The Anklebiters

Never Wanna Act My Age

The Anklebiters were shocked when they realized Ash was the opening act for such a big local band like BMTH. Let alone she was also performing at the 8x10 club, the famous 8x10 club on Cross street. The girls got there just in time to grab spots in the front and watch Ash’s killer performance. Taylor was practically screaming and dancing the whole time, which was something completely alien for the rest of the Anklebiters to see.

“Thank you, Baltimore!” The red and blacked haired beauty hollered to the almost packed club and left the stage.

The Anklebiters clapped and shrieked her name, which Ash caught and blew them a kiss. Hayley chuckled at the friend’s gesture and put a hand on Tay’s shoulder. “Want a drink? I’m heading to the bar to get a water.”

The brunette shook her head with a smile as Hayley left. She pushed through the numerous amounts of people, catching sweat but not minding. She’s been through worse at some of the places Ash has played.

She took a seat at one of the bar stools and hit the table. “Can I get a bottle of water over here?” She put two fingers up to wave the bar tender over.

“Be right there!” A voice replied. She noticed it was a tall man crouching down below the bar to unload some of the bottles. A red beanie was secured around his head, and Hayley could’ve sworn she knew that hat from somewhere.

He stood back up and grabbed a water from beside him, turning around to hand it to her. “That’ll be two bucks,” he answered gruffly.

She widened her eyes. “Alex?” He glanced up at the call of his name. “What are you doing here?”

“Hand me my two dollars and then I’ll talk,” he chuckled, and Hayley did as he asked. “I work here.” He explained as he put the cash in the register.

“Are you even old enough to serve alcohol?”

He laughed. “Not at all, but my father owns the club and the last thing he cares about is the rules.”

She furrowed her brow, taking a sip of her water. “So he isn’t afraid you’re going to sell booze to a minor?”

He shrugged. “Money is money, right?”

“Right,” she grinned. Maybe this Alex guy wasn’t all that bad.

He went back to attending a couple guys and handed them their drinks before going back to the register to collect their money. Hayley played with her fingers as she leaned across the bar so she wouldn’t have to speak up. “Listen, I’m sorry for how I acted this afternoon.”

He glanced at her eyes, confused. “You mean―?”

“You know, how I kind of―I guess you could call it―”

“Threatened me?” A part of his mouth tugged upwards.

She bit down on her lips. “Yeah, that. I’m not really like that all the time. I was just protecting my rep, you know? Jack and his buddies usually try to crush it, and I guess I just overreacted while thinking you were like them.”

He shrugged. “Doesn’t matter anymore; I guess I would’ve acted the same if I was in your situation.” He then looked to her, noticing the way she still was looking at anything but him. “You know, high school doesn’t last forever, Hayley. What are you gonna do after the Anklebiters?”

She viewed up, realizing she had never really thought about that before. As soon as the Anklebiters were formed, they had become her life, and she never really thought about anything but them. “Like, have you thought about colleges?” He continued.

She bit on her bottom lip. “Not really …”

“I know I’m just the new kid and you probably think of me as this annoying kid, but maybe you should start thinking about it.” He shot his hands up. “Not that I’m trying to dictate your life. Just the new kid, don’t forget.”

She left out a soft chuckle. “I’ll take that into―”

“GET AWAY FROM US!”

Hayley could recognize Taylor’s voice from a mile away. “Sorry, must go,” she said quickly to Alex before running off to the direction where she last left the Anklebiters. She pushed again through the sweaty bodies of numerous teens, the beat of Bring Me the Horizon’s opening song hurting her ears.

She finally got to the scene before her. She could just hear Taylor’s screaming at Jack and his crew over the music, also noticing the rest of the Anklebiters right behind her. “Aw, c’mon, Taylor! Why can’t we just go back to freshmen year?!” Jack complained with a smirk.

“LEAVE US, JACK!” The Anklebiter leader gritted her teeth.

