Holding On To Keep This Strong

-Epilogue-

Jack was a junior in college now, living with his more than amazing boyfriend and majoring in music production, already starting his own label. As far as he was things life was perfect and couldn't get any better from there. Sure he wished that he and Alex had a bit more time together since Alex worked during the day and attended night classes since he was working on getting his masters degree - hopefully he'd be a professor in the next years. But they made time having a date night every Saturday and it kept each of them going.

The twenty year old made his way through the isles of Barnes and Noble looking for a book for his music theory class. He already had the book issued to him but if there was one thing he had learned from Alex it was the importance of annotation. It'd helped him pass his classes last semester and with finals coming up he hoped that those skills would help him again now.
He finally found the row he was looking for immediately spotting his book. He grabbed it and continued through out the store to look for a gift to send to Zack for his upcoming birthday. He traipsed from the aisle he was in and towards the section of the store where most games and electronics were.

A certain each of cards caught his eye, so he went over to the rack that they were on, hopeful to find a card for his best friend. He spun the rack around a few times looking for a card but not having much luck, they all seemed either too bland or too over the top. He sighed and began turning around before something else caught his eye, but this time he was pretty sure it wasn't a card. He turned back around to see his boyfriend on the other side of the spinning rack.

"Hey you." Alex greeted him with a smile.

"Hey yourself." Jack said returning the gesture. "What brings you to the book store, don't we have enough books at home?"

Alex blushed and looked away from the younger for a moment. "I wanted to get a few new reads...I promise I'll donate some of my old books to a library or something though."

"You know I was kidding right?"

"Yeah, but you were pretty mad about tripping over that stack of books in the middle of the night last week. It's probably time to part with some of them anyways."

Jack smiled once more and rolled his eyes. "You're cute. Anyways, you wanna go out to lunch? I'm free all afternoon."

"I know. You don't have classes on Fridays..." Alex said before pausing a grin resting on his face.

"What are you smiling at?" Jack asked, cocking a brow at his boyfriend.

"Well after Kyle met Austin he told me to hold onto anyone if I meet them in a bookstore and I think that's a good rule if he and Austin are still together...and I technically just met you here."

Jack only smiled and laced his fingers with Alex's. It almost made his heart swell to see Alex so stupidly happy about Kyle's theory and it somewhat relating to the both of them.

"Why don't I pay for this book and we can get out of here." Jack more of stated than asked, looking over at his boyfriend with smiling eyes.

"Sure."

Soon the couple were walking out of the store hand in hand, Jack chattering about his day until he abruptly stopped when he saw Kyle standing outside of the book store.

"What's Kyle doing here?" He asked, clearly confused. Alex was becoming notorious for surprising him by now, he was shocked he could still get surprised.

"Nothing." Alex smiled as he was clearly hiding something but Jack knew he wouldn't crack.
They walked further onto the sidewalk, full image finally coming into focus. Kyle was holding a small puppy with a pink collar around it's neck. The puppy was struggling, wriggling around in Kyle's arms seemingly getting tired out.

"Kyle!" Jack greeted the older man. "You got a puppy?"

"No, she's yours." Kyle smiled and handed the puppy over to Jack who accepted though he wasn't sure what to think.

"Alex?" Jack barked, asking for an explanation as to why he was holding a puppy.

"Well remember when you wanted to get a pet when we first started dating? We never talked about it afterwards and I thought why not now."

Jack smiled lightly, now looking down at the puppy and dropping Alex's hand to support her as she tried licking his face. He laughed at her attempts, wriggling in his arms too.

"Do you have a leash?" Jack asked looking up at Kyle.

"Yup, here you go." He said pulling a pink leash out of his back pocket and giving it to Jack.

The youngest of the three crouched down and set the puppy onto the ground holding onto her as he hooked the leash onto her collar. He frowned looking at the collar, there were words on it and they clearly were not her name. He turned the collar round to read the words finding a gold ring at the end of the phrase 'will you marry me'.

He looked up from his new pet to see Alex kneeling next to him, a goofy smile on his lips. "I love you more than the entire world. I love everything about you, Jack. We've been through so much together and I want to go through the rest of my life with you." Alex said, looking at the younger hopefully his sheer excitement and fear radiating off of him. "So, would you like to be my husband?" He finished, look more nervous than Jack ever recalled seeing him.

"Yes." Jack whispered after a long while a big smile tugging at his lips. "Yes..." He said louder this time, moving to kiss Alex on the lips, taking his time, gingerly rubbing a thumb against Alex's cheek. "Yes." He said once more as he pulled away from the elder. He looked up to find that they'd gathered a crowd of people, many of them smiling and a few starting to clap and shout 'congratulations' at them.

Maybe life with Alex wasn't always perfect but it always produced a lot of perfect moments and this just so happened to be one of them. And definitely not the last in their lives together.

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
