Chapter inspiration: Under a Paper Moon ― All Time Low

The highway seemed to be dead at two thirty in the morning and there was nothing to see but the road on this cold night in North Carolina. Holly had spent most of the day sleeping in the backseat of Alex’s car anyways, so she was already wide awake, but wishing she wasn’t. She took a drag of her cigarette and looked towards Alex, slapping his cheek a little when she noticed him closing his eyes from lack of sleep for a split second.

“Hey,” she whispered as he blinked his eyes rapidly while staring at the road, “you want me to drive?”

He nodded slowly. “That would be nice.”

He pulled off on the side of the road, but it really didn’t matter anyways since they were practically the only car driving at the moment. She hopped over on the driver’s seat side as he got out and slid in the backseat, immediately getting comfortable. She pulled onto the road again, taking another drag and hanging her hand holding her cigarette out the window. “You never told me where we’re exactly going exactly,” she muttered as she sped down the highway.

“That’s a really good question.” Alex chuckled softly.

She furrowed her brow. “You mean to tell me, you never really planned where we’d be going?”

“In my defense, this whole thing was a spur of the moment thing.”

Holly hit the steering wheel in frustration. “Well then, where have we been heading to all this time?”

He huffed out a sigh. “I don’t know.” Before she could retaliate, he cut in, “But I’ll figure it out.”

“How?”

He took a minute to respond, and Holly guess he might have been searching his phone when he answered, “There’s a motel right off the next exit. We can stay there for the night and try to figure things out.”

Once they arrived at the motel and got their room, Alex took his usual direct approach and wanted to break in their frumpy mattress. Holly didn’t feel exactly comfortable with having sex on a bed that was probably home to spiders, but did it nonetheless. She was barely even paying attention to Alex during it surprisingly, because all she could think about was what he expected of her now. He was a twenty one year old former teacher with needs, and she was a seventeen year old girl that ran off with her teacher. They both had needs, but she started to wonder if he expected her to be quick and ready for sex all the time, now that they were on this journey together. She probably should’ve thought of these things because she ran off with him.

She sat up from under the covers of the bed, looking over at Alex who laid there while staring at the ceiling. “Are you okay?”

“I’m just thinking,” he sighed.

“Well, think of a plan while I’m in the shower. I’m not staying in this gross motel for another day.” She stood from the mattress and went over to her duffle bag, pulling out a fresh pair of sweats. She walked to the bathroom and shut the door with a sigh, not even caring of Alex’s wandering eyes as she had done this.

The warm water of the shower thankfully relaxed her and removed all of her negative thoughts. Yes, she was regretting taking his offer now that she realized they had no idea what they were doing, but she was happy just to be with him. Alex was the one to completely turn her life around, for better and for worse.

She threw on her clothes and started to wring out her hair. As she did this, she started to slowly open the bathroom door, only to hear Alex talking on the other side. She peeked her eyes through the crack and saw him running a hand through his fringe while he talked on the phone. She tore her eyes away and leaned close to the door, trying to listen through the small crack.

“I don’t know what I’m doing, Jack.” Alex sighed. “I’m way in over my head, and I really need someone’s help … Yeah, yeah, I know I should’ve thought of a plan before I did this … I’ll tell you everything when I get there, but for right now, we need a place to stay … I don’t even know for how long; I don’t even know what I’m doing! … Okay, okay … Really?! Dude, you’re awesome! I can’t wait to see you again!”

She quickly closed the door as he ended the phone call. So it wasn’t just her; he was kind of regretting this too? But, he now had a plan! She grinned big to herself. Finally, they weren’t going to be sitting ducks no longer! Now she just needed to find out who this―

A fist knocked softly against the bathroom door. “Holl?” Alex’s voice came out quietly as she stood up and opened the door.

“You rang?” She raised a brow with a smirk.

He grinned big. “I have a plan.”

You guys really wanted a sequel, and I'm happy to give you one :)
I don't know when the next update will be, because I have another story and I'm stressed with school work, but we'll see where this one takes us!