Rian cackled. “As much as we’d like to, we also like BMTH too.”

Jenna approached Rian face-to-face, raising her fist. “You’re just asking for a beating, aren’t you?”

The shaved-head boy’s cheeks flushed red at her closeness, but he quickly recovered. “Do your worst, McDougall.”

Jack was still continuing with his rant: “Now you see, this is the exact reason why Tay should be given the name as the ‘Nice Anklebiter!’” He said, pointing to the brunette with widened brown eyes in the back.

Zack, who stayed in the back of the scene, sighed. “Jack, let’s just leave―”

Hayley managed to get close to the groups of teens, shoving Taylor and Jack back from each other. She stood in front of Taylor, protecting the Anklebiter leader. “Get out of here, Jack. You’re going to start something.”

“He already started something two years ago,” Taylor muttered under her breath.

“Excuse me, Hayles,” the skunk-haired boy pretended to be offended, “but this is our friend’s club, so we won’t leave.”

Hayley pushed Taylor back when the leader almost tried to go at him with her long nails. “Fine, but can you at least leave us alone? We’re all here to enjoy the music.”

He put his hands up in surrender. “Whatever, let’s go, guys.” He then looked in the back to Taylor’s form, waving to her. “Bye-bye, Taylor. See ya later, Anklebiters.”

“FUCK YOU, BARAKAT!” Taylor tried to get in front of Hayley again, but the girl wouldn’t budge.

“C’mon,” she said, motioning her back to their spots, “it’s not worth it.”

Notes

Haha, wait a minute, hold up. HOLD UP.
I started reading this story, thinking it was your other story I have yet to read with multiple installments... and then I just got to this last update, realizing I confused the stories the whole time AND THIS WAS NEVER FINISHED. UGH.
OMG. This story though...
This story is seriously amazing. Very John Tucker Must Die, but different. I've seen people take that plot and incorporate it with an ATL story before, but this story is definitely different with it; not as much of a direct influence, but kind of a similar thing going on, and able to stand alone on its own and be great. I'm really bummed that this was never continued; you're a really talented writer and I'm itching to know how this would have ended now. Especially considering I was thrown for a loop since I mixed it up with the other story, ugh! SO FRUSTRATING.
I hope maybe you still get on here, or get notifications, or are just able to see this comment... I see another person commented around a month ago, so you definitely still have readers!
That being said, I know that life can be hell with hecticness and just reality and so... that seemed to be catching up with you in your last author's note. I hope everything is okay with you. Even if this story isn't ever continued, I hope at the very least, you're still writing on your own time... you definitely have a knack for it.
And as Taylex_Jarkarth said... this story made me feel weird things as well. Maybe butterflies? Hayley's emotions definitely transpired through me as a reader; whatever she was feeling, I was feeling. You conveyed her as a very relatable character, and I commend you for that. I'm just bummed that things had to go down the way they did. :/ I'm just wondering how you planned to end it all, now. lol. I have faith that Alex still loves her, and if he knew the full truth (and Hayley plucks up the courage to tell him how she truly feels and how it changed for her), there may be chance for reconciliation. But idk. What she did was pretty big, so it's hard to tell and you honestly can't blame him for being angry. But I'm an optimist, lol.
How did I confuse the multiple installment stories. Ugh. I guess I would've had to reach the end of what you had eventually. XD But it just frustrates me that there isn't more to read!
But anyway, you are seriously an amazing writer, and I just wanted to let you know that. This story had me in with just the first chapter. Even though it's been a minute, I have faith that you could come back to it; I've seen other authors do so before. :) I will be here to read and leave feedback if you do, for sure.

I just wanted to find out if you're still gonna continue this story? I know that you're busy and it's inconsiderate of me to do this but I just really love this and it made me feel weird things (which are good by the way). I admire your writing a lot and I just hope you won't discontinue this, it's been years.

@AllTimeAnna
Thank you so much for the advice! :D

Also, will you be continuing Casual Affairs?
