Alex

Alex woke up the next morning to the smell of bacon and eggs. He smiled. Jack was so amazing. Shortly after, he was sitting in his bed, a tray with bacon in front of him as well as bread and the eggs.

“Good morning honey,” Jack said with a lovely smile. “I made you breakfast.”

“Oh Jack, thanks so much. You are amazing,” Alex replied. He was still a bit sleepy.

He started to eat and many oohs and aahs escaped his mouth because damn, that was the best bacon and eggs he had ever eaten. He fed a bit to Jack too and they ended up laughing when a piece fell down from the fork.

A bit later, the doorbell rang.

“Who could that be?” Alex wondered. Jack shrugged. Alex got up, wrapped himself in his dressing gown and walked to the door. He opened it to find a very flustered Matt in a suit, holding a bouquet of roses. His jaw dropped.

“Jack I- hey damn that’s not Jack!” Matt started. Alex slowly recovered from his shock.

“Matt, what the fuck are you doing here? How do you even know where I live?” he whispered. He didn’t want to tell Jack about this visitor yet.

“I want to apologize to Jack for what I did and I talked to this old woman who lives close to get to you,” Matt said.

“The last time I saw you, you were hitting me and Jack until we were lying on the floor and bleeding,” Alex scoffed. “I don’t believe you.”

“I have changed! I promise!” Matt said. Alex didn’t believe him but he told himself that he could try. The second Matt would do a wrong movement, the door would be closed.

“Jack? It’s for you,” he called.

“Oh, for me? Who cou-“ Jack stopped mid-sentence as he came running and saw who it was. He stopped in his tracks.

“Matt?” he said quietly, now slowly approaching. “What is all this?” He pointed to the roses. “What… what are you doing here?”

“I miss you, Jacky.” Matt did perfect puppy eyes. “These are for you,” he said, holding out the roses.

“I- Thank you,” Jack said, taking the roses. Alex didn’t like how he seemed to accept Matt’s apology. He felt that something was wrong.

“Will you come back?” Matt asked. Puppy eyes again. That fucker.

“I… Can I have some time to think about it?” Jack asked. He sounded sad and nervous.

“Of course. Just come back or call me when you have decided,” Matt said with a nice smile.

Alex tried very hard not to slam the door but he kind of failed. Jack looked at him and smiled.

“Look how much he’s changed,” he said, smiling.

“I don’t quite believe him, Jack,” Alex said seriously.

“Why?”

“Well for starters, the last time we saw him he was beating the crap out of us and screaming at us. Also, he beat you for years, the bruises are only just fading from your body. Why would he suddenly change?” Alex said. He was a tad bit angry.

“I… I don’t know, I believe him,” Jack said. Alex groaned. Was Jack really this naïve?

“Jack, please sit down and think about it.” He led Jack to a chair and pressed him down. “I’ll take care of these,” Alex said, taking the roses. He went to the backyard, straight to his compost and dropped them.
He went back to Jack and gave him a kiss.

“Jack, please don’t believe him.”

“He looked so honest though,” Jack said.

“Well I don’t think he is honest,” Alex said softly.

“I can always try,” Jack said. Alex felt sick at the thought of Jack being back with Matt.

“Jack, don’t you like what we have now?” he asked desperately.

“I do, but we can’t keep it up forever anyways. You are a priest. You shouldn’t even kiss me and all that.”

“I’d do everything for you,” Alex insisted. “But I can’t let you go back to Matt,” he added sadly. He kissed Jack once more, then he got up to leave Jack to himself to think about it.
