Moving is never something too exciting. Of course new place always holds some hope of new life, but the process itself is just exhausting. Jack finally got enough money to move in his own place. It’s nothing too big or too expensive, but it is his own and he’s happy about it. You could consider the apartment being small, but it was everything Jack needed. One room with used bed (new bed – added to the list of things he should get), tiny bathroom, where everything seemed to be too close to other stuffs, and small kitchen together with living room area. He got some furniture from his parents. Actually most of them were his, from his old room – his desk and wardrobe, chair and also their old living room couch. Yes, he was happy, but tired. Few more boxes got pushed against the wall; he’ll deal with them later, but now – sleep. He did too much today and he really don’t care what time it is.

The sound of new apartment wasn’t pleasant, but that’s how it is with new places. It’s always hard to sleep at someone else’s or new place. The weird creaking, quiet steps behind the wall, shadows that make you feel weird, but later you get used to them. You get used to the steps behind the wall, voices, weird creaking and shadows that were actually caused by the trees behind the window.

Because of all these sounds Jack thought that he won’t be able to sleep no matter how exhausted he was, but…it didn’t take him more than fifteen minutes to be fast asleep. Dreams? No, he was too tired for that. Or he just didn’t remember them in the morning when he somehow managed to find bathroom, kicking his toe three times against his nightstand, some box and something in the bathroom. It hurt. It always hurts when you hit your toe.

He was fast to get ready in that morning, surprisingly not too tired, considering it wasn’t even nine in the morning. Thankfully he didn’t have any classes today, just work, but also only till noon, then he’ll get back here and start unpacking to get rid of these angry boxes, which are just waiting for another moment to attack his toes when Jack won’t be paying attention. Maybe he’ll even call Rian to help him, that way he can make this place look good faster.

His day was just as usual as he thought it will be. Nothing happened like always. Some kids came in around ten, he sold them two notebooks, then there was some old lady who asked about some book which Jack had never heard of and then there was some guy who bought a book about wild life or something and left. When it came close to his time to end, he was close to falling asleep, not because he was tired. No. Because he was bored to death. He will definitely call Rian, he need some company today.

On his way home he called Rian, got some food to put in his empty fridge and bought coffee. Not for himself, he’s not much of a fan of coffee. It was for Rian, everyone knows he’s obsessed with this stuff and, if you’re crazy enough to invite him over, you better have some coffee prepared for him.

His mind was filled with thoughts, mostly about his new place. What he would like to change, what he needs to buy or ask his parents. They’ll always help him, the problem is Jack don’t want their help that much. He wants to do as much as he can himself, that includes his new apartment and things he’ll change there. On his way to the elevator he somehow managed to open his mail box, carefully placing his grocery bags on the floor. Later that day he’ll ask himself – why’d he open that mail box? He just moved in, why would someone send him something? He hasn’t ordered anything either. Then why did he check on that mail box? Maybe that was some old routine he got while living with Rian. You see, Rian checked his mail box once in a month and then it was full with some stupid leaflets so Jack took up that job.

He quickly opened his mail box, not really expecting to find something there, but he still opened it and he really did find something. A little note, ripped out of some notebook. That’s how it looked. He unfolded it and there was only one sentence, but it was enough to make goose bumps appear all over his body.

Hey, new apartments are always creepy but you’ll soon get used to the weird noises around.
