Lost In Stereo -Jack Barakat

Chapter 1-You Can Keep All Your Misery

Chapter 1-

To say that I’m not happy about going to school is a colossal understatement. For one there are people everywhere and teachers are always giving you more and more homework for things that you’re never even going to need in the future. I don’t plan to be a scientist or to travel to another country so I don’t see the need to study cells and another language that I’ve learnt throughout my education and still don’t understand. What I’m trying to say is that school is pointless and annoying.

I pull myself out of my bed after checking my phone for any messages; which of course I have none. I did have some friends back at my old school but I highly doubt that any of them will even bother to contact me now that I don’t even live in the same state as them.

I had to move houses because my dad got a promotion and he wasn’t going to turn it down so with that we moved states, all for a stupid job. I was finally getting my shit together and then all of a sudden we have to move. Life never works out the way that I would like it to.

I spent all weekend putting up posters of blink-182, Green Day and Fall Out Boy as well as moving all of my things into my new room (which was pretty difficult because my new room is upstairs). Mom insisted that I started school as soon as we moved so here I am standing in my room with messy bed hair while contemplating whether or not I should take a shower and actually go to school today. But then again this school could be like my last school and they might call my parents if I miss school. Being 16, they stopped calling my parents after I was away for a week straight but then it all came back when I got my report card saying that I had been away for half a term.

I hastily pull out some clothes from my wardrobe and walk into the bathroom. I turn on the shower and then take a shower. I get out and get dressed (outfit:http://24.media.tumblr.com/81d319205fc7b4e18957de8265895225/tumblr_mj6pinZRM81rd668ko1_500.jpg) and then straighten my dark red hair (which luckily I had redyed last week so the ugly natural brown colour that I have doesn’t show through on my first day of school). I put on my shoes and go into my room to pack my bag for today.

I have no idea what subject I have today because I have to get my timetable and locker code from the school’s office when I get to school. I glance over at the clock on my desk and it reads 8:15. I have 5 minutes to get everything together before my mom drops me off at school. I grab four books and my guitar pick in case I have music today. I shove them all into my bag and then go downstairs. I grab a can of Monster out of the fridge and open it.

“You know those things are bad for you.” Mom mutters as she fixes her hair in the mirror that’s placed in the lounge room.

“If they’re so bad for me then why do you buy them?” I ask sarcastically as I make my way to the front door. “Come on mom, I’m going to be late.”

She grabs her car keys and we get into the car. I put my earphones into my ears to keep the drive to school quiet so she doesn’t ask me any questions; I’m not a morning person.

“Okay so I’ll pick you up at 3, have a good day Imogen.” Mom smiles at me as we arrive at the school.

“Yep, you too. See you later.” I smile back at her and step out of the car.

The school is huge and it doesn’t help that it’s half way through second term. Everyone walks through the gates of the school with their friends and I just walk in awkwardly by myself. I look around for the school office and after 5 minutes of being shoved into lockers by other rude teenagers I finally find the office, but the bell rings. Great, late to my first class.

“Uh hi, my names Imogen and it’s my first day here.” I say to the lady at the office.

“Here’s your timetable and your locker combination. Your first class is in H4 which is up the stairs and to the left, you’ll see it. I hope you have a good time at school.” The lady, who’s name tag reads Jenny, (unless she took someone else name tag or something) says to me with an obviously fake smile on her face. I’m sure that I’d get sick of saying the same thing to people every day.

“Thanks.” I reply.

I walk to the stairs that she pointed to as fast as I can and then walk to the left of the corridor trying to find H4. I find it and knock on the door. I take out my earphones (which I put back in after Jenny was done talking) and put them away.

“You’re late to class.” The teacher sneers, his name tag reading Mr Stone.

“Sorry, I’m new and it took me 5 minutes to find the office this morning.” I say quickly.

“Okay, just don’t be late to my class again.” He instructs. I nod my head. “What’s your name?”

“Imogen.” I say.

“Okay Imogen, you can sit at the back with Jack Barakat.” The points to an empty chair next to a boy with half black and half blonde hair; skunk hair.

I walk over and get a book out for this class, which I’m assuming is maths due to the learning goal that’s written on the board. Damn two people desk, why can’t they just be like my old school where they had single desks? But then again this school has more students than my old school did. I silently sigh and direct my attention to a window on the side of the class room. It’s the middle of summer and it’s raining, lovely. Watching rain is better than doing maths work.
