Holding On To Keep This Strong

Where the Lines Overlap

Jack plopped onto his bed, sighing in relief. His family was finally gone for the night which meant that so was Billy Joe's. Yeah he was still upset about not being able to speak to Alex longer than a couple minutes but he was glad to at least have that.
He rolled over to grab his cell phone off of his night stand for no real reason. He only had Zack to text seeing as how Rian went up to a cabin with his family for the week and Cassadee would be asleep by now. He opted on dialing Zack since he had nothing else to do.
"Why are you calling so late dick face?" Zack grumbled from the other line.
"Cause I can...do you think I can come over?"
"Now? You're crazy. Just wait until tomorrow to see me, besides you have to pick your brother up from the air port in the morning."
"Yeah just to drop him off at his friends place. He refuses to stay with us since Billy Joe is here."
"He doesn't like him either?"
"No, he probably has it worse for him than I do."
"That's news to me. I thought he was okay with him."
"Yeah well he isn't, so I don't even get to see my brother for most of break. And Dad won't even come out to see me either." Jack sighed in fustration an rolled onto his back. "I just wish they never split...things would be so much better."
"Jack you know that's not true. They would have been unhappy if they stayed together and that wouldn't have been good for anyone."
"Yeah, but what if they worked things out...what if they moved too soon when they went through with it? I just don't believe that people can just fall out if love the way my parents did."
"Yeah...but you have to trust their decision. Listen I'll come over now, see you in a bit."
"Thanks Zee, y'know I really appreciate you right?"
"Yeah, I know."
Jack could practically hear the rolling of the other teens eyes over the phone. But he'd really meant it, Zack meant more to him than the older teen could imagine.
-
Jack opened the back door of his house as quietly to sneak his best friend inside. Not that it'd really be an issue of they were caught, Zack came over unexpectedly all the time. Jacks mother had grown used to finding both boys coiled up on the couch of the living room fast asleep with the tv still on.
"Thanks for coming over." Jack whispered as he shut the door.
"You're not welcome." Zack grumbled, obviously tired and grumpy.
"Can we just watch a movie or something and go to sleep."
"Fuck you." Jack mumbled and led his friend into the living room.
"I heard that."
"Whatever, pick out a movie, it's your turn tonight."
Zack picked up the remote and plopped onto the couch, Jack following his lead. Within no time the pair had picked out a movie and fallen asleep despite the large bag of popcorn that sat between the pair that they had yet to finish eating.
-
"Zack, wake the fuck up." Jack muttered as he hit his friend with a pillow. He'd already woken up and gotten showered and dressed at least an hour ago.
"Leave me alone." Zack mumbled back and swatted limply at the other boy.
"We've gotta get my brother, come one asshole."
"Fine." Zack stretched his arms out and finally began to stand up, his eyes still closed.
"Come on, we need to go."
"Shut up, I'm coming. Lemme borrow a hoodie."
"Theres one on the hook by the front door."
Zack nodded, finally opening his eyes and following his friend who was walking off towards the front door.

"You're so grumpy this morning." Zack noted once the pair were in the car, making their way to the air port.
"Well if you had to deal with this shit you'd be grumpy too. And I can't even go see my fucking boyfriend because..." Jack didn't even finish his sentence and clenched his hands tighter around the steering wheel. "Hey, everything will be alright. Hey, why don't you go see your dad with your brother tonight? I can deal with a dinner alone and I can even cover for you."
"No, I can't do that."
"Yeah you can, look its really obvious that you're not happy with your mom and Billy Joe at the moment and your dad lives like what, fifteen minutes away. Just go with your brother."
"Would you come with me?"
"If you wanted, my parents hate Thanks Giving anyway so I don't think it'll be a problem." Jack smiled and nodded, Zack just made probably reason one million as to why he was the best best-friend in the world.
-
Jack shut the trunk of his car and made his way back to the drivers seat. His brother was finally back home from New Zealand - which he still wasn't entirely sure why his brother had chosen to move to- and he was pretty darn happy about it. Sure there were still issues to work out but he was just happy to see him.
"Hey...David?" Jack mumbled as they pulled up in front of the red brook apartment building his brother would be staying in for the rest of the week.
"Yeah?"
"How would you feel about me going over to Dad's place with you tonight?"
"That'd be awesome!...is Mom fine with it?"
"Probably not but I really don't want to spend another holiday with her and Billie Joe."
"Well I guess it's up to you. Just be by Dad's place at around five...is Zack coming with you?"
"Yeah, I'm coming." Zack chimed in from the backseat.
"Cool, I'll see you guys later then." David smiled and got out of the car, retrieving his suitcase before walking up to the front door of the building.
Jack smiled back at his brother before pulling off, maybe it did suck a little having to be around his mothers family and his step family the rest of the week but today was looking up.

Notes

Uh...yeah I actually just got lazy with this chapter, but in the next chapter you get to meet Jack's biological dad and I'm adding in drama and yes I'm just happy with this fic. Also I'm going to repost something I was writing with a friend on here and continue writing it solo since she bailed on me. So...theres that to look forward to too.

Okay I normally cringe at student/teacher fics, but cuz it's a 6 year age difference, I gave it a shot. This story is so great! The ending is beautiful. My eyes are watering. Not even kidding.
