The Good Life

He Didn't Mean That

*Jack *

It was 7am and I felt like death, I had to be at my office at 8:30 for a meeting. So I decided I had a few minutes to kill and stopped by Starbucks to get something to wake me up. I parked my silver BMW, went inside and ordered myself a white chocolate mocha. The guy who took my order and name was pretty cute, but he seemed really young.

I was playing temple run while waiting for my drink to be made and didn't realize another guy who stepped inside. I was half listening to him place his order. His voice sounded familiar but I couldn't really place my finger on where I heard it before.

“Can I get a strawberries and cream Frappuccino, " he asked.

The barista rung him up and asked his name, he uttered “Alex Gaskarth."

I looked up so fast and dropped my phone quickly picking it up checking for cracks. I saw my whole screen shattered (fucking IPhone). I knew that name though. Alex Gaskarth was my crush for all four years of high school. I couldn't go though one class without staring at him or daydreaming about him. I only build up the courage to talk to him maybe twice throughout our high school career so he probably barely knew that I existed. I knew I couldn't have him because he was one of the popular boys and dated his girlfriend Lisa on and off for all four years. Everyone for some reason knew that I was gay, but nobody cared. I was nothing special though, I only had two friends Zack Merrick and Jared Michaels (I only talked to Zack now).

I was woken up from my trance when the barista called out my name. I grabbed my drink and saw Alex staring at me with a confused look on his face.

“You look really familiar, have we meant before?" he asked me.

“Actually we have, we um... went to high school together”

“Oh! Jack of course how could I forget” he laughed “what a coincidence we both moved over here to California right?”

“Yeah t-that is weird” I laughed nervously and mentally kicked myself for being so nervous around him.

The Barista called Alex's name and he grabbed his drink. “Well Jack it was nice seeing you again, I wouldn't mind us getting together to catch up sometime" he said looking down almost as if he was nervous.

“Of course, I would love nothing more than that" I grinned mentally kicking myself again because of how eager I sounded.

“Sweet, here's my number" he pulled a pen from his pocket and scribbled it down on his receipt. He had the cutest smile on his face as he handed me the paper.

We said our goodbyes as I walked out of Starbucks heading to my meeting. As much as I wanted to I don't think I should meet up with Alex, he just wants to be friends and I don't think I would be able to control my feelings around him, I 'd probably just scare him off anyways.
