The Good Life

I've had Enough

*Alex*

I was finally done teaching for the week and was on my way home. I had called into work Tuesday after Jack and I had that huge fight, so I had to make up for that day lost. And to make matters worse I received a text message from Lisa as I stepped through my door.

To Alex:
I know you asked me not to text or call, but please hear me out! I’m so sorry for the way I acted on Monday. That was so immature and I didn’t know what came over me. I respect you and your new girlfriend!

I thought about it for a second and decided I couldn’t be mad at Lisa forever, everyone deserves a second chance. I also decided to wait before telling her it was boyfriend not girlfriend because it wasn’t important anymore.

To Lisa:
Hey I forgive you, but if you pull anything like that again our friendship is over.

To Alex:
I wouldn’t dream of it. Oh! And Oli and Hannah are here in town. I was wondering if you wanted to grab a beer with them tomorrow night at this bar called Con Clase. Don’t ask, Oli chose it lol

Oli was an old friend of Lisa and me when we were in highschool. Hannah was his girlfriend. They went to a different high school than us though; we met them at a Fall Out Boy concert in tenth grade. I needed to get out and stop moping around, so I agreed to meet them there. They didn’t know that Rian and Cassadee were at Cass’s Grandma’s 70th birthday party and I was going to be all alone in the house until Sunday.

The Next Night

I was on my way to Con Clase to meet up with Lisa, Oli, and Hannah. They were already there and I, of course, was running late. I walked in and found them over by the pool tables.

“Hi guys!” I yelled as I walked up to them. Oli had gotten more tattoos since last time I’ve seen him and Hannah hadn’t really changed at all. Gorgeous as ever.

“Alex! How’ve you been, man?” Oli asked as he and Hannah hugged me.

“Great, just busy with work as usual.” I smiled towards them. I really missed Oli, he was one of my close friends back home.
“So what brings you guys to San Diego?”

“I got offered a job at a recording studio called Hopeless records. So we flew out here to look around for a house.” Oli always dreamed of working in the music industry so I was happy his dreams were coming true.

“So are we going to play pool, or just stand around here for no reason, guys?” Lisa asked with the sticks in her hand. Oli and Hannah agreed while I faked a smile and nodded. I tried to not think of Jack and have a good time with my friends, but it wasn’t working.

I had fun with my friends just like old times while we reminisced and drank beer, Lisa even kept her promise, but I still missed Jack. I was on my way home trying talk myself into stopping by his house just to talk things out. I finally decided I would wake up early in the morning and go by Jack’s to see if he wanted to go out to grab breakfast and talk. I walked in and went tried my best to fall asleep, but it was useless because I had butterflies just thinking about tomorrow.

I woke up the next morning and showered trying to get all fancy for Jack. I didn’t want to call him so he wouldn’t have the chance to tell me no. After I made myself decent enough I got in my car and drove to Jack’s house. I pulled into his driveway and saw a car parked outside that wasn’t his. I didn’t care if he had company; I just wanted to get him back.

I rang the doorbell and some guy came to answer it in his boxers asking me where his pizza was. I stood there pissed, and asked who he was and where Jack was. Not even a minute later Jack was running out of his room with a guilty look on his face telling me he could explain. It clicked in my head that Jack slept with that guy. I felt sick, like my heart had been pulled out of my chest and stepped on. The pain quickly turned to anger when the guy in his boxers started going off on me saying he was with Jack and that I could fuck off, so before I could stop myself I punched him in the face. I ignored his cries of pain and pain starting to set in my fucking hand as I walked out of the door. I heard Jack beg me not to go, but there was no way I could even look at him after this. I sped off in my car by passing the stupid pizza hut delivery car.

I pulled up to my apartment and saw Rian and Cassadee were back early. I ran inside, grabbed a bowl, filled it with ice, and stuck my hand in it since it was starting to swell.

“Alex! What the fuck happened to your hand!?!” Cassadee asked while coming to examine it. She always babied me when I was hurt. I told her and Rian about the events that had taken place.

“Dude I’m sorry. I know how much you liked him, but maybe it just wasn’t meant to be?” Rian stated.

“No, Rian, don’t say that! Alex, you and Jack can still work this out!” Cassadee was trying to keep hope alive, but it was already dead.

“No, Cass, I think Rian’s right. A relationship that has this many problems isn’t worth it.”
