The mystery behind the tattoos

Chapter 6

* 3 days later *
Isabelle's P.O.V

Alex wrote something on a sheet of paper, passing it to me.
He had been sitting next to me these last few days in Spanish. Leaving Kaile to his seat by the window. She didn't seem to mind and I actually liked having Alex sit beside me, even if he was a bit distracting.
Izzybear! I'm hungry! :( The note read.
I laughed quietly and shook my head. The stomach on that boy. He could probably eat all of whatever was on a restaurant menu if he wanted to.
You're always hungry! I wrote back, folding it and throwing it back at him, hitting him on the side of the head.
"Hey!" he whisper yelled.
"What ?" I said innocently, giving him my 'I didn't do anything, you're just assuming things' look.
He slightly laughed, rolling his eyes. He wrote back something quickly and passed it back to me.

I'm getting you back for that Barakat.
oo, i'm so scared! I wrote back.
I folded it once again, sending it his way. I watched him open it, waiting for him to turn and face me and through my arms up in the air, moving them around dramatically, acting like I was terrified in the most absurd way possible.
"Ms. Barakat, Mr. Gaskarth! Stop goofing around, do that on your own time and pay attention!" my teacher scolded at us.
I slid back into my chair, feeling my cheeks go hot in embarrassment. I covered my face with my hair, trying to hide my blush. Meanwhile, Alex was trying to hold back his laughter.
"You idiot." I mouthed at him. He pretended to look offended, putting his hands up to his chest and silently gasping. Now I was the one trying to hold back laughter.
Luckily, The bell rang, signalling it was time for lunch. Everyone got up, including Alex, while I stayed put.
"Aren't you coming ?" Alex asked with a confused look.
"Nah, I'm not hungry." I stated simply. It was honestly the truth.
"This is the 3rd time in the last three days, are you sure ? I need my lunch buddy." he pouted.
I rolled my eyes, smiling, and pushed him towards the door. "Go, have lunch. I'm pretty sure Jack will be there. I'll be right here."
He threw his head back and dramatically sighed. "Fine."
He walked out and I took out my headphones, shoving them into my ears and turned on Green Day. Though, barley getting through the first verse, my teacher tapped on my desk.
"Sweetie, can we talk ?" Mrs. Young asked.
"Sure.." I said, confused on what was possibly so important to interrupt me enjoying my music.
She took a seat in Alex's desk beside me, a concerned looked filling her features. "Dear, I've noticed you haven't been going to lunch these last couple of days. Is everything alright ?"
She sounded concerned but I didn't know why, I was just her student. Why would it matter to her.
"Yeah, why ?"
"I just want to make sure. I don't want you to not be eating, hun." she said.
"I'm eating, Mrs. Young. You don't have to worry about that." I lied, giving her my best smile.
"Okay, just making sure." she said, smiling, and patting my shoulder.
--
35 minutes of listening to music and reading Peter Pan later, students started to pile into the classroom, Alex of course being the last one.
"Hey beautiful." he said, walking over to me with a cheeky smile, sending butterflies through my stomach. I felt a blush creep upon my cheeks.
"Hey Gaskbarf." I said in attempt to hide it. I've even doing that a lot lately.
"You get beautiful and I get Gaskbarf ? Rude." he said with a fake pout.
"Aw, Lex. I'm sorry. You're beautiful too." I said.
"Damn right I am! I'm fabulous!" he said, putting his hand on his hip and pretended to flip the hair he didn't have.
"You're so gay!" I said, laughing much too loudly causing few people to look in our direction.
"Only for Jack." he said with a wink, taking his seat. "Whatcha reading ?"
Before I could grab my precious copy of my favorite book, Alex already had it in his hands.
"Peter Pan, huh ?" He stated, more than questioned.
"Yeah.."
"I love this book! It's my favorite." He beamed.
"Really ?" I asked a bit shocked. No one I ever knew really liked the book as much as I did.
"Yeah me and my.." he shook his head slightly and his smile faded a little. "Never mind. Why do you like it ?"
"uh, my brother used to read it to me all the time.." I said, getting quieter with each word.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't me-"
"It's okay. You didn't know." I said, giving him an honest smile.
He smiled back and while that smile looked happy and true, his eyes told a different story. They were glossed over with tears threatening to fall over and when he saw I had noticed, he turned away quickly.

"Lex ?" I whispered but he acted like he didn't hear me. I sighed and decided to pay attention to the rest of the lesson. Maybe I could ask him about it later.
