The Ugly Truth

Eyes Glued.

I watched as the security guys came back looking irritated. Larry sighed next to me carelessly.

"Back to set!" He called. "Let them go."

"What? Why?" Security Guy Number One asked, seriously ticked.

Larry turned around, rolling his old eyes. "Because, Stan, I said so. They're just dumb teenagers."

The security guys moved. I quickly stuffed the number in my pocket, and started to walk back to the director's chair. Everyone got back in place.

"Action!" Larry called.

Fake ambulance sirens filled my ear. The bright lights were shown onto the dark set, making it seem like an actual crime scene outside.

I climbed into the chair next to him, acting natural.

He glanced at me, eyes tired. "Where were you?" He whispered.

"Peeing. Where were you?" I said softly.

He didn't say anything back, instead he glued his eyes to the set.

I sat, eyes also glued.

"So what?" Paul, Parker, asked to his fellow detective.

The detective, Joe shrugged. "It wasn't a murder, Parker. There was nothing even indicating that the knife wounds were self inflicted."

"What about the suicide note then?" Parker asked, pacing around.

Joe said: "Fake. The boyfriend said her handwriting was 'bubbly'. This isn't even close to bubbly. It's a mans writing. Just look at it!"

Parker: "So if this is a murder, then who would go through all of this work?"

Joe: "Someone with a bad history with her. Maybe an ex, or a old friend."

Parker: "Whoever the hell it is," He then turned dramatically, facing Joe with a stone cold face. "We're getting them."

"Annnnd scene!" Larry said. The sirens were shut off, and the lights of the warehouse flicked on. "Great job today, everyone. Be on set at 5 tomorrow!"

In the morning he meant.

"Larissa, did you see the kids that broke into the set?" Paul asked me, walking into the mansion.

The way the mansion was set up, was simple; Kitchen to the right, stone stair case there as soon as you walked in, and other rooms scattered around. Since we barely spent time in the mansions, I didn't decorate my room. I had a bed, and sometimes a TV.

Our traveling maid, Rachel came out of the laundry room. "Kids broke onto the set?" She inquired, starting to unpack some noodles from the cabinet.

"Yes," Paul said. "Damn teenagers."

I sat down on a bar stool, leaning on the island. "I didn't see shit." I thought about calling Jack the same time my stomach made a growl of hunger. "What's for dinner?" I put my head in my arms.

Rachel grinned at me, getting a pot out. "Pasta," she said. "It'll be done in 50 minutes."

Paul walked off, probably preparing to watch TV.

Rachel was the only one I really talked to anymore. She understood me, and could easily have a conversation with me.

"Rachel," I asked her as she poured hard bowtie noodles in the pot. "Would calling a guy on the night you met him be known as needy?"

"Not if you use a good pick up line." She laughed softly.

I dug the paper of my pocket, unfolding it. "You put the 'u' in beautiful," I read.

Her breathy laughs turned into chuckles. "How'd you meet him?"

I stayed silent, now a little nervous to tell her.

She looked at me, shocked and knowing. "You have a crush on the intruder?"

"Rachel," I hushed her. "He was at least my age,"

She rose an eyebrow, turning back to the pasta. "Your father is going to kill you."

"That is," I retorted. "If he figures it out."

She shook her head in disgust. "I'm not saying anything."

I smiled like an innocent child, rising up. I walked over to her by the stove, heat on my face. "May I use your celluar device?"

"Why mine?"

I said: "Paul doesn't trust me with a cell phone, what the hell will it look when there's a foreign ass number in my call history?"

She sighed, and went into her pockets. "10 minutes. Make it quick." She handed me her slim Droid.

I gave her a peck on the cheek, and ran upstairs. I dialed Jack's number, and held it against my ear.

"You called quickly." He picked up a half of a ring later.

"Who do you think it is?" I slipped into a spare room. It was empty and large. I sat at the window seat.

"Hopefully that cute girl I laid my eyes upon earlier tonight." He said.

"Was that girl at the set you happened to sneak into tonight?" I asked.

"Right you are," He chuckled. "Larissa Kelly, right?"

"You can call me Larissa. Jack, right?" I asked.

"Correct. So Larissa, I'll be at this one club tonight." He said.

"One club? I'll need some information. My dad wants to talk to your dad," I joked.

"Okay. My mom said she'd make some cookies. Are you allergic to nuts?"

"He means HIS nuts!" Someone called behind him.

Nice, I thought, rolling my eyes. "I prefer bananas to nuts, if you really want to know."

"The club's called Alex's House." He gave me an address. "Be there or be square."

He hung up, leaving me smiling.

I looked at the phone, and saw the phone call lasted me a whole 5 minutes. I shot back downstairs, and gave the phone to Rachel.

"How'd it go?" She asked me.

"Make some distraction. I'm leaving after dinner."
