Chapter Ten: America
From Jacky<3: Hey babe. Alex is getting ready to play Remembering Sunday. Head down to the stage!
To Jacky<3: Alright. Be there in a few :)
I pocketed my phone & turned to Vinny.
"I gotta go. Have fun," I said. Vinny grinned at me & I took off running towards the stage.
I spotted Jack when I reached the stage, & I ran up behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist from behind.
"There you are!" He exclaimed as he turned around. He pecked my lips & I pulled away from him, lacing my fingers through his as I placed myself next to him.
"You're staying for the whole rest of the show, right?" Jack asked.
"Of course, Jack-o," I said with a smile. I watched Alex, focusing on the sound of his voice & the guitar, the sound of the crowd singing along. I noticed a girl in the front row had her face in her hands. I had a feeling she was crying, & my assumption was correct when she looked up. She had tears falling fast down her face, & she started singing along, wiping her face as she did so. I tapped Jack on the shoulder.
"You see her?" I asked, pointing at her.
"Who?"
"The girl in the front row, blue tank top, brown hair," I said.
"Oh yeah. What about her?" Jack asked.
"She's crying. I feel bad," I said.
"You didn't do anything to feel bad, babe," Jack said.
"I know.. I just feel like she needs a hug," I muttered.
"You want to meet her?" Jack asked.
"Yeah I do," I said as I rested my head on Jack's shoulder... well somewhat. It was more like I rested my head against his bicep.
"I can arrange that," Jack said softly as Remembering Sunday came to a close.
"Thanks Jacky," I said. He smiled & kissed me before taking his guitar & heading out after Zack. I inched closer to the stage, & watched as they all got situated.
"Give it up for Alex & Cassadee Pope!" Jack said. The crowd cheered.
"So, I was talking to someone backstage, & she pointed one of you out to me. She wants to meet you, & I promised her I'd get that one lucky fan for her," Jack said as he detached his microphone from its stand. He approached the barricade, & he stood right in front of the girl.
"She pointed you out to me," Jack said, staring right at her. Her eyes widened, & her friend tugged on her arm in excitement. She looked back & met someone's eyes before nodding a little bit & turning back to Jack.
"What's your name?" Jack asked, & he held the microphone out to her.
"Stephanie," she said, looking a little nervous.
"Do you mind waiting here after the show to come with us?" Jack asked. I smiled.
"No I don't mind," she said, & Jack gave her an awkward hug over the barricade. He made his way back onstage, & replaced his microphone back on its stand. He met my eyes & gave me a thumbs up.
After the show, the girl kept her promise & waited by herself for Jack to bring her back to the bus.
Back on the bus, Jack handed her a bottle of cold water, & she took it gratefully.
"So... why.. why did you want to talk to me?" She asked, looking at me. I smiled warmly at her as Jack took a seat next to me.
"You seem like a very sweet girl. I spotted you in the crowd during Remembering Sunday, & you had your face in your hands & I... it seemed like you weren't just crying because you love the song," I rambled on, making her laugh slightly. She wrapped her arms around her torso before saying anything.
"Things have been a little... iffy for me the past few weeks, & that concert just.. it gave me a good excuse to let it all out," she said. I nodded.
"Mind talking about it?" I asked softly. She shook her head.
"Uh.. Well, I just got over a cold, first of all.." She said, "the guy I like is just being a dick recently... I don't even know why I like him. He's just a dick all the time. I'm starting to not like him anymore."
"Do you want to stay in touch? As long as you don't leak my number out any private stuff I tell you," I said, thinking of mine and Jack's relationship.
"I would love to," she said with a bright smile. I put my number in her phone, & handed it back to her. She texted me, & my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and unlocked it, seeing the smiley face she sent.
"It works," I said, shaking my phone next to my face for a second. She smiled.
"You guys are awesome," she replied.
"You want something signed and hugs?" Jack asked as Alex entered the front lounge. She smiled at him & nodded.
After hugs & signing stuff, she went to leave, but stopped herself. She turned around, muttering a 'wait,' & she pulled off a necklace with a purple string around her neck. On the end, there was a green piece of plastic. She approached Alex and handed it to him, cheeks a bit rosy.
"I love this! What is it?" Alex asked.
"It's a surfboard necklace. I made it in eighth grade in my Woodshop class. I wasn't too great at the class then, but I thought you'd like it. I don't wear it anymore," she said, making Alex beam at her. He pulled her into another hug, & she left with scarlet cheeks.
"Fan made items are the best!" Alex exclaimed as he slipped the necklace over his head. He admired it for a second before leaving the lounge with a huge smile. I turned to Jack.
"She was fucking sweet," I said. He nodded & planted his lips on mine.
What a night.
