Let the Floods Cross

n i n e

Alex cautiously opened the front door to the loft, slowly stepping inside in anticipation. He did not know what to expect when he finally made it home; he is merely praying for the usual. As much as he wanted to avoid this confrontation with her, he needed to have her with him. He needed to reconcile with her because if he didn’t, he would be empty. Alex is the type of person who needed taking care of and no one does it better than Liezel.

Instead of returning home to an empty house, he heard commotion going on in the kitchen and the smell of pasta sauce in the air. He managed a small smile as he entered the kitchen to check out the situation inside. On his way to the kitchen, he saw plates for two set up on the table. Sighing in relief, he dashed to the kitchen and wrapped both arms around the cooking woman.

Liezel giggled as she turned her head back to kiss him quickly on the lips. His chin rested on the crook of her neck as she stirred the pasta sauce in the pot with her spatula.

“Smells good.” He complimented.

“Figured that this is the next best thing after make up sex.”

Alex laughed happily and removed his arms from her waist. He did not expect this conflict to be over so quickly, but he did return home and she is cooking for him in hopes of reconciliation. After they both witness these things happen, they immediately arrive to the conclusion that this argument they had is over.

“Are you implying that we are going to make up and have sex later, Miss. Beckett?” Alex whispered in her ear.

In her giggle, Liezel shut the fire off the stove and picked up the pot with the pasta sauce. After winking at her boyfriend, she poured the sauce all over the big bowl with the pasta inside.

“This dinner is a peace offering aka the make up part of this whole ordeal.”

“Then we are going to have some mad, reconciling sex.” Alex said suggestively.

The tennis player sighed heavily at the thought.

“If I am to be completely honest, I look forward to the make up sex more than the actual make up part.” Liezel admitted.

Alex did not look surprised when she made that confession. He knows how much she enjoys intercourse and he never questions it. Instead, he smiled at her and watched her mix the sauce with the actual pasta. After a long day in the studio, he admits that he actually is looking forward to consuming the bowl of pasta.

“Liezel?”

“Hmm?”

Liezel picked up the big bowl of pasta and started walking toward the dining table; Alex immediately followed suit. She turned to him right after she placed the pasta down on the table. He placed an arm on her shoulder, pulling her closer to him.

“I love you.” He whispered.

She is very aware of the fact that this man is in love with her. He has been ever since they were in high school, and even though it has been established, she appreciated it every time he reminded her that he does. Right now, that is what she needed to hear from him. This reminder makes her feel like the luckiest woman in the world, and the fact that a love confession from him made her feel this way indicates that this man really is the one for her.

Liezel would never imagine herself with anyone else.

“I love you too.” She leaned in for a kiss to which he returned immediately.

They sat down on the dining table right after the kiss, both digging into the food anxiously. In the midst of their eating, Liezel decided to bring up the topic of their former conflict. They cannot avoid this conversation because it might hurt them later on if the problem arises again.

“Alex?”

“Mmm?”

Liezel waited until she swallowed her food to reply.

“I am so sorry for blowing you off last night.”

Alex did not wait until he swallowed his food; he went right to his response.

“And I am sorry for overreacting. It wasn’t supposed to happen. I honestly don’t know what came over me.” He swallowed his food by the time he finished his sentence.

She giggled at his attempt to talk and chew at the same time, since he sounds funny in his action.

“Oh, and I’m pretty sure Jack told you what happened this morning when I was over at his place.” Liezel started, unsure if she should bring up this particular topic right now.

Alex’s expression changed quickly, to one that she cannot exactly read or comprehend. He opened his mouth in protest and held a hand up for her to drop this topic.

“I don’t want to talk about that right now; just forget it ever happened okay? I will bring it up again if it is necessary.” Alex said quickly.

Sighing in relief, Liezel nodded. She is not in the mood to get into another argument with Alex or upset him again if she told him how she really felt about the topic of marriage. Good news for her is that Alex might feel the same way. He dismissed the topic quickly as if he wasn’t even sure he wanted to propose to her in the first place. That made her really happy, and extremely relieved.

“Alright, that sounds fair.” She replied.

The two resumed to eating and falling into their usual chatter. Things seem to be turning to normal, at least from everything that went on yesterday. Alex seems to be less aggressive and defensive since he got back. Liezel is in a better mood; less distracted and more involved in their conversation.

“So how is the murder case coming along?” Alex asked.

“It’s reaching to a dead end; the detectives are backed into a corner. They have no idea how to get to the bottom of this, but they know how to approach this situation.”

Alex nodded, letting this topic fade. It is a bit irrelevant to talk about it since neither of them is that interested in solving murder cases anyway. The job is for the detectives to do, they just happen to know of it.

The two continued eating in silence until something from the turned-on TV caught Liezel’s attention. She shot up from her seat on the dining room table and ran to the television set in the living room.

“…yes, Jack never should have been accused for the crime.” Loki Lockheart said.

Liezel noted that it is an interview on some news show with both Loki Lockheart and his favorite model, Dale Levine. They sat side by side on the red couch while the interviewer sat on the other couch beside theirs. All three held their designated microphones with enthusiastic smiles on their faces.

