Unexpected

Mackenzie's POV


I went inside the Chemistry lab. The new Chemistry teacher, Mr. Peterson were mixing up the school’s way of partnership and therefore, we’ll be taking the name of our partner from his hat. It was exciting, but excruciating because you just want to know who your lab partner is.

He started with the people from his left hand side, which was full of the popular kids. Inside the hat were the names of the students on his right side. Brody the smart jock got Ben, his friend. Claudia the head cheerleader got Josh. Josh has been head over heels for her and well; she’s single, so that’s good. It went on and on and then I heard someone called my name. It was Lily!

She looked at me, smiled, and we sat on the third table located on the second row alongside Brody and Ben.

‘Hi, I’m Lily.” She said smiling. “I’m Lily Summers.”

“Yeah, I know who you are.” I smiled

“And you are? I see you a lot, but I never got a chance to really know you.”

“Well you know my first name is Mackenzie.” I looked down smiling. “I’m Mackenzie Merrick.”

“It’s nice to meet you Mackenzie.” She shook my hand. “This is Brody. He’s my best friend.” She introduced me to Brody, since we were gonna be sitting in the same table maybe it was better if we knew each other. Brody shook my hand.

“Nice to meet you. Mackenzie, am I right?”

“Yeah, it’s nice to meet you too Brody.”

“Ben. My name’s Ben.” Ben shook my hand acting like he doesn’t know me.

“Yeah, Ben, I know. We sat together yesterday.” He just chuckled.

Mr. Peterson went on about particles and molecules. It was all very clear actually. I’m glad I got to sit with Ben, Brody, and Lily. We help each other understand and it was nice to see another side of Lily.

The bell rang and Mr. Peterson sent us out for lunchtime. I saw Colin, Graham, and Sebastian waiting for me. They all smiled at me and I did the same, but Colin’s smile faded when he saw me with Lily. It was adorable. He had this spark in his eyes every time he sees her. I knew that would never happen to me.

“So guys, this is Lily.” I said introducing her to my friends. She seems okay with it. Well, she is very nice.

“I’m Graham.” Graham shook her hand smiling.

“Sebastian” Sebastian said doing the same thing Graham did.

“Colin.” Lily said smiling. “How are you?”

“Hi Lil, I’m fine. How are you? How’s Athos?” He said awkwardly.

“Athos died last week. He got to old.” Her smile faded.

“Oh Lil, I’m sorry.” Colin tried to pat her shoulder, but decided to pull his hands back in.

“It’s okay. At least he knows how much we cared about him.” She looked at him. “Well, I have to go. Nice to meet you, Graham and Sebastian. It’s nice to be your lab partner Mackenzie and good to see you Colin.” She smiled at Colin who was taller than her. “See you guys.” She walked away with Claudia and Brody.

“Ooooooh.” Graham, Sebastian, and I said in harmony.

“Stop it guys.” Colin blushed

“How did you know each other?” Graham asked both Colin and me.

“Well, for starters, I’m her new lab partner.” I smiled

“We’re neighbors. She doesn’t know about my feelings, but we were close as kids. We’re not anymore, but yeah, we know each other. She doesn’t visit me anymore like when we were little”

“Colin..” All three of us hugged him

“You know what, forget about it. Let’s eat, I’m starving.” We let Colin go and we walk together to the cafeteria. As usual, we look like those kids in The Breakfast Club. Except there’s only four of us, but we were the perfect four-pieced puzzle.

My second chapter. Trust me, It'll get more interesting. I wanted to do something different, so I decided to do a tory about their children. I hope you're interested. :)
