Is this what it feels like? (Alex)
Alex returned home after having given Jack the note and walking him home. He was joyful and couldn’t stop thinking about Jack. He was worried about him on the one hand but on the other, he just wanted to be with him all the time. He was strangely attracted to him.
Alex had never had a girlfriend or a boyfriend; he had been brought up in a strictly catholic environment. He hadn’t really planned on becoming a priest but after that one night, he had decided to follow his parent’s wishes to become a priest. He had studied Latin and Greek in high-school, he had gotten used to the endless bible recitations and working through them in college. He’d done everything to pay off that sinful thing he had done.
But now? He darkly recalled a scene from the seminary when Brother Marcus had talked about love. He had warned them of it, painted a dark picture. And he had described what love would feel like.
“It is an attraction, an attraction which is extremely hard to escape. Anyone in love will find themselves suffering from excessive thoughts about the person they are in love with, they will want to be with that person constantly and they will imagine the future with them. Be warned!”
Was he in love? He was only thinking about Jack excessively, he decided. But that was okay since he was worried about his relationship issues and his well-being.
He arrived home to find Sam meowing for food. He gave it to him without so much as a sigh. The cat seemed to sense his good mood since he climbed on Alex’s lap when Alex lay down to watch TV. At first, the man didn’t know what to do but then he started to pet Sam hesitantly. Soon, he got more familiar and comfortable and it was not long before Sam was purring loudly. It was a nice sound and the feeling to have made someone happy (aside from Jack) sent a warm glow through Alex.
There was no service planned for this evening so Alex decided to go running. He had taken it up during seminary because it made him able to think things through clearly and it had given him an excuse to leave the seminary boarding school.
After having managed to get Sam off him, trying not to wake the cat up, he got into his running gear: old, used shoes, shorts and a red t-shirt. He grabbed his iPod, set it to his Workout playlist and got going. He didn’t know the area so he would have to find a new running route. He was excited to get to know his surroundings better. He started with Jimmy Eat World’s ‘My Best Theory’ and set off energetically into the warm late summer afternoon.
