The Rock Show

The Easy Chick

Jack had gone out late in the afternoon that day for a surprise meet and greet around the KIA stage. He didn’t particularly warn anyone he was going to, and he probably should’ve, but it was fun seeing the fans freak out at his presence. He loved the fans. They always made him feel wanted.

He walked close to his buddies, Pierce the Veil’s, tent, seeing them starting to clean up for the night. He waved to their merch guy and manager, and was even surprised to see one of his good friends there. “Mike!” He called, almost tackling the tattooed man the ground.

“It seems like this year’s Warped tradition is scaring people.” Mike chuckled and turned to his friend. “How are you, Barakat?”

“A bit tired. You guys got any beer?”

“A few Stellas.” Mike took one out of his tent’s cooler and threw it over. “Your merch and photographer girl actually brought those over this afternoon.”

“Victoria?” Jack took a gulp of the beer when Mike nodded. “She’s charitable human being.”

“Yeah,” Mike laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Is she … with Alex?”

The lanky boy rose one of his dark eyebrows. “No … why?”

“No reason. She’s pretty cute and shit.” Mike shrugged. “I just heard she was easy.”

Jack almost spit out his drink. “She’s not easy!”

“Oh, man, I’m―”

“If the reason why you’re asking is because you want to get in her pants, you should stop thinking that right about now. She’s not easy, and whoever told you better shut their mouth before I shut it for them.” When Jack saw Mike was going to start again, he added, “She’s not interested in ‘getting to know’ anyone at the moment anyways.”

“Whoa, okay.” Mike shot up his tattooed hands in defense. “I’ll back off of her. Promise.”

Jack took a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. “I just got carried away, I’m sorry.”

“Sounds like jealousy to me.” Mike chuckled. “I didn’t know you had hands on her.”

“I don’t―”

“Dude, stop lying to yourself.”

Jack looked down at the beer in his hands, eyebrows furrowing as a thought popped into his head. “Wait, who even told you Victoria was easy in the first place?”

“Sleeping with Sirens’ new website manager, I think.” He shrugged. “Some Lisa chick?”

Jack glanced up at his friend, wide eyed. “Lisa?” He asked sternly, and Mike nodded. This couldn’t be happening. He looked around, putting his bottle down on the table besides him and turning to walk away. “I’ll talk to you later.”

As everyone was getting ready to leave the venue for the night, most of the band was in the back of the bus playing the newest Assassin’s Creed. It was a hot one today, and nobody really wanted to be doing anything.

Victoria was with Alex in the main entertainment area, turning up the air conditioner to full blast. She groaned as she took a seat next to him while he flipped through channels on the small TV. “We should talk about it,” she muttered, putting a head on his shoulder.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” He grimaced as he set the remote down. Victoria spied the shakiness of his hand.

“You’re worried.” She sighed and sat back.

“I just don’t understand it.” He finally turned to her. “Buzznet pays her a lot for the millions of views she gets on her articles. Why would she take up this job too?”

Victoria shrugged, leaning in and resting her head on his arm. “If I knew I would tell you.”

“So what do we do?”

“We just need to lay low from her.” Victoria finally said after a beat of silence. “We’re not together, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”

She saw Alex wince at the sentence, causing her to say, “What?”

“Nothing …” He trailed off, leaving it silent again until the bus door slammed open.

They both looked over, seeing Jack storming into the living area. “GUYS! I HAVE NEWS!” He hollered at the top of his lungs.

“What news?” Victoria asked with a raised brow.

“LISA IS―”

“―On Warped with us,” Alex finished, looking down at his hands. “We know.”

Jack looked at them, shock covering his face. “AND YOU DIDN’T THINK TO TELL ME?!”

“We just found out today.” Victoria said before Alex could make him any angrier. “We were actually just trying to figure out what to do.”

Jack sat down on the table across from them as Alex explained, “Vic says we need to lie low. You know, don’t really talk or take shit from her.”

Jack scoffed. “No problem in doing that.” He then snapped his head back to her. “By the way, do you like Mike?”

“Excuse me?” She asked, caught off guard.

Alex then smiled, putting out a hand and waving away the subject. “Don’t worry. I took care of that.”

She looked back and forth from both boys. “What are you two? My parents?” They both remained silent, looking down at the ground. She sighed heavily, “You two are impossible.” She stood and walked out towards the bunks angrily.

Once Alex was sure she was far enough away, he turned to Jack. “Dude, why are you against Mike on this? I mean, we all know my reasons for it, but why you?”

Jack got choked up. He couldn’t tell Alex what he was feeling. Hell, he didn’t even know what he was feeling. “I just … I care about her well-being.”

Alex was smart, and he knew there was more behind it. Nonetheless, he still smiled at his friend and muttered, “Whatever.”
