don’t think Jack really cares about Valentine’s Day.

“I guess that’s true. I’ll just sent flowers to him at work tomorrow, but I still need to get him one more thing.” I thought out loud. I wish I was as perfect as Rian. He was cooking for Cass (which is where I got that idea) and he rented a projector so they could cuddle on a blanket and watch movies outside.

“How about jewelry?” Oli asked

“Nah I brought him a watch for Christmas and I’m still paying it off.” I looked around the store for ten more minutes and saw a huge box of chocolate. Jack loves chocolate more than he loves me so I guess it would have to do. So much for not being cliché.

When I got back home I called four floral companies before I found one that could deliver flowers to Jack tomorrow at work. It cost more than I would like, but it was worth it for him. I decided I was going to make baked salmon for us since Jack liked seafood so much. I was going to make the food here at my place and take it over to Jack’s so Cass and Rian could have the place to themselves. I just had to look up a recipe online because I don’t know shit about cooking anything but breakfast. The recipe I found called for things I didn’t have in my apartment so I made a quick run to the grocery store to buy everything I needed.

When I made it back home, I started seasoning the fish so it could sit out overnight. The lemon seasoning I was using was so strong that it actually started to burn my nose. I sat the salmon in the fridge and my phone started ringing.

“Hey Jack.” I answered.

“Hey babe, are we still having dinner at my place tomorrow at seven?” He asked.

“I thought you were going to eat dinner with your boyfriend Zack.” I told him playfully and heard him chuckle on the line.

“Alex that was like two months ago, let it go.”

“Fine. But yes dinner at your house at seven.” I said while sniffling because my nose still burned from the seasoning I used.

“Alex, what’s wrong?” Jack asked; worrying way too much as usual.

“Nothing. The seasoning I used to cook our dinner burned my nose, but I’m fine.” I reassured him.

“Ooo what are you making for us?” This was his fifth time asking me since I told him I was cooking for us, but I still wasn’t going to tell him what I was making, it was a surprise.

“For the fifth time, babe, I’m not telling you. So stop asking, you have to wait one more day.” I scowled at him.

“But I hate waiting!” he whined.

“I know but it won’t kill you, I promise.” I told him still hearing him whine on the phone.

“It literally might.”

“Stop being overdramatic.” I said as I looked around the house for something to eat for dinner.

“Okay. I guess I’ll go get ready for bed now, but I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep without knowing what the surprise is.” He sighed, trying to make me feel bad, but it wasn’t working.

“Go take some Benadryl it’ll knock you right out.” I told him and heard him gawk at me.

“Get off my phone, you jerk!” He yelled at me.

“Okay, bye I love you.” I laughed and told him.

“Love you too!” he said and hung up the phone.

“Honey, we’re home!” I heard Rian yell as he and Cass walked through the front door.

“Hey guys! What’s in the bag?” I asked pointing to the brown paper bags in Rian’s hand.

“It’s dinner. We brought Chinese food, is that okay?” Cass said.

“Yeah of course!” I was starving too badly to care about what I was eating.

“Good because you don’t have a choice.” Rian said as he sat the food on the table. I glared at him and we sat down to eat; making small talk about our day.

I was on my way to Hell aka the school I worked at and I could already tell today was going to be a long day. I was counting down the hours until Jack and I’s date; eleven hours left. I walked into my classroom ten minutes before the bell rang, usually I would be in my room an hour early but I pressed the snooze button one too many times. One by one my students slowly took their seats and I waited for the tardy bell to ring before I started talking.

“Okay guys, I have a proposal for you all. I’m going to ask ten questions about pass books we’ve read and if I can get ten different people to answer each question right, then you guys can do whatever you want with your free time.” I told them and they all mumbled in agreement.
When I was with my second class of the day, my phone started vibrating with a message from Jack.

To Alex:
BABY I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! THANK YOU FOR MY FLOWERS!!!

To Jack:
Haha you’re welcome! I was hoping you would like them.

To Alex:
Of course I did, but you’re going to like your present even more ;)

To Jack:
Is it something sexual?

To Alex:
Yep. It has something to do with me riding you <3

I had felt my pants tighten while I imagined that happening.

To Jack:
Babe please! I don’t want to sport a boner in front of my whole class.

To Alex:
I’m going to sink down onto your cock until you are balls deep inside of me

To Jack:
JACK PLEASE!!! STOP!

To Alex:
Ok I’ll just let you experience it first-hand instead. Now go finish teaching and stop sexting me you pervert.

To Jack:
You started it!

To Alex:
Whatever! Go back to work.

To Jack:
You go back to work

I gave all six of my classes free days and it didn’t go so bad, I even got to eat lunch with my father today. He told me he was taking Dr. Fey out for dinner tonight and we talked about how serious they were getting. Usually when my dad would start dating someone new, he would blow off anyone and everyone just to be with that person; and when it didn’t work out between them, he would fall into a depression because he wouldn’t know how to function without them. Every time I tried to explain this to him, he would just laugh it off as if it was a joke so there wasn’t really much I could do about it.

When I got home I realized I was an idiot because Rian and I had to fight around each other while we cooked dinner for our significant other. It wasn’t that bad we just had to take turns using the oven and stove tops.

“Where’s Cassadee?” I asked Rian. Usually she would be home by this time complaining about her day at work.

“I asked her to go to her friend’s house after work so I could set up this surprise for her.” He said smiling to himself.

“Okay well I’ll be out of here at around six-forty-five and then you guys can have the house to yourselves. Just make sure if you guys have sex you-“ he cut me off before I could finish my sentence.

“I know. I know. Make sure I use protection.” He sighed as he walked over to take his chicken out of the oven.

“Nooooo. I was going to say make sure you guys only do it in your rooms because I don’t want to sit on the couch, or eat at a table you guys fucked on.” I laughed and he rolled his eyes at me.

“Well it’s a little too late for that now.” He smirked and continued stirring and seasoning food.

“If I find out you guys have done it anywhere in this house other than your room, I’m going to bring Jack over and we’re going to have sex in your bed.” I threatened him and he still continued to laugh.

“Then we’ll be even, bitch.” He said and dodge the spoon I through over in his direction.

“Asshole.” I grumbled.

I finished cooking kind of late because Cass came home when I was about to walk out the door.

“Did you change?” I asked her because when she left this morning, she was wearing jeans and a shirt but now she had on a nice dress and heels.

“Yes! I had to look beautiful for my date!” she exclaimed.

“And you do look so beautiful, Cass.” Rian said as he came from setting the table for them. She walked over to him and they started to kiss.

“Ew I have to go before I lose my appetite.” I joked and gathered the pots to put them in my car. Rian helped me since I couldn’t carry them all by myself. Once we finished I said bye and I was on my way to Jack’s house.