“Exactly, my boyfriend do not belong in jail, he belongs with me.” Dale winked at the interviewer as she said this.

Liezel groaned aloud at her response, already tired of this woman and the amount of attention she is getting. Dale is too shallow and superficial to be with Jack. The fact that they are dating disturbs her in some kind of way. It is just a feeling she cannot shake off no matter how hard she tried.

The model is adjusting her long, brown hair as the interviewer asked her next question.

“The Lockheart fashion show for the fall is coming up, how is the preparation going? And what can we expect from this show?”

“You can expect a lot of extraordinary things. As you all know, Zoe Jarova is headlining this autumn’s show. She is a stunning woman with a lot to show off to the world. With her, you can get a fresh perspective on the meaning of fall fashion.” Loki said.

Liezel almost wanted to laugh just to spite Dale. Of course, the model is not happy with Loki making the decision to let someone else other than her to headline fashion shows. Liezel remembered Dale promising to make Loki change his mind on the show headliner, but it seems like he did not make the change even for the demanding Dale. It made Liezel happy that this model finally did not get what she wanted.

“Yes, it is going to be amazing.” Dale chirped in with her bitch face on.

The tennis player scoffed, totally not buying it.

“You really don’t like her, do you?” Alex asked from behind her.

Liezel acknowledged Alex, who just left the dining table to join her in front of the TV.

“I don’t trust her.”

“You don’t like her because you see her as an airhead model. She is a bit spoiled, yes, and shallow, of course! But she is a very special person.” Alex said admittedly.

The raven-haired woman rolled her eyes.

“Come on, not you too; you are not buying her shit.”

“There’s nothing to buy; she is extraordinary.”

“Then why don’t you go date her?” Liezel muttered bitterly.

Alex wrapped an arm around her.

“Come on, Liezel, you know I only want to date you. Don’t be mad at Dale, give her a chance, babe.”

Liezel ignored her boyfriend to return her attention back to the interview going on in front of her.

“How are you two holding up after Raphael’s death?”

Loki and Dale shared a look, both smiling at each other before returning their attention to the woman interviewing them.

“We are getting better at coping with this tragedy.” Loki started.

“Yes, we have our loved ones and we have each other.” Dale wrapped an arm around Loki.

The blonde man grinned at Dale, nodding in agreement.

“This woman is so strong; she returned with confidence that life can get better. After going through absolute hell, she made it back on top and I am so proud of her for that. I learned so much from her as a person, and I have a feeling that the Lockheart Empire will all learn valuable things from her.” Loki complimented the model.

Liezel stared at the two suspiciously. Jack mentioned that the two slept together once, and the fact that it did happen worried her. She noticed their chemistry on screen, and how much they looked like the power couple of Dale and Raphael. Since Loki resembled his late brother greatly, the two together just reminded Liezel of the couple that was publicized everywhere a few years back. It did not give her a good vibe.

She does not trust Dale, especially not with Jack.

“Geez, Beckett, you really need to stop barging into my house before noon.” Jack moaned in complaint when he answered the door.

Liezel worried for Jack greatly and decided to come straight to his house when she woke up this morning. After watching that Dale interview last night, she made it a point to tell Jack of her uncertainties regarding his girlfriend. She did not know why Dale bothered her so much, but she did and for Jack’s sake, she needed to make things better.

“I have something important to tell you.”

“Unless you are going to give me an explicit run-through of your make up sex with Alex, I do not want to hear anything until I wake up after noon.” Jack mumbled as he eyed the entrance of his bedroom longingly.

Liezel rolled her eyes and pulled Jack to his bedroom. She sat him down on his bed before taking a seat next to him.

“It is crucial that I tell you this right now. I am not waiting for you to wake up, I have a whole day of tennis practice ahead of me.”

“Then tell me quickly before I fall asleep on you. Hold that thought, it might actually be too late.” Jack fell backwards onto his pillow.

The tennis player groaned in dismay and slapped his bare foot.

“I want to talk to you about Dale.”

Jack sighed loudly as soon as he heard his girlfriend’s name leave Liezel’s mouth. He did not understand why Dale is mistrusted by her; she did not do anything wrong. As far as he is concerned, the two never had a dispute over anything, at least when it comes to publically.

“Beckett…”

“Jack, she cheated on you before. She slept with Loki; you know that she can do it again. You know they work very closely together now.” Liezel warned.

The guitarist rolled his eyes.

“I know, he is her boss, of course they work together.”

“I mean, come on, think about it, Jack… Loki is her boss. So what if he demands sex from her? I doubt that she will turn him down, since she can use sex to win her a headlining spot.”

Jack shot up from his lying position.

“I appreciate you looking out for me; it’s very nice to know you care but I do not want to hear anymore of this.”

“Jack…”

The guitarist shook his head.

“Maybe you should just get going; I need to sleep.”

“Come on Jack, at least keep what I told you in mind.” Liezel pleaded.

Jack fell back onto his bed and pointed at the door.

“Fuck, I’ll just see you later then.” She gave up, getting up from his bed.

Waving at him, she walked out of his room.

Notes

Well, what do you think about Liezel looking out for Jack? Is she taking it too far or do you think it is justifiable?
