May I? (Jack)
There were croissants and coffee, the table was perfectly laid, flowers were arranged and Jack was wearing the outfit Matt liked best on him: a dark-red, tight V-neck shirt and black skinny jeans. His hair was styled up and he was freshly shaved. It had to work. Matt couldn’t say anything but yes.
He would get up very soon. It was a bank holiday so they both had the day off. Jack tried to keep calm and not mess anything up so he busied himself with ironing a button-down. He rehearsed his text over and over. He knew it by heart; he could’ve recited everything in his sleep by now.
There was some noise from the stairs. Jack gripped the iron tighter and tried to breathe deeply. He needed to be calm to do this.
“Hey,” Matt said slowly.
“Hey honey,” Jack said sweetly.
“Nice breakfast,” Matt mumbled. He seemed to be in a good mood. Jack was relieved.
“I thought you’d like something nice today,” Jack replied softly. He gave Matt some coffee and sat down.
They started eating in silence. Matt realised what Jack was wearing after some time and Jack could almost feel how Matt undressed him with his eyes. It made him a bit uncomfortable but he didn't say anything.
“How are you today?” Jack asked after a bit.
“Fine. You?” Matt asked back. Jack was even more relieved. Matt seemed to be a lot happier than usually today.
“As well. I… I wanted to ask you something, honey,” he said. His heart began to beat faster and harder, his hands were sweaty and his breathing got a tad bit weird.
“What is it?” Matt wanted to know, looking up at him sharply.
“I’ve been asked to help at church. You know, readings, lighting, cleaning up,…” Jack said. He was starting to feel sick. “I wanted to ask you for your opinion on it.” His heart was beating painfully hard now. His mouth was completely dry, exactly the opposite of his hands, which were drenched.
There was a silence in which Matt chewed his croissant. Jack knew Matt liked to leave him hanging, waiting for a response. Finally, Mat wiped his mouth and said something.
“You? Helping at church? I want to see proof,” he said, slightly snorting through his nose.
“Sure. Here you go,” Jack said hastily as he pulled the letter from his pocket. Alex had sent an e-mail which he had printed out.
Matt studied the letter, his eyebrows furrowing. He looked more and more convinced.
“Sounds legit.” Jack breathed out. He hadn’t even noticed he had been holding his breath. “But you ain’t doing anything with that guy?” Matt added, looking at Jack suspiciously.
“No, no, I never would. I’m with you and he’s a man of God,” Jack said.
“Good. Then fucking go. But if I get word of you doing anything besides your lighting or whatever, you’re gonna pay for it.” Matt said threateningly. But Jack didn’t care, all he cared about was that he could help Alex.
He finished eating, put away his dishes and gave Matt a kiss. He was careful not to turn Matt on too much. He went up to the bedroom. He checked that nobody could see him and started wiggling his butt and whirling his arms while spinning around as a happy dance. He felt free and happy.
He quickly texted Alex that he could come.
