Whispers in the Dark

Trigger warning: death threat still going on and mention of weight.

Alex

It was a few weeks later and Alex was 99% positive that something was wrong with Jack. He had started to have new bruises again but whenever Alex asked him if he was alright and how things with Matt were going he just did this extremely fake smile and said that everything was fine.

But Alex knew nothing was fine from the way Jack flinched away every time he moved too quickly or spoke too loudly. He knew it because Jack had lost weight and the shadows under his eyes were worse than ever before. He knew it from how Jack avoided any touches.
He decided to talk to Jack. After service one day, he looked at Jack and quietly asked him something.

“Jack, how are you? And don’t lie because I know things are not fine.”

“I am fine though,” Jack said shakily.

“Jack, I know you aren’t. You can trust me.”

“I…”

“Please,” Alex said softly.

Jack checked if anyone was nearby or if anyone could hear them.

“I’m going to say this once, no more. Matt is threatening to kill me and hurt you if I ever do anything like I used to do with you,” he whispered. He turned a concerning shade of green. Alex felt sick too. What was going on?

“What? Why don’t you go to the police?” Alex asked in an undertone.

“He told me he’d do the same if I did,” Jack said. There were tears in his eyes.

“He didn’t say anything about me telling the cops though, I suspect,” Alex said. He was feeling frisky and besides, he would do everything to help Jack.

“No, I don’t think that would be okay either,” Jack said, loosing even more colour from his face.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Alex said.

“No, please…”

“Shh, I’ll be careful,” Alex promised.

“You are amazing,” Jack whispered quieter than before after checking again for listeners.

“So are you. I’ll do everything to get you out of there,” Alex said.

“Thank you so much, I gotta go now,” Jack mumbled.

The younger boy left. Alex decided to go to the police this same evening. Jack was in real danger and he didn’t want to risk him being with that psychopath any longer. Sure, he felt a bit scared but he told himself that this fear was probably nothing compared to Jack’s. He would do this.

Oh god thank you! Um, you can check out my mibba here; I posted a few oneshots in the meanwhile and I've started a new story on there but I'm not posting it on here because it's Alex/John O'Callaghan and people on here don't seem to read anything else but Jalex. But yeah check it out if you want, I try to post a chapter every couple of days :)
