Head On Collision

I've Been Holding Back Long Enough

Everything started to go down hill when All Time Low began playing live in the Vans Warped Tour. They had already done a few gigs here and there during their High School career, but things were finally getting serious. They were beyond pumped when they walked onto the stage for the very first time, happily greeted by dozens of new fans, screaming for their gorgeous frontman, Alex. His confidence instantly shot through the roof as all the females in the audience were begging for his attention. Just for a moment, they wanted to be seen and acknowledged by him. Natrually, Alex was used to this, seeing as he used to be with a different girl every night before he decided that he wanted to be with Jack. However, standing there with strangers throwing themselves at him.. It shifted something in Alex, and not for the better.

Jack watched him closely the entire set, wondering exactly what it was that was running through Alex's head. Most of the people in the crowd didn't even know the lyrics, nor could they catch the beat of their music, because they had only been attracted to this stage because of the pictures they'd seen of the band. It was just another case of a teenage crush. Yet, Alex seemed to enjoy it far more than he should. He was constantly flirting with the girls in between songs, or winking in their direction. Though Jack told himself it was all for show, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealously in his gut.

This was something that Jack would be willing to let go, had it not been for Alex's reaction when they waved goodbye to the crowd. Most of them drifted away, wanting to rush off to another set and rock out to a different band, but the few that lingered obviously had one thing in mind- Getting to Alex. The band was rushed off stage and over to their tent, downing bottles of water as a line formed to meet and take pictures with the band. Jack, like any supportive boyfriend would, clutched Alex's hand in his own, wanting to congratulate him on the wonderful show he just pulled off. But Alex seemed awkward and distant.

"What's the matter?" Jack frowned, holding Alex's hand tighter, in hopes that it would ring some sort of bell. "Are you disappointed that we didn't get that big of a crowd?"

"The crowed was awesome, bro. We're a new band, we're lucky to have that many already."

That was when Jack knew something was up. Alex hadn't called him 'bro' since they started dating, because it was awkward to think of your lover as a brother. He put his head down and nodded, trying once again for Alex's sake, to let the feeling go.

"Yo Alex, you're needed over here," Rian called from the other side of the tent. His smile was large. There were at least ten girls around him, giddy to meet Alex, cameras in hand. "Hurry up, dude!"

Alex gave Jack's hand a gentle squeeze, but quickly rushed off to meet his fans. Another let down. Couldn't he at least have given him a kiss, a pat on the back, a compliment? No, this was who Alex was. He craved attention. Thrived off of it.

Besides, Jack had enough fans of his own to deal with. It seemd that out of nowhere a large group of fans had crowded around him, as well. Most of them looked to be about sixteen or seventeen, and though he was trying to focus on their words and smiles, he could see from the corner of his eye that Alex was focusing on their bra size.

"Oh my gosh, I just heard about this band today," one girl gushed, flipping her blonde hair behind her back. "One of my friends told me she came across your music on the interent. I didn't think it would be that good, but seeing you guys live? You're freakin' amazing!"

"Well, thank you," Jack offered her a grin, though his heart wasn't in it. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."

"Your energy on stage is just wonderful, Jack," her fined joined in, clapping her hands with excitement to be so close to him. "If you get really famous, will you remember us?"

"You know what?" Jack laughed, knowing that this would be a day he would never forget, though it wasn't because of them. "I promise I'll never forget you guys."

They posed for pictures, quiet a few of them, and then they declared that they must be on their way, because one of their favorite bands were about to take the stage. Jack found himself almost feeling sad that they were leaving him behind. Out of the entire band and crew, these two strangers were the only one to feed him confidence through compliments. Maybe there was a reason he'd never be able to forget them.

"Ya know," the blonde, who he now knew to be Erica, took his arm and began writing her phone number down with a Sharpie, smiled at him. "I know most chicks are out to steal Alex's heart, but not me. I'd be trying to steal yours, Jack."

She began walking away, but turned her head once more to blow him a kiss, and rushed off with her friend. This was the only moment in the extent of his relationship with Alex that Jack wished he were still into girls, because maybe then, he would be feeling half as excited as his boyfriend was. Instead, Jack just found himself missing her company. She was a really cool chick.

As the minutes fell away, so did the fans. A few more people had come up to Jack, requesting pictures and his autograph, but most of them stayed where Alex was. His heart was thudding in his chest as the last girl finally bid him farewell, but not before planting a flirty kiss on his cheek. Alex's face turned a light shade of pink, and Jack watched him with jealousy as he watched her ass while she walked away.

"That. Was. Awesome," Alex breathed, coming to meet his band in the center of the tent. "Can you believe so many people already love us?"

"Well, some of them love us, some of them love our music, but most of them just want in your pants," Rian chuckled, taking a sip from his water bottle. "Sad, but true."

"Then I guess it's a good thing Gaskarth is gay," Zack laughed, poking his friend in the arm. "Otherwise, you'd be crawling with STD's by now!"

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up," Alex sighed, pushing his dark bangs from his face. "Alex Gaskarth, the ex-manwhore."

Rian rolled his eyes at his friend before turning to Zack, clearly getting caught up in conversation about how joyful the show had been. Jack was thankful. He needed a moment to reconnect with his boyfriend. He hadn't felt so insecure since Alex had chosen Lisa over him.

"So.. You were flirting a lot..."

"It's all part of the act, baby," Alex grinned, basking in his glory. "You're not like, jealous, are you?"

"Maybe," Jack shrugged, staring down at the ground once more. "I wouldn't be so jealous if you weren't so obviously checking them out."

"Oh, come on, Jack. You know I only have eyes for you, but.."

"But?"

"I don't know. Maybe we shouldn't be so public about our relationship for a while. I really don't mean to sound cocky, but I've been pretty good for the band, you know? I'm not saying I'm going to go sleep with everyone who throws themselves at me, but maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to play the single act for a while? Give them a reason to desire us."

Jack was stunned. Did those words really just fall out of Alex's mouth? In no way was that even fair. His blood ran hot. He was ready to knock his boyfriend in the face just for thinking such a thing, but his mind floated back to a time where he didn't have Alex at all. It wasn't so bad, keeping it a secret, and at least they'd have the time alone on the bus.. But still. It hurt, a lot.

"Shouldn't they want to be our fans because of our music, not because of the sex appeal?"

"Sure, but maybe what we need right now is the sex appeal to get them into our music. Once they become a fan of that, they'll really start to get to know us, and eventually they won't care at all if they stand a chance with us or not."

"So what you're saying is, you want to put our relationship on hold?"

"No, not necessarily," Alex sighed. He felt bad about his idea, but he still stood by the fact that it was good, and he was just trying to help his band take off. "I'm saying I still want to be with you, and I want us to keep being the way that we are, I just want to do it in private."

"Just like when you were scared to tell Zack and Ri.."

"Yeah," Alex grinned, kissing his cheek quickly. "Just like that."

For someone who knew Jack so well, Alex was certainly blind to the fact that he just broke his heart.
